Now That I've Joined, I wish That I Hadn't
by TR inany one here get that sinking feeling when you were an active jw?
i'm not talking about the point where we developed doubts about the borg, but just the shear weight of responsibility on your shoulders to uphold "god's kingdom" ala wts.. the topic of doing all you can was brought up frequently.
some would try to sooth by saying "as long as you're doing your best, jehovah will accept you.

Hello TR,
The stress of raising my kids as JWs with an unbelieving wife at the time was hell in itself. I can relate with you man. Be glad we are out of the borg and our kids are too. At least we can raise our kids knowing what hell it is turning our lives over to a religion like the WTBTS. Hopefully they will learn from us and not make the same mistake.

I am thankfull I am not raising my kids to adhere to any religious organization or religious belief system. My two daughters 15&13 are A students and my son is getting there. He will be starting football for 11 year olds in July. He will be the first in our family to play actual football on a team since my father who was a center in high school, he died before he was 50 still active in the WT.
I gave up so much for the WT and wish I had that time back. At least my kids will have the freedom to make their dicisions and explore the avenues that I was warned would lead me outside the good graces of God (the organization). I am not talking about immoral behavior or drug use etc, I am talking about getting involved with friends and activities that build character and knowledge that will help them in their lives to be well adjusted.

Charles,
One only has to read the 1913 Convention report to see Russell's involvment with Masonry.
After reading this, one has to ask themselves, did Russell bring his Masonic beliefs and his Masonic world view into the Watchtower?
Just look at the Masonic symbols used by Russell on the magazines and books printed in the early stages of the WTBTS.
I agree with you that Russell might have been trying to seduce some Masons. I wonder if there is actually any truth in a few of the books I read that the WT in the early stages was financed by Freemasonry and Zionism. The Bible Students I deal with will gladly tell you that Russell was a Zionist. Of course the BS do not care for me to be on their forums.
Just a few things Russell said from the 1913 Convention report.
"I say to you dear friends, We of the Free and Accepted Order of Masons of the Lord Jesus Christ's Commandery have the very highest standard...
One of the highest of this order of ours, a thirty-second degree spiritual Mason. I will call him St. Paul. St. Paul in one of his epistles boasted about the kinds of marks he bore...They were marks such as our Savior had, and such as all the high spiritual Masons must have...
Are you laying aside the works these things that belong to our order of Free and Accepted Masonry? It is the grandest Masonry of all."Russell refered to Christ as the great Mason and that the Lord's church is a secret order. He said that Jesus was the cheif Mason and that the world did not know him but did slay him. Russell refered to the Great Pyramid as an emblem the Masons use.
Yes, I agree that Russell was using terms as far as a Bible Masonry, but I think it was more than that when you read the evidence and see Russell's involvment.
Take care
Stan

Biblical, Christian "Morals"
by Norm inmany people seem to think that moral end ethics would be unknown if it werent for the bible.
the moral of the bible when examined thoroughly is to say the least, extremely relative.
looking at the hebrew scriptures it becomes clear that moral and law was pretty much a tribal and ethnic phenomenon.

Norm,
Logical put it in a nutshell. Your motives are clear to all.
As far as my reply to your original post, I addressed your motives. Your intent was to label all Christians that look to the Bible, as murdering racist morons.
Atheist can also fit the above category as murdering racist morons.

Russell was not a member of the Masons. There is no membership enrollment form signed by Russell. However, Russell's belief system was Masonic. A review of Russell's sermons show them to be very Masonic with a touch of Christianity. How did Charles Taze Russell have so much insight into Masonry and how was he privy to Masonic concepts held only for sages and adepts in Masonry?
Russell on one occasion stated that he wasn't a Mason but referred to the Masons as his "BROTHERS in Masonry." He also referred to the International Bible Student as "The highest order of Freemasonry.
What makes one an atheist? Do you have to become an official member of the "Atheist Society" to be an atheist? No. One is an atheist because of one's beliefs. Russell is considered by many as a Mason because his belief system was laced with Masonry.
Russell was a Mason in heart, mind and soul. Some people are more Jehovah's Witnesses than most JW's, and yet they are not baptized. They are not official members of the WT, but are Witnesses in heart, soul and mind.
What can be dangerous is our belief sysytem, not our membership.
