I can agree. I've steered clear lately because I'm embarassed by my governments stance on the whole thing. I'm ashamed to call myself a frisbeeterian these days.

Would it be better to have a halt to war topics ?
by Simon inunfortunately, it seems that people are unable or unwilling to debate or discuss the war and stay civil.
people are accused of all sorts of extremes such as "advocating child torture and rape" if you are against the war or "being a mass murderer and war criminal" if you support it.. some people seem to want to be able to post anything they want and it be accepted verbatim while other people are denied an opinion that doesn't agree with theirs.. i for one am sick of it and i suspect that other people are too.. this is supposed to be a site for jw related issues.
not exclusively but primarily.

Article in the Awake about us "Apostate Fighters"
by LuckyLucy intoday i was at work and a jw slipped a watchtower and awake in the mail slot.in the awake there is an article titled "is there an unforgivable sin?
" here is a paragraph that caught my eye.. some people who were once faithful christians have purposely drawn away from god, perhaps because of bitterness, pride, or greed, and are now "apostate fighters" against god's spirit.they willfully oppose what the spirit is clearly accomplishing.
have these induividuals committed the unforgiveable sin?

I love how they equate drawing away from the organization as drawing away from God. People who left the org for holding beliefs contrary to thier doctrine have been disfellowshipped. Later when 'new light' causes the watchtower to change thier doctrine; do they welcome these prophets back? No they turn thier backs on them and label them apostate. I love the added term 'fighter', it shows we've got spunk and we're getting to them.

1917 News
by Sargon in.
just to let everyone know.
the last survivor of the battle for vimy ridge died yesterday at the age of 103. there are now only 19 canadian veterans left from the first world war.. the only significance in pointing this out is how close at hand the end of the 1914 generation actually is.

JW's NOT Pacifists!
by pettygrudger inhttp://www.purelanguage.net/forums/showthread.php?s=113336d091f780544504bb7ab27cc48d&threadid=7473
there are news reports at the moment going around about a women basketball player that turned her back on the flag to protest the iraq war.
her comments to reporters were that she was: "raised as a jehovahs witness in richmond, calif., she said her mother, fayette elliott, does not acknowledge the flag and raised her children to believe they could choose not to as well.

Petty,
I think this is how they meant the quote:
During the Persian Gulf war in 1991, Detroit Tigers teammates Chet Lemon and Lou Whittaker taped over U.S. flags that the commissioner's office mandated on all batting helmets, citing their pacifist beliefs as Jehovah's Witnesses.
But this is 100% incorrect!
