Although from 10 years ago, still an excellent post - not that I expect things to have in any way changed in JW land! Regrettable, though, that this site no longer seems to feature posts like this one; neither in its depth, nor the topic covered.

Why So Many Young People Are Leaving The Watchtower
by Jeremy C ini have been giving a lot of thought to the young people who are leaving the watchtower organization in recent years.
last night, i was reading the thread posted by jwfacts a while back in which he provided some statistics and graphs showing the rapidly declining growth in the watchtower.
one factor that was discussed at length was the high number of young people who do not stay in the organization.

Joey,
You also get those who (for reasons known only to themselves) feel obligated to say "Black" just because they hears another person say "white".

"Modern Bibles" New World Translation - Part II
by Perry inbehold, the days come, saith the lord god, that i will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the lord .
amos 8: 11. .
most of us who have been raised as jehovahs witnesses since at least the 1960s were occasionally reminded of the scholarship of fred franz and his command of eight or more languages, including the biblical languages of hebrew and greek.

When I was presented with an NWT by my newly-converted JW grandmother, I was actually impressed with the thing.
It was after all a “bible” that was written in modern English. Back in 1964, the mainstream churches still used the King James Version, with its Archaic English. Translations in Modern English were around, but certainly not in common usage.
Here was a bible written in Modern English. Little did I know!

When I began the JW Indoctrination Process that they like to call the "Free Home Bible Study", I recall being assured that FW Franz was "the world's foremost scholar in Hebrew and Greek".
Everybody was happily oblivious to the fact that Crazy Fred was in reality just a College Dropout.

When was your last Kingdom Hall meeting?
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini stopped going to kingdom hall meetings about nine years ago.
i was fading for the longest time, refused to go out in field service, dropped out of the ministry school talks, no longer answered at the watchtower study, arrived at the meetings the last second, and left as soon as possible.
i couldn't take attending the meetings any longer.

I am happy to be able to say that my last Kingdom Hall meeting is so far in the past that I cannot recall when it was (other than somewhere in the first third of the year 1994).

JW Net and Politics
by snare&racket inthis site was and remains instrumental in assisting people that want to leave the jw's.. there has been political discussion here for some time now, a good couple of years and it makes me feel a little uneasy.
i just opened up the site for the first time in some weeks, of the 10 posts being discussed, 4 were by the same poster, about politics, promoting their right wing beliefs.. this has been the trend for some time now, the same name behind a peppering of posts stirring the right v left of politics.. i remain forever grateful to the site and it's founders simon & angharad, i appreciate that simon shares some of these these political beliefs.
it would be a shame to see the site evolve from a place for jw freedom of thought and escape, to political squabbling, that the world is frankly tired of right now.. just to clarify, politics is my hobby, whilst my friends read the football scores, i'm reading polling data.

but if my first experience of the Site had been of Political Bigotry, of any colour, I would not have stuck with it,
I am with you there.

Any discussion of politics on the net will only descend into biased name calling insults.
If I may resort to a cliche "Never a truer word was spoken".
Irrespective of which side of the spectrum is being represented, a political discussion (particularly on the internet) is almost certain to degenerate into an exchange of "name calling insults", with left and the right being equally at fault. (Despite the "Our church don't do that sort of thing" type claims by both).

I recall hearing a public talk back in 1973, during which it was claimed that the lack of light would not have been too much of a problem to green plants. As evidence, this talk cited some obscure scientist whom nobody had ever heard of. He claimed that he could get photosynthesis to take place without visible light by administering an energy “kick” from hydrogen (whatever that meant). That is what they said! -

There is nothing like the old topics that used to be posted here, and certainly nothing at all to compare with some of the old posters who used to post here.
