  Former Jehovah’s Witness jailed for child sex crimes

  a former jehovah’s witness who sexually assaulted three young boys says his homosexual inclinations were repressed by his religion and manifested in his crimes.. gavin andrew lamont, 46, was jailed for four years today for assaulting two vulnerable teenagers in the early to mid-90s and another boy about 20 years later.. lamont encouraged the teens to give him massages and suggested he needed help checking for testicular cancer.. district court judge linda petrusa said lamont, who knew he was homosexual from about age 13, had significant cognitive distortions around sex because of his religious beliefs.. .

  she said the victims, who were aged between 14 and 16, were vulnerable because of their youth and lack of sophistication.. judge petrusa sentenced lamont to four years behind bars for indecently dealing with a child and four counts of indecent assault.. lamont was kicked out of the mundaring congregation in 1997 after one of his victims complained to other members, but was reinstated after doing counselling with elders.. he was kicked out of the congregation for a second time in 2014 after another victim made a complaint.. lamont’s crimes came to the attention of police last year through the royal commission into institutional responses to child sexual abuse.. defence lawyer seamus rafferty described the case as complex, saying lamont struggled with his sexuality because his religion told him it was a sin.. he told the court the church was the essence of lamont’s being and said his client tried to repress his sexuality and ended up behaving in “naïve, unsophisticated and pathetic ways”.. lamont’s parents and sister are all living with complicated health issues and rely heavily on his help and care.. mr rafferty asked judge petrusa to give lamont a conditional suspended jail term, saying he was the glue that was holding his family together.. “this is a case for the exercise of mercy, its mercy towards them (his family) and nobody else,” he said.. judge petrusa accepted a prison term would be tough on lamont’s family but said an immediate jail term was the only appropriate punishment.. in a statement to the court, one of the victims said he felt that he was “forever stained” by lamont’s crime.. he said the abuse had made him self-conscious in his dealings with his own child.. lamont will be eligible for parole after spending two years behind bars.. .

  "Oh but these allegations are lies and mis information. Poor poor brother."

  More and more of these cases will come out and they will not be able to suggest that all of them are malicious lies. It will be interesting.

  please explain some of your past experiences of dealing with dealing with nosy brothers and sisters and how you dealt with them.

  also have you ever dealt with a brother or sister who brings up your past just as a new topic for a conversation?

  Nosey and interfering is what they do.

  When I was a teenager a young brother in our congregation was showing interest in me. He spent a lot of time at our house and one day an elder visited while this young man was at our place. When the young man left, the elder turned to me and said "if you marry him I will not come to the wedding!"

  What a horrible thing of this "Shepherd of the flock" to say. As if his opinion mattered.

  My failed attempts to help my brainwashed family

  first of all i just want to say a quick thank you to all of you who’s been listening to my story and my little rants and dilemmas lol.

  this website has helped me so much to not feel alone and to keep me from feeling like i’m going crazy.

  anyways, i’m defenitly going to try much harder from this point on to play the part until i move out after this summer.

  The Uniting Church has today joined the National Redress Scheme for victims of Institutional child sexual Abuse.

  the only state or territory yet to sign up is western australia .. and so far the jehovah`s witness religion has not joined the scheme.

  { and i will be very surprised if they ever do }.

  however if they don`t they will have to fight any case that is brought against them in a court of law and that in itself will be bad publicity for them .. so i am hoping they don`t join the redress scheme ..

  My mother who has read some of the transcripts from the ARC is still voicing the "much has been falsified and exaggerated" and "Jehovah is in control and he will fix it" mantra. Nothing will make any impact on her.

  I watched it this morning. My mum came over after I had and the conversation went on to the subject. It made me so cross to hear my mother say that it's all lies and stretched truth. So I asked her if she actually believes that all 1006 cases discussed by the ARC were all lies!

  Then comes the standard answer of the "head in the sand" "lalala I'm not listening" JW. Jehovah is in control and he will fix it. BS.

  warning, zeb is having a rant.. i have become so pissed off at jw i bump into who come out with "we have not seen you in ages" and with "we miss you.." my answer is the same "miss me?.

  i still live in the same house.".

  just recently one sister said she missed my comments and jokes.

  "Demons" Living In My Brothers Gym Equipment

  spoke to my younger brother dan yesterday (he da'd about 6 months ago).

  he was telling me that he got a visit from our older brother the day before.

  our older brother was raised a jw but never committed, lives a full-on "worldly" life - smokes, binge drinks, hangs out with non-jws, but he's been studying for about 6 years would you believe?.

  Hahahaha. My mother is very susceptible to demons. Just this month she got given a dress by a sister and started hearing whistling at night so she assumed the dress had com from a second hand shop and she put it in the backyard to test her theory. Whistling stopped so the dress was put in the garbage.

  Atheists - How Did You Become An Atheist After Waking Up?

  and right now i'm reading a lot on atheism in general (books written to answer creationists).. i'd be interested in knowing how you became an atheist after leaving the jws and how long did it take?

  was it instant or did your belief in a deity gradually decline?.

  Just reviewing my prayers and realising I had been talking to myself.

  I was told that God only answers prayers in line with his will so you can't ask to win the lotto for instance.

  I was very careful not to ask for "selfish" things but still nothing.

  Then you have ones tell you that God helped them find their keys or something equally trivial that most people can do without any divine intervention.

  I watched Serena Williams thank her God Jehovah when she won tennis but not help ones who really needed it.

  Only logical conclusion is that he is not there.

  What's it like these days for teenagers?

  i converted at age 22, and left 15 years later (1988) so i don't really know what its like to be in high school as a jw.

  for those of you who do know: do teenage jw's hang out with each other?

  I think it depends on who you are and where you are.

  Growing up in the 80s where I grew up, unless you were an elders child or well to do, you were pretty much irrelevant. Oh unless of course you were an attractive, single brother - then of course all the sisters and their mothers had you on their radar. Hahahaha.

  There were parties and socializing for the "in" crowd and it seems much the same today from what I can tell.

  i know of 1 that watched the video and never went back.. i think for some it was a the sum of the total or the "last straw" if you like.. karter..

  I was already out when I became aware of the ARC but after reading the transcripts and watching video of the brother's testimony and their bold faced lies - I knew I was done for good.
