I studied with the mormans, and hung out with alot of thier missionaries for a while before i came to the knowledge of true saving grace in Christ. Me and the wife even attended a few of thier church meetings. Man, were we shocked!!! No crosses, no preachers,(they call them speakers), everyone in a suit and tie, definately alot of physical similarities, but once i studied their doctrine, i realized the major differences.
Thats true on the ex-communication stuff. They are allowed to speak to family members. But those who for example use tobbacco, or coffee, are not allowed to enter the temple to get baptized for their dead ancestors. Oh, and you have to be up to date on all your tithing, of course, like my pastors mother (who remains a morman) you can just put it on your credit card, that way you can make it in easy installments, and still go in the temple pronto. Afterall, you cant keep your ancestors waiting too long.
I also met alot of mormans who are practicing masons. Joseph Smith himself was a mason. The ironic thing, is when the mob in Missouri stormed the jail where he and his brother were being kept, it is recorded that ole Joe gave the masonic distress signal, but that didnt keep the mob, some of whom were also masons, from filling him full of lead.
Yizuman, you said "Both Rutherford and Russell were freemasons before they founded the WT society"
Does this mean that they ceased being masons after that? It doesnt look like Russell did, with the masonic symbol on his grave.
One afterthought, a missionary once told me that many of the handshakes and secret things they do in the temple originated with freemasonry.

I know the Bible is True
by SwedishChef ini know the bible is true because.... * it is infallible.
there is not one contradiction with these pages.
humans are fallible; the bible is not.. * the word of god is the source of true wisdom.

Thanks for the post, Swedish Chef. From the replies that have followed, it looks like God hasn't opened alot of hearts yet. Just like its written, "God has given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear unto this day" (Rom 11:8) "I will have mercy on whom i will have mercy"(Rom 9:15)
Why do we always think that God owes us anything? If he decided to save just one person, he would still be just.

by Golden Girl indoes anyone remember how they used to view this?..like in a court of law..when they have to put their hand on a bible and swear to tell the truth?.

Then what did Fred Franz swear by when he was on trial in Scotland in the 1950's? I remember reading he took the WITNESS STAND (no pun intended) several times. Was that teaching in effect then?

Scriptural Basis of not believing in Hell
by Tirisilex ini am not a jehovah witness however i'm ver interested in jw doctrine.
i consider myself somewhat of a scholar.. i first attempted to get my questions answered by having jw's come to my home.
however, i was most disappointed because they were too busy trying to recruit me than trying to answer my questions.

Tirisilex,
Welcome aboard. As you can see, you will get more of the negative side of the JW's on this site, due to their stringent laws, cutting family, friends, ect.. off for not staying in line with them. But i think you can pick through the negativity, and get some real good info. If i can be of any assistance, let me know.

Huh? Watchtower necklace charms?!!
by DanTheMan in.
on page 105 of her book awakening of a jehovah's witness, diane wilson writes that she knew many witness women "who wore a charm of a watchtower on a necklace as an outward symbol of the organization, the source of their salvation".. i have never heard of this practice, and i find it difficult to believe.
can anyone verify that this indeed is true, that at one time it was common for jw women to wear watchtower charms?

dantheman,
My wifes aunt wears one around her neck. A gold necklace with a small emblem of a tower. The same one used on the cover of the WT magazines. OF course my ex-jw sister-n-law pointed out to her it was no different than a cross.
