Checking Up On Disfellowshipped Ones
by Boredposter inif my memory serves me right in the 80's there was an effort to call on those who were disfellowshipped.
elders would seek them out (or we're supposed to) to see if there was anything they could do to help them come back.
it seemed like a good idea at the time to me.

A woman without a voice
by SunnyOne026 inthis is my story in a nut-shell.
i hope some of you can relate.
if you can..i would love to hear from you.. i have been crushed and heartbroken more times than i can recount by a religion that claims to be based totally on love and mercy and most of that harm has come from the so called "shepherds" who or are supposed to lovingly take the stray lambs in their arms and lead them gently back to safety.

What Ding said too, although I have experienced some of that warped "love" from elders and R&F members

Highwood Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses v. Randy Wall

What, in my opinion, was a very telling comment was the response at about 3:06 when asked specifically, "If the rules were not followed (I imagine by elders handling the JC according to the secret elders manual), too bad! Is that the idea?"
The lawyer was forced to respond, "Yes."
That has been my own experience with elders. They have a set of rules, and just like typical law enforcement, they pick and choose which rules they follow, and if they, the elders, do not follow the rules and someone is emotionally, physically, or spiritually damaged TOO BAD!!

The Extremes of The Watchtower Bible and Tract Scoiety
by The_Seeker ini have been reading through the posts over the last few days and something occurred to me, an epiphany, if you will.
people don't leave the jw's, especially those raised in the religion, simply because it is easier for them to continue to believe a lie even when faced with the truth.
the ability to think critically is something that most jws lack, we all know this to be true, but i truly believe many of them are simply too lazy to try anything different.

I'm not talking about a physical laziness, but a laziness of intellect
I understand that. I was chastised by an elder who pretty well hates FedUp who stated, "Brother Fedup, you think WAY TOO MUCH about things!"
I replied, "Brother Half-Wit, YOU need to start thinking a little bit more!"

"Cultivate Self-Control"
by mrssauk inthis weeks watchtower study (september 2017) about self-control states: "clearly, people who lack self-control are causing problems for themselves and for others.
and the problem of lacking self-control is worsening.
self-discipline was studied in the 1940’s, but recent studies have shown that people have become much worse at exercising self-discipline.

Just got back from sitting through this goofiness...for the sake of still in family.
Just a few impressions/thoughts/comments.
Paragraph 17 made the claim that parents KNOW self-control doesn't come naturally to young ones. Then proceeds to make the veiled accusation that it is the parents fault if young ones do not easily show self-control. Yep, you got that right WT. Others actions are ALWAYS someone else fault.
Paragraph 13 praised David...again. Question was "What lessons can we learn from accounts concerning David?" Everyone spouted off about the accounts, and not one single word about what lessons could be learned. Sorry excuses for individuals were too afraid to state the FIRST lesson; that overseers should exercise self-control and avoid abusing their "authority"! And the WT conductor was one of the elders that hates FedUp so would not even make eye contact, let alone call on FedUp to answer THAT question!
Paragraph 6 made the assertion that the perfect example of self-control is Jehovah...because he has let so much time go by without answering the devils challenge because he "desires all to be saved." I reasoned with one of the R&F who still talk to me about that after the WT. I asked if the angels and Jesus have seen Gods' name sanctified or sovereignty vindicated? They replied, "YES." So I asked if the devil or the demons have any hope of salvation? They answered, "NO." Then I said that IF both those answers were true and factual then the referred to scripture about God desiring all to attain to repentance could only apply to humans? Answer, "YES." Then I asked, "Why if God wants all to attain to repentance and live does He allow some 135,604,800 people to be born each year (according to 2016 statistics) yet only draw some 264,535 to the JW's? (2017 yearbook baptisms for 2016) That leaves some 135,340,265 born each year and sentenced to death simply for being born and not baptized into the JW religion! That doesn't sound very loving, and seems to be a misuse of self-control. I could see the wheels turning, but no answer was forthcoming this time. I'll have to make a return visit after some other meeting to further interest.

The Unforgivable Sin (LOL)
by Cimarrona ini remember my mother teaching me that a conscience was like an alarm in my head that would warn me when i'm on the verge of doing something immoral.
if i ignored the beeping, the batteries would run out.
i'd lose my moral compass.

...take jw theology to its logical conclusion we would all kill ourselves and our children because you're never sure you're doing enough for
the Organization...I wonder how long it will be before some whacked out elder on a personal power trip engages in theocratic warfare (lying) tells the vongregation that the governing body wrote a letter and then asks the congregation to drink a "special" drink, or take a little pill, all in the name of demonstrating "loyalty" to the WTB&T$?

How Would You Console A Witness Who Has Lost A Loved One?
by minimus inlet’s say that you haven’t been around a kingdom hall in years and everyone knows you are not a “true believer “ anymore.
yet a tragedy strikes and you want to give a real heartfelt expression of your feelings— what would you say?
would you acknowledge the resurrection hope that the witnesses entertain or say something very different?.

People grieve when a friend or relative dies. Why would one have to say something different for a JW than for any other human? Express sympathy, share a memory, spend some time listening, be empathetic. This is not the time to "get even", no matter how much you may wish to.

Why I lost my religion
by Sour Grapes ini was a jw for over 50 years and recently just stopped cold turkey going to the meetings.
years of sitting at the meetings with the boredom, the gloom and doom, repetition of doctrine, the gloom and doom, the fake love, the gloom and doom, the end being so close, do more - do more, just got to be too much for me to stomach.
i stopped praying to god and no longer thank god for the food before i eat.

...when the JW's go to a meeting at the Kingdumb Hell they check their brains in at the door...
Reminds me of a story.
A woman wanted to prepare a totally different kind of meal so she asked the local butcher for suggestions. As he was from Papua New Guinea he suggested human brains. He said he had a supply and the cost would be $10.00 per pound for JW brains...$$19.75 per pound for JW elder brains...And $144,000.00 per pound for governing body brains. The woman asked why such an incredibly high cost for JW governing body brains. The butcher replied, "Do you know how hard it is to find JW governing body brains?"
Okay, I know a pretty distasteful story, but.....

Does this even make sense???
It does if you remember that two slave laborers at Warwick compound were asked to stay on and provide free labor for an extra week and ran out of money, but lo and behold when they got to the airport their flight was miraculously over-booked and they volunteered to stay for a later flight and got just enough cash from the airline. But meanwhile some poor schmuck's wife got killed because he had a flat tire on his vehicle and she was hit by another vehicle while he was changing it.
Just shows what is most important to the JW leadership...CASH over a life!
