Waiting,
but would have enjoyed the *snipped*
parts.
Several people have expressed an interest in seeing Kismet's snipped parts---or was that in seeing his parts snipped? I can't remember now

I didn't see an update on the board. This was forwarded to me by a friend who knows Kismet. He sounds like he's getting better. Glad to hear it, Kismet.
"(snip sexist greeeting).... Thanks for your concern. I am home now but really doped up. (snip )... It ends up it was all a result of a perforated ulcer, which caused inflamation to my kidneys...leading to a massive infection.there were some stones but inconsequential in nature. I was partially right about my appendix. IT was also engorged but it wasn't necesarr to remove it."
I hope no one is in the middle of dinner!

i have noticed we have several "active" jws on this board, and some of their comments really bother me.. when i was active, when the wtbts said "don't associate with apostates or worldly people" i didn't.
when they said "spend more time in the ministry" i went to school, held down a job.
and aux.
Wendy,
I said prior that the witnesses that I am acquainted with take their religion very seriously. Very few have gone to school past highschool, several of them work odd hours so they can pioneer full time, they sing kingdom songs at their get togethers, and the children do not join in extracurricular activities. It always struck me that their lives were organized to accomodate their religion's expectations.
I don't think you are the only one, but I do think Xandit is the only one of his kind. That's good for him, but I wish he wouldn't minimize the experiences of other people here.
How can a witness define things in his own terms? What happeend to the united in worship concept and being of one mind? If you are a witness don't you believe that jehovah is running the religion? How can a witness criticize their religion without criticizing jehovah?
I really don't think you are alone Wendy. Your life as witness sounds consistent with the others I have known--I am limited to a few congregations here and the magazines to go by. I have met a lot like you and never one like xandit, and if his type existed (and the majority as he says), I would have at least met one!
i've been looking for online bible study aids.
i've just joined up with crosswalk.
that's got lots to wade through, although it does have the goshen net, which is a fantastic resource.. are there any bible aids, study sites or discussion groups anyone can recommend?
Thanks RR(great picture!) & Xandit
Xandit, that website is somewhat overwhelming. I'm not sure where to start. Think of me as someone with a Knowledge book level education in the bible with a smattering of the Awake!.
Did you see where someone says that God's real name is Yaohoo?
**Update** Xandit, I've decided to start with A Synoptic Gospels Primer http://religion.rutgers.edu/nt/primer/ that looked like a good place to begin.

Thanks!
my kid brother, tom, was born to witness parents.
he was something of a surprise package and my parents were delighted.
my father said that tom was:.
About this group being a representative sample:
I have lurked at other sites like witnesses.net and witnesses online. On the the parenting forums as well as others there were threads on how to keep your children apart from worldly children. Also, there were experiences about not playing with worldly children as youths and not getting involved in school activities. The difference was that those on witnesses.net spoke of how glad they were that their parents didn't allow them to play with worldly children or get involved in sports.
If you compare the various online jehovahs witness' forums, ex jw and jw, the experiences are pretty consistent. The perception as to whether it was a positive or negative experience seems to be what differs here.
None of the jehovah's witnesses that I know personally allow their children to participate in school activities. The woman that my grandmother studies with does not even allow her children to play with non-jehovah's witnesses. The people I know take their religion very seriously and I believe that they are sincere in thinking that they are doing what is right. At least if they are sincere I can respect them, but to belong to a religion and go door to door making converts and then say that they "take it with a grain of salt" sounds very hypocritical to me.
I just wanted to edit this and add that, I think some people have compelling reasons for maintaining their status as one of jehovahs-witnesses even though they do not believe everything that is taught. I didn't intend to call those ones hypocrits.

from the jw-media site http://www.jw-media.org.
::::do you believe that you are the only ones who will be saved?.
many millions who have lived in centuries past and who were not jehovah's witnesses will come back in a resurrection and have an opportunity for life.
Why would God give you free choice and then punish you for it.
If I were a creator I would be most proud of the creation that grew to be independent and thought for itself, not constantly asking my opinion. I would think the majority of parents are proudest of their children when they are successful and independent, can behave without being threatened, can live together in harmony with those they differ with---I simply don't understand God.
(perhaps I should offer to be a deity for this new religion you people are starting---I'd like being worshipped)

DFshipped, thank you so much for your honesty. I have had several jehovah's witnesses say very much the same thing. That he has always had a favored group and that is what they consider themselves to be. His present favorite. There is biblical precedence.
When Jesus was on earth he told His followers that he was going to allow the wheat to grow together with the weeds. What do you think he meant by that?
the following is from a post at w.o.l.. identifying counterfiet christianity .
before becoming an interpreter i worked in a bank.
part of our training included how to identify counterfiet bills.
Have you read Soul Music, RHW? I just finished it.
It is said that whosoever the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad. In fact, whosoever the gods wish to destroy, they first hand the equivalent of a stick with a fizzing fuse and Acme Dynamite Company written on the side. It's more interesting, and doesn't take so long.

Wyrd Sisters has been my favorite to date.
In fact, no gods anywhere play chess. They prefer simple, vicious games, where you Do Not Achieve Transcendence but Go Straight to Oblivion; a key to the understanding of all religion is that a god's idea of amusement is Snakes and Ladders with greased rungs.

Amicus, Terry Pratchett has the same effect on me. I laugh out loud on public transit! He has a brilliant mind, doesn't he?
