NWT. Question
by searcher inthe nwt is a trnslation of the bible.(jw).
the jw's believe that something is only true if there are two witnesses.. the question is... why do the jw's belive that the nwt is a 'true translation' when there is only one witness to it.

NWT Question
by glitter ina couple of years ago i got into an conversation with a pioneer about bible translations, i said that the nwt is an american translation (i didn't think this was such a controversial statement!
) and she jumped down my throat about it!
i said "but it's called the new world translation, and "new world" is what europeans used to call north america" and she said "no, it's the new-world translation - because it's for jehovah's witnesses and we will get through to the new system" and while i was trying to reason with her she also said it was a "new world-translation, it's a new translation for all the world".. has anybody else met somebody who thought this?

Yeah, ive never heard that line before, but i think Random task has got it right. While any translation is Gods word, NWT is famous for twisting key doctrinal passages. Numerous posts have been made regarding this. I think my favorite one is Phillipians 2:6 NWT--"Who, although he was existing in Gods form, gave no consideration to a SEIZURE, namely, that he should be equal with God."

WHY CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG???
Youdontknowhim, that was alot of research, and shows once again the WTS only quotes what is favorable to them. When i read your post, it reminded me of a discussion i had with my dad on predestination. He is still a JW, and in reply to a lengthy letter i sent him, he responded by sending me a back issue of the Watchtower, that had an article refuting the doctrine, mostly by quoting Catholic priests. Since when did the WTS start warming up to the Catholics? If there is any religion bashed the most by the WTS, its the Catholics. Not that i disagree with that in particular, but its the same pattern. Quoting from someone as if THAT INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS are the express AUTHORITY, then bashing them when it suits their agenda.
Ahhhhh life goes on.....

Excellent posts! Ive learned more on this one topic than i could have studying for a month! While reflecting on the subject at hand, i think the other reason the JW's make such an issue about the instrument of execution,(besides trying to distance themselves from everyone else) is the fact that the cross as we know it in the form of the letter "t" was reminiscant of the god tammuz. (at least thats what i was always told as a JW) and it would be unthinkable for God to allow his son to be killed on an object that represented a false god.
But what they fail to realize is HELLO!!! the ROMANS WERE PAGANS!!! They borrowed this form of execution from the pheonecians who were also pagans. Of course God is going to let wicked, pagan people kill his only son, have a murderer be released (barabus), have his garmets gambled over, be spit upon, then hung between two thieves, but stop the executioners from placing him on a upright pole that contains a cross piece.
Again, (in my opinion) im not saying it was definately a cross, although i think the evidence strongly favors it. Watermelon, i think the biggest question you need to ask yourself, is not what did he died on, but what he accomplished, and furthermore, why do some religious groups--no names mentioned...haha make such a big deal over it. What is thier motive? Is it a pure motive? A desire to get to the truth? or a political agenda?
Someone mentioned earlier in this post about Thomas telling Jesus "unless i see the print of the NAILS" indicating there was more than one nail used. (John 20:25) I dont think this was mentioned, but in Matt27:37 it says "Above his HEAD they placed the written charge againts him: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS" It would seem without a cross piece, the written plaque would be over his HANDS, like the WTS always picture.

NewWay, i agree with you on the device used. It really doesnt make any difference, we worship the Christ of the Cross(or stake, tree, whatever) not the Cross of Christ. And as someone posted earlier, all this bickering created by WTS in their attempt to seperate themselves from maintstream Christianity just divides.
But at the same time, those of us who were former JW's, cant keep ourselves from getting wrapped up in studying these things. Even though most of the time i dont even think about those things, i cant keep from looking at pictures and stereotypes in the old testament. Pomegranate, that was really cool. The story of Moses(who really was a picture of the comming christ) holding up his hands. Even Jesus himself told peter that one day he would "stretch out his hands" speaking of his death.

These are definately some good points, but as you pointed out, bringing them up to a JW, wont do any good, cuz theyll just tell you that was before God revealed the full truth or "new light". In fact, ive even been told before, that God didnt give the whole truth to them at once, because they couldnt handle it. The fact is, they still cant.

Hmmmmm paul says in my bible a woman is to remain silent in church. 1Cor. chapter 14. As for the 144,000 my bible also says they have not been defiled with women. So typical of political correctness and liberalism.

Good post. I think this question really gets some good thought flow. I personally believe in God. For one reason, because i've seen too many things happen in life that i just cant say was luck, or chance. Although i realize, the human mind seems to always question things like what crazydrinker said. Was it divine intervention, or was the gas guage sticking on his truck?
I was on my way home last winter from a job with my brother, and we had 8 hours to travel to get home. It was about 25 degrees that day, and the wind chill was colder than that. We were about 2 hours into the trip when his truck broke down. We were on a main highway, but miles from any town. Of course after twenty minutes, we ran out of heat, and i discovered the idler/tension pulley was completely broke off. We didnt have tools, and didnt know anyone in the area. I told my brother i wanted to say a prayer, at wich he agreed it couldnt hurt. (we were both raised JW's, but now i attend a local church, and he was never baptized, and had quit going for years) So i said a short prayer, left the matter in Gods hands, and covered up with a blanket. Within twenty minutes or so, a truck of the same make and model, pulled up in front of us. An elderly man walked up and asked what was wrong. I explained to him the problem, and he said he would be glad to help us, as he had fixed the same problem on his truck before, and had all his tools with him. He gave us a ride into the nearest town, we bought the part, and he fixed the problem.
I realize, it takes faith to believe this was an act of God. I couldve rationalized that it would have happened whether i had prayed or not. And maybe it would have. But i have lived on both sides of life. With God in my life, and without God in my life. And there is no way i ever want to go back to the former way of things, without him. No, im not saying that everything is peaches and cream now. I still have to wrangle with this flesh of mine and all the regular problems of life. But a GIANT weight has been lifted off of my shoulders, now that i realize i can do nothing of my self to earn salvation, and that i will never please him by some good act, or living a certain way. All i have to do is have faith in him, knowing that as Romans 8:28 says "ALL THINGS work together for GOOD to them that love God".....
I think many people see religion as just a way of "cleaning up" your life, and its no wonder. Look at the JW's, and countless of other religions that teach salvation is earned by how you live, how much good work, ect..... These things by themselves are fine and good, but dont produce saving faith. Instead, they really produce the opposite. Faith in yourself and what you do. And from what i see in scripture, its what Gods son did that matters. Everything we need to be in front of a Holy God was accomplished by his dear Son.
If i didnt believe in God, then what would i have to look forward too? Maybe a few short years on this planet filled with all kinds of problems, but NO HOPE for the future. Just like when Jesus asked the twelve apostles, will you go away also? Peter said, "Lord, to whom shall we go? you have the words of eternal life." (Jn 6:68)
Cheers

The WTS and WALT DISNEY
by Sangdigger init has recently occured to me after visiting one of americas largest family theme parks that there are similarities between the wts and disney.
we all know how the wts puts much emphasis on appearances.
eg...men must wear suits, ties, no beards, no hair touching the ear or collar, no pants for women, nothing that would appear "wordly" (for those of you not informed, "wordly" refers to anyone not a jw).

Farkel, thats really cool about your uncle. Tell him i really, really enjoyed his ride, and really wouldnt mind living in Utah. oh, and i love the snow too. haha. It just goes to show ya, brains and alot of book larnin aint always the key to success. Somehow i fit the first profile, but not the second one (success).
Thanks Freindly FellaAL for sharing the document. Like i said, appearances are everything when your concerned with the outside of the cup and not whats within.

After reading my last post, i realized that the first part didnt make any sense. Sorry. I had the beatles playing on the computer, and my wife was jabbering about something. What i meant to say, is i think its absurd to change the pledge to keep from offending certain people. How far will it go?
Is anyone offended at people speaking spanish when they go to Mexico? They shouldnt be, because thats the language Mexico was founded on as a Country. The same way this country was founded on Christian principles.
