isn't it easy to spot jw's?
not only by the way they dress, but also by the way they crowd up cars.. just about every time i see 4 or more people in a car, especially when driving slowly, i know they are jehovah witnesses.. what other traits do they alone have?
It's that smug look on their faces. You know the one... 'heh, we've got the tooth and we want to share it with you but your probably not going to listen to us and die while we live forever' look.
In reality it's not much different than the look you see on moonies, scientologists, hari krishna's..., but when you combine that smug look with a book bag; you know it's a dub.

The advice isn't about you. It's pretty clear who you are and you seem straightforward and honest. The post above yours however does look very very fishy to me. Anybody responding should do so with as much discretion as possible.
it's early on a saturday morning and i really couldn't sleep.
so, i'm just rambling on right now.
i got to thinking, are many of the divisions in christianity caused by the writings of the apostle paul?
Paul is the dominant writer in the Greek Scriptures and he definately was a fanatic. But the new testament as it exists aren't all the Christian writings that existed at the time it's compilation. Apparently there were many other gospels and letters around. The new testament as we know it was compiled at the council of Nicea in 325. The heads of the fledgling Christian church only chose those gospels and letters wich fitted their already preconceived notion of what Christianity should be. The church leaders then went on a massive rampage to destroy as many of these other 'heretical' wriitings as they could. If more of the early Jewish Christian writings had been included, would Paul's influence have been so great?

some have made vows when they were witnesses.for example:become a spiritual eunuch,refrain from alcoholic beverages,singleness,etc.. do these vows still count with god,if they were given during the deception of the society?

Vows to a God are made to be broken. The only vows that really count, in my opinion, are vows made to oneself.
imagine, if you will, that you are the only thing that exists.
imagine that you need no oxygen, because you had everything you need.
that means that, outside yourself, there is nothing to see, hear, feel or sense in any way.
I remember reading back in the '70's about a scientist (i think it was Pavlov) who built a deprivation chamber for his daughter. Basically denying her all of all senses, to find out what she would learn. I can't even remember what the eventual results or conclusions were, I'll try to look it up this afternoon. I would imagine that this would be a similar environment as Jehovah expeienced in the Christian Mythology. Interesting analagy SS.

i had lunch with a friend and she was sharing with me a story about sister "so and so" and brother "so and so" and what everyone else thought about their dating, and how long their "courtship" should be and still be considered ok - is it too long, too short, - would they get in trouble because he stopped by the house to say hi when the rest of her family was gone - was it ok that they stood out in the front yard - what elder so and so's wife said - yadda yadda yadda.............as her words blurred together all i could think was thank god i am free!!!!!!!!!!!!.
what stress it was to live my life under such a microscope.
it wasn't whether i did something wrong or not (just like these two individuals) - it was could i prove that i didn't do something wrong when i was accused by someone else.. free at last.........free at last.....thank god almight i'm free at last!!!.

okay, someone recently asked if those raised as jws felt they would have gone for it as adults.
my question is for those of you not raised as a jw, what convinced you that it really was "the truth"?
ive often wondered and come upon my own theories as to why people join this religion, but i find that when friends ask me what makes people join i cant really answer in a way that they understand.. jackie
We were raised as a fairly non-religious family. My parents tried taking us 4 kids to church when we were all young. When you have 4 hyperactive children in the 60's (before ritalin), it's not a good idea to take them to church.
Anyways the witnesses found their way into our life in the early 70's. Both my parents started studying, but my Mom stuck with it. I studied until '77., then buggered off.
The only real observation I have is that everyone in my family who followed 'the tooth' only did so after experiencing a major calamity in their life. It seems that when people are in this vulnerable position, they are most susceptable to the crap these vultures dish out.
I'd go into more detail, but there are things I've NEVER talked about to anyone, and things in the family that have to remain there.

remember how those meetings went on and on and on and then you get that brother who loves to turn his prayer into the "sermon on the podium".
yes delivering words as if they were being channeled through jehovah right to you!.
I remember those. We used to have a brother from the Ukraine (or was it Poland), doesn't matter, we couldn't understand a single word his said. Whenever he spoke to me I'd just kinda nod and smile, to be polite. His prayers were the longest going, couldn't understand a damn thing he said until amen.
PHHHEEEWWW!!! Amen he was finished.
