I can remember the odd book study cancelled, but I don't ever remember a cancelled meeting. I remember going to one meeting after nearly 18" of snow and most of the rest of the others showed up. We were a fairly rural congregation, some people having to drive up to 15 miles.

The Dark Tower, a prison without bars
by freeman inthree days ago i was chit-chatting with my wife about the impending cold weather and snowstorm forecasted to hit our area when the conversation unexpectedly turned a bit negative.
she made the statement that they might cancel the meeting if the roads become too dangerous, i replied that they just might but really if she went to the meeting or not, the decision was up to her based on her best judgment.
her retort was to the effect of not to tell her what to do and that she would go to the meeting if she wanted to.

Demolishing an aspect of the JW's explanation for evil
by logansrun inpart of the watchtower's response to theodicy -- the problem of why an omniscient, all-loving god would allow evil -- is that adam and eve were given free will and chose to exercise their right to disobey god, hence bringing sin, evil and death into the world through their genes (of course the genome has been mapped and no evidence whatosever for that idea is established, but i digress).
let's look at this problem of evil a little more closely.
a common objection to the jws is "why didn't god just create adam and eve so that they would not sin and, hence, there would be no evil?

"You Should Be Loyal To The Organization Because It Taught You God's Name"
by minimus in...so said my mother when she asked me to read the latest watchtower on "the apostates".
she said that because i learned "jehovah" was god's name and because "the organization taught" me this, i should, out of loyalty stay in the organization.
i did not want to get into the "jehovah" name thing but i said in return that if she strongly felt this way, then she should have remained a catholic.
