Spiritual "Protection" - a Menace on Psychological Development

in my year of being on this forum, i have browsed many a disillusioned thread of ex-jehovah’s witnesses expressing similar symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder when detailing their awakening - my own story included.

Jehovah’s Witnesses have been groomed to possess inherently lazy thinking abilities.

So very true! I saw first hand evidence of that over on another site where the Dubbies spout off mindless drivel about everything they are told with never a thought about it. And anyone that expresses a different thought is pretty well dog-piled on. Even a very cautiously worded comment about being "confused" by the pretzel logic of the overlapping generation get private P.M.s galore. "Brother, you must not think so much! The governing body has it right. We just need to wait on Jehovha!"

The urban legends we heard as JWs!

how often have we heard some sort of sensationalist urban legend as jws?.

here is an example i was told as a kid:.

the experience of a sister who knocked on a door and was greeted by a big fierce looking man- intimidating and mean.

The one I heard was about a C.O. who in the early 1970's was on his first tour of duty in Kentucky (USA). He stopped in a barber shop in some out of the way Holler for a haircut when he very first arrived. When he was comfortably seated the barber's voice changed to something out of The Exorcist and the barber growled, "You killed our children at the flood, now we are going after your children!" The claim was that the barber did not know him, or that he was a JDub. So how could the barber make that comment except by the aid of demunz.

I have know some very high I.Q. people in my life up to this point, however with only one or two exceptions they have been some of the most stupid people when it comes to everyday, practical life smarts. Just sayin'.

Refusing to become an elder

i know someone who's family is very spiritual and says that her brother only pioneers and does not want to become an elder for various reasons, probably not wanting to deal with people's problems, and also the tremendous workload they put on them.

is this considered refusing advancement by god, or just choosing your own way?

he has not been "tapped" to become one, but he merely hasn't strived to become one..

I also had pretty much the same conversation as Stuck. I was told that if I, "were to reach out and be appointed it would free up time for the eldurrs to visit with the flock". I told them, "NO. If I were to be appointed I would be just as busy running around trying to look important just like you, and then I wouldn't have the time to spend visiting with the Ama-Arets of the congregation either! NO THANKS!"

The Privilege of Handling the Microphones

one of the most unbelievable privileges that a brother could have was being a microphone handler.

elders would discuss brothers for hours and see whether or not we would allow them to mow the lawn or handle a mike.

i always felt that these brothers were doing us a favor but if they didn't get a minimum of 10 hours in per month, they were dog crap and couldn't have any privileges.

There was a mid week meeting when no one showed up to run the sound. Guess who they came to?

I had the opportunity to work with sound systems for a number of decades. Think civic arena's and world famous entertainers. I was asked to run the sound at the local KH in almost the exact same situation. I refused. I may have to fill a seat for the sake of still in family for awhile, but "soon" that will change.

Oh shityeah! Even if you have it hanging and a set of balls these days though you cannot be "approved" for scrubbing the toilets. Unless you have the required hours in door knocking, and take regular classes that teach you how to whirl the scrub brush, and wear the approved safety gear. At least that is the way in the KH where I am. Thank god I refused to participate in their BS anymore.

The problem is, and will continue to be, a certain loud minority won’t allow themselves to be confused by such facts.
They will come up with ‘alternative’ facts, or go into mental lock-down when confronted by the actual facts. Probably no different than what the still-in, or “PIMI” JWs do when confronted with actual facts about their Org.

And we of course know that NO leftist ever acts like that...rigGHhht?
