In this and with so many other matters, it is the "conscientious" JW who cops the worst of it - so much for "The Truth" being "The Best Way of Life".
Bloody hell - if this is meant to be the best way of life, I would hate to see the worst!
awake!

because all the evidence in fulfillment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years... therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers.

I remember that one like it was yesterday (I was 14 in 1969).
The bloody bastards!
three of my sisters - there are five of us - were baptized as witnesses.
one of them has gone from reading voraciously to only reading her textbooks and watchtower publications.
this does not seem to be unusual among witnesses.
I think the point Simon made was certainly true in the days of Frederick Franz, when Watchtower articles used such words as "revivify" (and we all had to consult the Oxford Dictionary to confirm that there was indeed such a word in the English vocabulary!).
When I first started attending Kingdom Hall meetings in the late 1960s, the JWs were fastidious about grammar and pronunciation - certainly in the congregation I was with, anyway. However, towards the end of my time with the JWs (in the late 1980s), there seemed to have developed an absolute aversion to using any words "bigger than marmite", with a clear preference for those of single syllables. Together with that, it was no longer a punishable offence to make a grammatical error in ones speech.
Since breaking with them in the mid-1990s, I have had very minimal contact with the JWs, and have read very little of their printed matter.
Vienne may well be right.
anyone following the derek chauvin trial?.
if you are actually following it, not just listening to the media, you will likely realize that there is a huge gap between what is going on in court and what is being reported in the media.. if the trial was fair, i think he should be acquitted.
there is plenty of reasonable doubt about the cause of death (his dealer doesn't want to testify because he could be guilty of 3rd degree murder for selling him a fatal amount of fentanyl) and even doubt over whether the officer even had his knee on the guys neck or did anything counter to what they were meant to do as per policy.. but is it fair?
Hi Anony mous,
With all due respect, I am not confusing anything. From being involved in first aid and rescue work over the last five decades, it has always been emphasised that you must act swiftly if the casualty is to have any chance of being revived.
Yes, there are exceptions - but you would be ill advised to attempt that for yourself!
born philippos, prince of denmark and greece in 1921, prince philip has died aged 99 years old (june 1921 - april 2021).. a very long, quite remarkable life lived.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaqxest27_e.
A war hero in his own right, Prince Philip was mentioned in dispatches whilst serving on board HMS Valiant during the Battle of Cape Matapan in WWII.

In general terms, the “Rule of Three” applies to the human body’s requirements for food, water and oxygen
- three weeks without food
- three days without water
- three minutes without oxygen
After three minutes without oxygen, brain cells start dying off - a process that is irreversible (and while that may sound humerous, that is all that is funny about it). Death is then likely within four to six minutes afterwards.
There have been some unusual cases in which people have survived at lot longer without oxygen, but that is exactly what they are - unusual.
The industry I work in requires regular retraining in CPR / Live Switchboard Rescue. Over the nearly 50 years that I have been engaged in this field of work, it has always been emphasised that seconds count. The longer you delay starting CPR, the likelihood of death increases exponentially.
this article on the latest gallup survey:.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/america-losing-religion-effects-long-093028404.html.
in 1937, 73% of americans would be affiliated with some organized religion; that number remained steady until 1999: (70%); the 21st century brought about a major shift: 50% in 2018; 47% in the latest survey.. children who grew up in households without organized religion are less likely to affiliate to some form of organized religion.. it's not only a generational difference; the growth in those who express no religious preference is also on the rise in generation x (those born between mid 1960's and early 1980's).
Humans are wired for religion
Sad to say, that would be correct.

hope link works.
That would be an easy way for them to avoid meeting attendance while still being counted as attending the meeting. What do you folks think of that?
Holding any sort of meetings on line definitely has its limitations! (I think that I can speak from some experience, having been working "remotely" for the last three weeks).
jehovah's witnesses in belgium have to pay €12k fine for shunning policy.
news.
you have probably heard of the trial going on in belgium about the shunning policy of jws.
I don’t recall much being made about 1984.
However, my perception might have been coloured by the fiasco of 1975 (of which much was made - and anyone who tries to say otherwise is an artist of the bull variety - either that or they haven’t a bloody clue what they are talking about!)
As to “favouring” 1944/1844 over 1914, they present a case that there might be a better case for 1844 - while acknowledging that all dates are total nonsense.

There is a misconception here that this Belgian court decision is dictating to people whom they must associate with.
Rather, it is upholding the right of individuals to choose for themselves whom they want to associate with or not; and reminding religion that it may not take that right away from the individual.
