JW Net and Politics
by snare&racket inthis site was and remains instrumental in assisting people that want to leave the jw's.. there has been political discussion here for some time now, a good couple of years and it makes me feel a little uneasy.
i just opened up the site for the first time in some weeks, of the 10 posts being discussed, 4 were by the same poster, about politics, promoting their right wing beliefs.. this has been the trend for some time now, the same name behind a peppering of posts stirring the right v left of politics.. i remain forever grateful to the site and it's founders simon & angharad, i appreciate that simon shares some of these these political beliefs.
it would be a shame to see the site evolve from a place for jw freedom of thought and escape, to political squabbling, that the world is frankly tired of right now.. just to clarify, politics is my hobby, whilst my friends read the football scores, i'm reading polling data.

Any discussion of politics on the net will only descend into biased name calling insults.
If I may resort to a cliche "Never a truer word was spoken".
Irrespective of which side of the spectrum is being represented, a political discussion (particularly on the internet) is almost certain to degenerate into an exchange of "name calling insults", with left and the right being equally at fault. (Despite the "Our church don't do that sort of thing" type claims by both).

Genesis 1:16 and apologists- vegetation before the Sun?
by joey jojo ingen 1: 11 says: .
11 then god said, “let the earth sprout [j]vegetation, [k]plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit according to [l]their kind [m]with seed in them”; and it was so.
12 the earth produced [n]vegetation, [o]plants yielding seed according to [p]their kind, and trees bearing fruit [q]with seed in them, according to [r]their kind; and god saw that it was good.

I recall hearing a public talk back in 1973, during which it was claimed that the lack of light would not have been too much of a problem to green plants. As evidence, this talk cited some obscure scientist whom nobody had ever heard of. He claimed that he could get photosynthesis to take place without visible light by administering an energy “kick” from hydrogen (whatever that meant). That is what they said! -

There is nothing like the old topics that used to be posted here, and certainly nothing at all to compare with some of the old posters who used to post here.

I am here reminded of the saying "A little knowledge is dangerous".

The JW cult creates pessimistic personalities in all the PIMI congregants is my opinion
by goingthruthemotions ini am not saying all jw congregants are pessimistic, but i would go as far to say all pimi jw congregants are pessimistic.. why do i say this, my wife is my measuring stick.
she has barely an optimistic bone in her being.
she will only focus on the bad parts of anything.

Someone else here once described the JWs as “experts at depressing people”.
That is pretty much right on the mark.

Looking Back Were There Any “Apostates” In Your Congregation?
by minimus ini remember knowing some jws that expressed their own personal viewpoints regarding what a scripture meant that was at odds with society teachings.
in the 60 and 70’s, that was pretty much tolerated until the great purge in 1979 and 1980. as a matter of fact, it wasn’t unusual for witnesses to get together and discuss personal questions and viewpoints they might have.
it wasn’t unusual to send letters to the society asking what was considered the right or wrong view.

You could be correct in identifying those who left over doctrinal issues are more likely to be older persons.
In my case, it was doctrinal issues that initially drew me to the JWs ( in the golden age of Freddie Franz, it all appeared to make sense). Likewise, it was the realisation that they had no more idea of doctrine than anybody else that sent me packing!

There was a group of them in the congregation I was in during the late 1970s. Furthermore, they were quite blatant about it, too. One was a “pioneer” sister who let everybody know that she had received a vision from Jehovah, in which she was notified that “the preaching work was finished.” This group branded themselves as the “New Remnant”, and arrived at the next Memorial suitably attired in white robes. Needless to say, they made quite a sensation - so much so that JWs on the opposite side of the continent heard about it. (This occurred in what was Newmarket congregation, in the Australian state of Queensland).

Do old time present day active JW`s genuinely believe in overlapping generations ?
by smiddy3 infor the life of me i can not come to terms with old timers in the "truth" who could swallow this interpretation of scripture about an overlapping generation .. when jesus spoke about "this generation" .
are their any real bible students among younger ones any more ?.
here are 3 bible scriptures that confirm a generation is approximately 40- 50 years long give or take a few years .. 1. matt:1 :17 abraham born 2016-18 bc jesus born 2 bc approx.

Pioneers, Elder's Wives most self righteous. Etc.
by Overrated inas a jw did you have a pioneer sister/elder's wife who was the biggest busybody, self righteous, arrogant pus in the circuit?
who would look down on others and treat people like crap.. without giving to much away, i experienced one that knew everyone in circuit.
and if she or her husband saw or heard something they didn't like it was " you know what the bible says" regardless if it was in there or not.

The bible writers where on some sort of stuff when they wrote the bible, don't you think?
Bloody good stuff, too, I reckon it was!
