LideIsNotOver: Even seeing "god" capitalized makes me shudder with distaste.
Then perhaps you should consider Satanism.
after my exit from the watchtower shunning cult, i have received tons of invitations from different churches.
but because i am aware of religious cults, i need recommendations of churches that are not cults at all.
after exiting the watchtower cult, i don't want to fall into another religious cults.

I recommend the Church of the Subgenius.
last night i had jw broadcasting on in the background while i was working, i like to keep up to date with their crap.
which is strange because when i actually was a jw i hated reading or watching their material.. anyway, on the streaming section, anthony morris comes on screen telling me that higher education is bad and "the better the university, the greater the danger".
i never would have believed it if i hadn't seen him say it myself.
BluesBrother9 minutes agoO k , suppose one is not a muscular building site type of person? Many people just would not fit this lifestyle . I would not. I suppose they are doomed to low level office clerk jobs or retail assistants???...
Exercise. Start eating lots of barley and lifting weights. Effeminate men will not inherit Jehovah's kingdom (1 Cor 6:9). The professions are for weak, effeminate men who try to overcompensate by becoming 'intellectual' and going to college. If Jehovah wanted us to think, he wouldn't have given us all those rules to follow. Thinking for yourself is what Satan wants. You wanna be Satan's slave? No? Then stop trying to be better than everyone and bulk up!
It must truly sadden Jehovah to see all these silly doctors, lawyers and scholars who would have made perfectly good plumbers. What a waste...
i'm rather gobsmacked to hear that an elder in my ex congregation has been appointed a prison chaplain (in the uk).
the reason for my disbelief, is that, this particular prison is for "schedule 1" offenders - covering sex crimes, child abuse/paedophilia and even downloading child pornography.
the reason for my reaction is that he has at least 9 "disciples" who have a bible study but i cannot help but think that when they are released, they will be part of a congregation, where they will have access to children and vulnerable people?
Now, now, you musn't hold anything against your brothers on the grounds of a sexual orientation they have no control over. I mean, it's not as if these pedosexuals ('pedophile' is a hate word) just woke up one day and thought to themselves: "An exclusive attraction to prepubescent children sounds like a happy way to live. I'll give it a try!"
The WB&TS accepts homosexuals, so why not pedosexuals? We are all sinners anyways and, the penalty for any sin being death, Jehovah evidently regards all sins as equally serious. I think this being down on pedosexuals pose is just your way of feeling superior to them so you don't have to deal with your own sins. Be humble before Jehovah and admit that you are not a lick better than these pedosexuals you so condemn. Judge not lest ye be judged.
As for the children? Leave it in Jehovah's able hands. He creates and manages an entire universe; don't you think he can handle a few sex offenders? If children were taught the importance of chastity, they wouldn't allow themselves to be seduced in the first place.

"We wont need doctors or lawyers after armageddon, but we WILL need carpenters and plumbers!!".
LOL! That is just golden...
But seriously, he's right. Worldly knowledge just makes people haughty and cynical. It's really a pity that the society relies so much on written material for its ministry. If JWs were just completely illiterate, they would never be in danger of learning anything. But even so, there are some practical steps any parent can take to reduce the chances of their child growing up to be an educated adult:
friday 31 march 2017. a 24-year old man is accused of having killed his father in steinkjer thursday afternoon.. the murder happened in broad daylight in a quiet residential area of steinkjer.
several people witnessed what took place.
his father died shortly after he was beaten with a blunt object.. according to the newspaper the deceased belonged to the steinkjer congregation of jehovah's witnesses, where he had been matron (an elder?).
You see what happens when children leave the Truth? Demons can just possess them at any time and use their bodies to slay helpless JWs. Thank Jehovah my mom was smart enough to install locks on her bedroom door when I went apostate in my teens.
at this point, i think we have a good idea of everyone's opinion of islam.
for the love of god, can we move on to something else!
.
For the love of God, can we move on to something else!
I agree. Islamophobia is so early 21st century. There are plenty of other groups out there to hate; all with their own plans for world conquest. What about the militant homosexuals? Or the communists? The Bilderburgs, anyone? Or how about some tried 'n true anti-semitism?
lately i have been studying some basic christology and jesus in the old testament and why first christians believed jesus was god in the flesh.
really interesting stuff.
i am not really sure if i fully understand it but i do now realize why pastors go to university and bible school for a number of years and also how their beliefs are not just based on a few verses that can be edited in the nwt.
You be the judge. I especially recommend his 'Apostates are mentally diseased' post.
Another pro-jw site is thirdwitness.com, its "exposé" of the myths of JW child molestation - accompanied by bizarrely malapropos images from classic movies - is well worth the read.
i dont know if this is becoming a national thing or even globally.
but im hearing more and more people i knew from my jw days have taken their kids out of school to home school them instead.
in my sisters case she's taken her 8yo and 6yo children out already and her 3yo wont ever start a school.
Rainbow Troll, you are being ridiculous.
GreatTeacher, you are being a pollyanna. And what's worse, you are using the fact that some schools work to sanction and legitimize a broken system that deserves to be - and should be - totally destroyed.
I live in the suburbs where the schools are very good and have sent my own child to school here.
That's wonderful for you and your family, but most people don't have that option.
However, I work in an urban school (in Baltimore) in an extraordinarily poor area. 85% of our students live in poverty.
First, a lot of learning happens in my school. If students misbehave by bullying or getting violent, they are suspended. If they break the law, then they are reported to the police, and the judicial system takes over. They get their FAPE (free and appropriate public education) behind bars.
That's how it should be, but unfortunately not every school has that zero tolerance policy towards violence (Oh, they all SAY they do. But in reality it's much like the Governing Body's zero tolerance policy towards child molestors).
I bristle at the insinuation that my students aren't learning. I just recently got the results from the District Science Assessment, which is given to every pupil in the district, "good" school or "bad," and they were very encouraging. My students are learning.
Some of those students require extra parenting, though. We provide free breakfast and lunch, I have to teach them about the importance of getting enough sleep, washing their hands, and treating others the way they would like to be treated. We also have a school nurse who provides some of the only medical care that these kids get.
Again, that's wonderful but understand that not everyone is lucky enough to go to schools like that. I didn't learn very much at all at my schools. I think some of teachers really tried, but they had no actual power over the students. Those of us who wanted to learn were all but overlooked by overworked teachers who were doing all they could just to get a sixth grader to read a single sentence without making a mistake. Eventually, I accepted that my education was up to me. I brought my own books to school and studied, trying to mentally block out the incessant chatter around me. When I got to high school I realized that if I just showed up for roll call in the morning, I could walk right off the campus and no one would try to stop me. Once I discovered that little trick, I spent most of my days studying in the public library or at a McDonalds and finally got some real learning done!
Yes, it is harder to teach where I teach. But, to feel that universal education is an unworthy goal frankly bristles. Having masses of uneducated people is a nightmare for democracy.
To be clear, I am not opposed to universal education; quite the contrary! What I am opposed to is a school system that allows those who run the schools to get away with whatever they want while children suffer. If school is mandatory, then that takes away all the power that a student might have to change things in his or her school. When I finally got fed up with the apathy, violence, and fear I had had to endure at one of my schools, I simply told the principal one day that I was finished and would not be attending in the future unless things changed. I was then hulled into a private meeting with no legal representation and threatened by the principal, who said school attendance was the law and that if I didn't go I would be put in juvenile detention and my mother would go to prison for child neglect. Being a naive 12 year old, utterly ignorant of my civil rights, I believed him and caved.
So, sure, play the public school system: move to a nice suburb to get a great education for your kids. It was my number one priority when buying my home. We have a long commute, but it is worth it to us.
But, there are amazing things happening in poverty-stricken schools. There are principals with extraordinary vision and leadership and dedicated teachers who want to work with the students who need them most. I'm sorry you've never had the opportunity to see that.
You don't need to be sorry, it isn't your fault. I wish to god folks would stop being sorry for the millions children who have to endure hell five days a week and instead help them by withdrawing their support and their sanction from these deplorable institutions that have the audacity to call themselves schools. I want more parents to start homeschooling their kids; I don't care what their reasons are. If enough kids are withdrawn from the public school system, that system will be faced with an ultimatum: reform itself or collapse into ruin.
i dont know if this is becoming a national thing or even globally.

GrreatTeacher: Jeezus! Where do you live that public schools are so awful? We live in a suburban area with excellent public schools!
The title to this thread gives you the clue North-West England
I don't live in NW England (though that is the topic of the OP) but I attended 6 public schools while growing up and I've spoken to plenty of survivors from all over, which has convinced me that compulsory public schooling is just a bad idea. True, some are better than others, but the potential for really bad things happening always exists because the system itself is designed to produce these outcomes.
If EVERYONE has to attend because parents are busy working then that means that even dangerous sociopaths can't be denied the right to a public education, as well as the right to ruin that experience for all the other kids. What will the principal do if Johny pulls a knife on Tom? Will he expel Johny? Sorry, but that boy has rights! Tom will just have to learn fucking jujitsu or maybe get himself a gun.
Besides this, I've come to accept that most of the present curricula have been deliberately designed to create dumb, compliant adults with no cultural literacy (many classics have actually been banned from most public schools) and just enough functional literacy to fill out forms and read their TV GUIDE. I know it sounds paranoid, but it's the only explanation that fits all the facts. If it were just a matter of apathy, the schools would be utterly indifferent towards a child, for example, taking an interest in higher mathematics; they wouldn't try to actively discourage him/her from learning, which is what they do in practice.
