That brings to mind an amusing experience at a District Assy. back in about 92 or so. Me and my brother were staying at the same motel as our dub parents, and were riding on the elevator with our coleman cooler loaded to the hilt with beer. The elevator was packed out with other jw's returning from the convention. But not to worry, the lid was on tight, and nobody suspected anything, untill my lame brothers hand slipped off the handle, and all the beer and ice went spilling all over the elevator. No one said a word, as i frantically tried picking up the beer and loose ice. Then the whole thing hit me, and i busted up laughing. When i looked around me, no one else was, wich of course made it even funnier, and i laughed all the more. My brother still brings that up once in a while.

After-meeting conversations
by Gopher into be able to properly "encourage one another, more so as you behold the end drawing near", we as jw's were instructed to do the following: .
(1) stay after the meeting for "upbuilding association", and .
(2) rather than talk about mundane things of life, discuss the finer points of the meeting just held.

My dad would drill me and my brother for the 15 minute ride home after nearly every meeting, asking us to tell what we "got out of the meeting" some useful point or topic. I remember his surprise when i told him a sore butt after one thursday night meeting. I then spent the next 5 minutes dodging his hand as he tried to get a hold of me while zig-zagging down the road.

Public opinion on the issue of Iraq???
by Celtic inwhen prime minister tony blair was 'summoned' to camp david a couple of day's ago, he looked succinctly uncomfortable when doing a press interview with president bush.
today, the prime minister faces the tuc conference, the main agenda covering the impending war on iraq.
british public opinion is very much for the action to not take place against iraq.

As someone mentioned earlier, man WILL DOMINATE MAN TO HIS INJURY. One simple bible truth thats been proved over and over. What's all the extreme FEAR for anyway? God is in total control. NOT ONE THING WILL COME TO PASS WITHOUT HIS APPROVAL.
Francois you sound worried that these madmen will take over the world. Yeah it would suck digging ditches for some dictator, or worse being killed by a fanatical regieme. But in the light of eternity, SO WHAT?
Check out these passages: Psalms 76:10- "Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain." Daniel 4:17 "to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the Kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men" then vs. 35 "And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to HIS WILL in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say to him What doest thou?" Romans 11:36 "For of him, and through him, and to him, are ALL THINGS"
Very different from WTS theology wich teaches satan is in control. No, im not a passivist, and not a liberal. We do have a responsibility to defend our families and country when seriously threatened or invaded as i said before. And for as many people that praises us for being their POLICEMAN, there are equally as many people who curse us to our very face, for destroying thier lives. Just depends where you live, and what your nationality is.
I have several relatives who are or where U.S. servicemen, and they will tell you we had no business in Korea, or Viet-nam. Especially the latter. What good did Viet-nam do? The country is completely communist now, and we lost 53,000 young men and women. Im sure 20 pages could be written explaining the diplomatic problems and red tape that caused the outcome, but the saddest part is it seems no lessons were learned. Communism being the reason in the past is just replaced by a face like saddam. We have so many troops in other countries right now, i doubt we could fend off an invasion should there be one. Yep, Saddam is a madman, and they'll be 5 more to take his place when he's gone. I say let each country solve its own problems. The U.N can go strait to hell as far as im concerned. (and probably will) nuff said.....

When is the U.S going to stop policing the World? I feel much the same way about this comming mess as i did about the last two or three. Common people like you and i are the ones that suffer and die. Look at Afghanistan. How many mud huts were destroyed, and innocent people killed, and they cant even confirm if Osama is even dead. Whats the worst case scenario if the U.S dont bomb Iraq? Saddam is left in charge, and he gets a nuclear weapon. Pakistan has them, and is considered a threat by harboring terroist, ect...And whats the guarantee that even if the U.S does go in, that Saddam will even be toppled? Or that any weapon of mass destruction is destroyed? Not to mention the fact that millions (or billions) of dollars will be spent rebuilding the country at the taxpayers expense. Oh sorry Mrs. abdul, we didnt mean to kill your husband, 5 kids and aunts and uncles. It was a misguided missle. But not to worry, heres enough money to rebuild your straw hut and pay for a grave digger so you can bury your family. ARRRRRRRRR
Protecting your country when invaded is one thing, and im all for it! But playing Big Brother to every country in the world is non-sense. And thats my two cents.(cuz thats all its worth.)

How can I help a friend with shunning?
by In_between_days ini have a jw friend who has just had a close family member df'd.
she is really close to this person, and is basically his best friend, and all she had to lean on.
she now has to shun him.

If my understanding of scripture in this matter is correct, shunning was admonished in several cases. John says "if anyone denies that christ has come in the flesh do not recieve him into your house, or wish him well in his endeveors."
I know there are other scriptures too, one that mentions not even eating with such a one, but its talking about greedy persons, idolators, fornicators and such. Again in 1 Cor. 5.
I dont know for what your friends friend was dfd for, but the few scriptures that mention shunning, are for believers who continue in their gross sin, and do not repent. To my knowledge though, There is never a case where someone is shunned or "put out" for associating with the shunned person.
Paul even talked about Hymineus (not sure of spelling) and another brother who departed from the faith, and he turned these two over to satan for the destruction of the flesh. (Corinthians-around chapt.14) Interesting that even chapter 5 of 1Cor. talks about the same thing, delivering these to satan for the destruction of the flesh, but that the SPIRIT may be saved.

How to get family to read COC?
by TTBoy ini just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself.

Hey TT Boy,
Your family deal sounds alot like mine. So far, im the only apostate (because my two evil siblings arent baptized) I've argued, reasoned, put down other religions who incorporate works for salvation hoping to draw paralell lines (at wich they gladly conceeded too) but they could not see the forest for the trees.
Of course everyone's family is different (outside the JW mentality--wich doesnt leave much of the individual left) but i say beat them at their own game. What is the main BRAG that ALL JW'S practice? Look at us, look how moral we are, we set such a christian example to the world! We show genuine(they love that word especially) love by sharing the message, ect......Of course they unfortunately forget to wash the inside of the cup as Jesus said. Anyway, my only means of communicating anything to them now that i claim to be a christian, is to live a christian life, love them even when they are not giving me any, swallow my pride when they leave town because im on my way to visit them, take them vegatables from my garden, invite them to visit, when i know they wont come over. Basically, act like everything is AOK.
I dont know what you've told them so far concerning what you've read, or what you believe, but take it slow. And i dont know where you are spiritually yourself, but if you have become a follower of christ, and believe in orthodox teachings, doooooont bring any deep doctrinal subjects up no matter how convinced or learned you may be, this usually relults in a slammed door in yer face. (believe me, i know)
One other suggestion, is letter writing. My dad and i communicated for a while writing letters. That way we could say what we wanted in a peaceful way, without voices being raised. The last time i talked on the phone with both of them( ma and pa) it ended up in a 5 hour long raving debate over the WTS and its teachings. Theres been more than once, i told myself just to forget the whole stupid thing, and i would never bring religion up to them again. You know, Live and let live? But i guarantee you i couldnt talk to them for 2 minutes, before the conversation turned to who was pioneering back home, or how many hours they were striving for this month, or who gave the latest talk or whatever. And i got tired of just nodding my head, and listening to it all as if interested. And theres been alot of things i've learned (non-doctrinal, non-confrontational things in the bible) that i wanted to share with them, but stayed silent, because i knew it would cause another confrontation, because eventually it would wind back around to the Org, and why i wasnt in it.
Well nuff said, welcome the board, and the best of wishes to you!!!!!!!!!

Dream of Going Back
by professor ini awoke from sleep about a half hour ago from a dream in which i returned to the witnesses.
i had become so upset from losing my family and friends that i decided to return and seek reinstatement even though secretly in my heart i did not believe (i was trying to fool the elders).. i awoke from the dream with illusions of actually following through with this idea.
it took me about 5 minutes to arrive at reality.
