Upbringing

i was brought up as a born-in(tm) here in the uk.

it wasn't until i was 50 that the scales fell from my eyes, i woke up, got da'd from the cult and my wife was advised to leave me by the elders whom i had served with on the boe.

one of which i know wanted to schtupf her.

No, I do not believe you are. They are getting more bold about speaking out of both sides of their mouths and being extremely opinionated. Think of Tight Pants Tony spouting off in his arrogant high pitched whiny voice about how if someone doesn't like what he is saying they can, "Take it up with my brother, Jesus!" and sadly the rank and file just slurp up whatever bile spews out of the mouths of the governing body and their helpers.

it is treating some of past issues that were once taught by the wts or have seen material that questions it.

Latest jw broadcast referring to allegations of protecting pedophiles

hi folks.. i put this in abuse as i thought it relevant.. a physically in mentally out friend that considers our friendship greater than religion told me that on the latest broadcast steven lett alluded to satans voice being behind people that claim the organisation protects pedophiles.. my friend then went on to say they must be in damage control.. he added, but that is correct, they are hiding their internal records.

is not that construed as protecting the accused?.

if i get the inclination i may post a snippet of what was actually said.. sadly my friend is trying to protect his family relationships and so goes along with the charade.. his situation weighs on me but, as many of you here know, it can be a difficult road to travel.. jtg.

it is a very long time since i was an elder and the elders textbooks have changed multiple times since then.

going back to when i was an elder, to the best of my knowledge the only way a spouse could divorce from his/her partner was porneia, if that person had sexual relations with a man, woman, child, or beast.

but it had to be proven and that's the dubious 2 witness rule.. in fact, if it was not proven and the innocent party divorced and married someone else, then they could be hauled up in front of a judicial committee and be charged with committing adultery and disfellowshipped!

Seems like "brazen conduct" is a made up, unbiblical disfellowshipping offense that can be a catch-all term when elders don't have two witnesses or a confession.

As my now deceased father used to say, "ANYONE can be disfellowshipped for ANYTHING that three elders can agree on."

In the governing bodies deluded minds sex only happens at night and if you spend the entire night at someone’s house.

And only between a man and woman. Not a word about two women, or two men!

Even more idiotic was the rule that a friend of mine was subjected to some years ago. His non-JW wife left him and filed for divorce. He was pretty well devastated. Before the divorce was finalized she realized she was better off with him than not and asked to reconcile. He agreed. The elders got wind of it and hauled him in the back room and told him that he MUST let the divorce proceed. They used Ezra 10:10-12 to prove their point . . .Then Ezʹra the priest rose and said to them: “You have acted unfaithfully by marrying foreign women, and so you have added to the guilt of Israel. 11 Now make confession to Jehovah the God of your forefathers and do his will. Separate yourselves from the peoples of the land and from these foreign wives.” 12 To this the whole congregation answered with a loud voice: “It is our duty to do exactly as you say." When he questioned their instructions they used Ezra 10:8 . . .and according to the decision of the princes and the elders, anyone who did not come within three days’ time would have all his goods confiscated, and he would be banished from the congregation."

No room for any kind of kindness or forgiveness there! A helluva lot of cherry-picking from the Bible. And now twenty years later he still carries a torch for her, and she is still single. One just has to appreciate how much the JW's cherish family! NOT!

refusing to go in service with someone

did you ever refuse to go in service with someone?

i did.... i went to the kh to meet for service and 3 brothers were there.

i told the brother taking the lead, that when he made up the car groups to take note i had a plan of my own -the 3 brothers could go together and i would do my own thing.

That is exactly what I did for the last several months of field circus before I just up and obviously quit. And Every. Single. Time. he would try to shoe-horn me into a group and then try to shame me into "following directions" when I refused. It's nice to be off that useless tread-mill!

The organization is not mandating masks or social distancing, leaving those decisions to each individual.

From personal conversations and observations of local JW's I can say that without any doubt that statement is a veiled lie. Perhaps they do not SAY they are mandated, but they will sure act like they are, and chastise anyone who does not fall in line with the unspoken rules. Just as they did with the COVID jabs.

1985 and baptism...I wish I had read this before today

i am posting a link as to being legally bound to jw rules at time of baptism.

i only did a quick skim, but what i gathered is interesting, and what it says about 1985 may be of use to some hoping to just fade and not be bothered.

in 1985, the questions were changed at baptism for legal purposes so they could have causation to defend themselves should you decide to sue for whatever reason.
