Hi Scully I'm surprised that news from this back-water actually reaches Ottawa, doesn't work that way when we gotta contact our MP's. Just want to update and clarify a few things.
It's only -25 here counting the windchill, it's been hovering aroud -15 most of the time. The amount of water flooded wasn't 40,000 gallons... it was 40,000,000 liters. People are allowed back now (no more free meals and TV). They've brought a bunch of dumpsters around and people are clearing out their basements. There are people from the city listing everything and insurance will be paid. Fortunately I've got nothing stored in the basement here, should have hung on to all those old Watchtowers and awakes, would have got paid for them.
My neighbours back yard had about a six" layer of water in it yesterday... now it's ice, solid. We're going to have a hockey game after supper tonite. He's planning on maintaining his rink now for the rest of the winter, every cloud has a silver lining.

WOW -45...BRRR... It's only -20 here. The cold worked out good for me though. We've had water mains bursting all over city (beautiful hamilton). We had a major main burst a half block from my place. It leaked over 40, 000 gallons of water. It's flooded the whole neighbourhood, basements backyards. I'm OK because my apartments on the second floor. The best part is I get to stay in a motel and eat at restaurants all at the cities expense until this is fixed. The room has a better TV than me, I hope it takes them a while longer

What IS Gods name anyway?
by NikL ini am sure this topic has been brought up many times here but i don't always have the oppertunity to read all the posts so i am going to raise it again.. i went to the meeting the other day with my wife and this came up in the talk.
the speaker saying how improtant it was to have the right bible to get the most out of bible reading.
the right bible being the nwt of course because it uses the divine name which we all know is jehovah...or yahweh.

Is his name really as important as the WTS would have everyone beleive? Supposedly faith in him is the most important part. What was his response to Moses... I am what I am, or something like that.
A rose by any other name...

Is the Bible Really the inspired word of God?
by Shirlgirl ini ask this question simply to see what others think....... when my daugther was 16, she came to me late one night after we had come from a meeting and asked me...."mom, what if the witnesses have it all wrong?
there are only 66 books that we use, what if we are worshipping the wrong idea?
" she then walked out of the room and went to bed...... god, did that open a can of worms.....because i actually started thinking on that.. however, i took it a step further....what if religion on whole had it all wrong....so i began to do research, and what i found was amazing to me..... 2timothy 3:16 began to 'ring' in my mind....."all scripture is inspired of god...." funny, didn't say just 66 books were inspired, but all scripture....then i began to break it down....what was scripture?

I'm of the opinion that a book witten by a supposedly perfect superior being, should be, easy to understand and not be filled with so many inconsistancies, half truths and falsehoods. The bible does not fit this category, therefore the bible is not the inspired word of god.

Newbie with Question RE: Male "Member"
by RubaDub inthis is my first week here and am glad i have found a place to comfortably share thoughts and questions.
when doing research in the society's publications, i often come across the term "male member.".
i often get confused with the term and would like to know how others here understand the term.. as i see it, there are at least three distinct uses for the term:.

It brings to mind a moderately funny story the happened to one of the guys in the building where I live. He belongs tio the local Army and navy club. This is basically just a drinking establishment for ex members of the military. He recently got thrown out of the club, for getting too drunk and having altercations with other people. He showed my friends and I the letter he received when he got kicked out, the reason it stated was for 'touching other members'.
My friends and I howled. I think' members' is one of those words you can use anyway you want. Ain't English wonderful.

Can the US police the whole world?
by JH ineven if the united states is the only superpower, can it really make war with iraq, and tackle north korea, and keep an eye on china, and other countries at the same time?
why does the us always have to take care of troubled spots all over the world by itself?
why can't japan and south korea take care of the north korean crisis?

Just going off on a tangent here.
has anyone seen the Peter Sellers movie "the mouse that roared'. it's about a fictional poor european country that found itself bankrupt.; They decided that the only way to help their economy was to lose a war to the US.
