i support local and state and federal government’s power to safeguard the public.

i wonder is it getting to a point where we will be told we can’t go out anymore, can’t use your phone or computer anymore because of the viruses that we can get, etc.

are we prolonging this virus at all ?

Strange that these governors are now being praised when just a couple weeks ago when Trump talked about reopening the country by Easter, even though the President hadn't reached a final decision on exactly when the government's guidelines would be relaxed to get the economy back up and running, he was condamned for his optimism.

this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.

latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.

the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

I guess I am pretty dense. How, exactly, will testing be the answer? If I were to test negative today, be exposed to someone tomorrow who spreads it to me, then what? To my way of thinking testing would only genuinely help if EVERYONE got tested simultaneously, and then every single person with a positive test were placed under extremely strict house arrest with zero contact with the outside world, for however long it took to herd vaccinate every single person who tested negative. Somewhere, somehow, sometime, someone is going to get sick from this virus, and IMO that is just a fact of life.

And NO, I am NOT saying there is no concern or this is a hoax or any of that other garbage, so don't even go there!

My thoughts exactly. They are throwing the "sheep" under the bus again. It should come as no surprise to anyone. I do have doubts that JW's will wake up. If anything it seems they are getting even more radical about this being "the end" and circling the wagons.

Keeping everyone on the hook

i’ve always noticed that the local jw leaders like to give as little notice as possible for local meetings and expect you to drop everything and rearrange your life to fit their agenda in.

i’ve noticed this more during the pandemic.

we are not given the codes and time of memorial until a couple hours before meeting.

Thought I would share this bit of B.S. I received in an email forwarded to me just this morning.

Dear Friends,

We are reminded in Proverbs 22:3 "The shrewd one sees the danger and conceals himself, But the inexperienced keep right on going and suffer the consequences". Jehovah has helped us all to act wisely by means of our following the direction of His earthly organization. He also knows that there will be things that we need help in understanding more clearly so that we can make wise decision regarding how we will conduct ourselves during this health emergency. Jehovah has promised that we will have the answers we need to keep us safe during these times as we are reminded in James 1:5 "So if any one of you is lacking in wisdom, let him keep asking God, for he gives generously to all and without reproaching, and it will be given him".

Please carefully and prayerfully review the attached letter from our branch disaster relief committee. It will hopefully provide valuable guidance respecting the virus and how we can protect ourselves and our loved ones. Ultimately, this is from Jehovah and sent to you as an expression of his love for each and every one of you.

So there is a two page letter of Q and A instructions attached to the email. Pretty long and not sure if I should copy and paste it in this post. Reading it though gives the impression that everyone is evidently too stupid to know how to wash their hands, keep away from sick people, or stay away from healthy people if they are sick without the WT telling them the EXACT same information that has been readily available from "worldly" sources several weeks prior to the WT claiming it was God who sent the information to WT. I would imagine that the JW's will now be going on about how "wise, faithful, and discreet the slave is" after they finally start doing what they should have been doing all along.

Yes, I do believe governments are trampling on rights. I am intelligent enough to practice good hygiene, and stay away from sick people. While I support some government intervention for public safety (think speed limits, fire and police departments etc.) I also think that government over-reach with police enforced travel bans and stay in your home orders are too broad.

Does anyone really believe that once any government uses, and their citizens willingly accept, a level of control over their personal lives that encroaches on their freedoms as human beings that said government will readily relinquish that control?

And NO, I am not saying that their is not a serious virus, and NO, I am not saying that measures should not be taken to ensure personal and public safety. Just that personal responsibility needs to be respected by governments or be insisted upon by the citizens themselves.
