The bouncing around and choosing scripture back and forth constantly was what convinced my son that "the truth" is not true. He worked that out before I did. He was 14.

Why doesn't the Watchtower Society never study the Bible cover to cover?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inin the 40 years as a jehovah's witness, i never read the bible cover to cover.
the three meetings a week were broken up with book studies, awake and watchtower magazines, and ministry& field service meetings, all written by the watchtower society.
never did we read any chapters from genesis to revelation and discuss the true meaning of what we just read.

ARC CSA - basic review of the main points
by HiddenPimo inis there a post where someone broke out the specific points of controversy laid out by g. jackson and the other depositions by branch members and elders?.
i know there are youtube vids and such but any printed material someone has compiled in electronic format?.
my dad watched the whole thing and said nothing stood out as controversy to him (he’s pi1/2mi).

I watched it and read the transcripts. Jackson tried not to appear citing the illness of his father. He was compelled to appear via video link or risk a jail term himself.
He then told the court that he has nothing to do with matters of doctrine but that he only works in the translation department.
When asked if he believes that the GB are gods chosen ones on Earth he said it would seem presumptuous to say that.
Terry O'Brien testified that JWs do not baptise children but only ones that are close to adulthood who are fully aware of what their decision means.
These are the things that immediately come to mind but there is certainly more eye brow raisers.
I was also quite annoyed to hear that the society, as it was called back then, paid for their no hope lawyer to get his degree as well as his assistant at a time when I was being told repeatedly from the platforms not to go to university but to leave school and pioneer.

Age when parents should stop bathing their children
by Wonderment inby what age should parents stop bathing and wiping their children's bottoms?
when are these actions a definitely no-no?.

speaking for myself I stopped wiping my children's bottoms just as soon as I could. I mean who really wants to be doing that for longer than they have to?
Of course you need to make sure they can take care of it properly themselves and for each child that is different.

The Watchtower Tract Society doesn't print Bibles?
by Nathan Natas inafter reading a few comments here, i thought it was time for me to get a copy of "the silver sword" for my own occasional research and occult practices.
so i thought i would see if jw.org would offer a way that i could purchase a printed copy (not digital) of the new world translation.
as i browsed, it occurred to me that i might also like to have a copy of the... what was it?

I know that the carts in this neck of the woods do not have copies of the bible on it.
In fact they don't even give away the magazines in the first instance. They hand out business cards with JW borg on it and tell ones to visit the site.
One sister was telling me how wonderful it was that a group of tourists all wanted a card from her and she ran out!
Hahahahaha
I wish we could have done witnessing like that. They now have 3 people per cart as a security/safety measure so each hour the cart stands there three hours of witnessing can be reported. When you bring this to their attention they do not bat an eyelid.

R movies
by longday inok i know from being in the cult for many years some will watch r movies and just do it on the down low at home.
i know of some who would walk out of a room or leave if someone played an r movie when they were visiting.
my ex partner who was an elder would walk out of a room if anyone played anything that was remotely questionable.

I think it is a very individual thing and left mostly to conscience.
They do have articles in the magazines that will give you the idea that a "true chrisitian" wants to be careful about watching things that would offend Jehovah such as spiritistic or demonic things or extreme violence or pornography.
Still you will have ones that will watch Harry Potter with no issue and others that will be scared of inviting demons into their home if they were to do so.
We recently had a sister tell my son that Dr Strange should not be watched because the bible warns against witches and magic and therefore we do not want to be entertained by such things.
Some will walk out of the cinema if something questionable comes up and others will stay put because they spent the money to go.

A little rant about prayer
by BourneIdentity inis god responsible for every good thing that happens in your life?
i ask this because a brother gave a talk several weeks ago and said that.
he said when anything positive happens, we must not assume it was by mere coincidence, but we have to have 100% confidence that jehovah cares for us and was involved.. however, people complain that jehovah doesn’t answer their prayers and are told you have to keep asking, you need to show him you really want it bad.

One of my pet peaves. I know of ones who pray about what to do about a faulty appliance and Jehovah gives them the idea to ring the manufacturer! Praise be!!
They pray about feeling too sick to go shopping and then Jehovah sends them a friend with groceries.
They believe Jehovah gave them all green lights on a trip home in peak hour and they didn't even have to pray about that.
It makes me so cross that they are arrogant enough to believe he will answer such prayers and not the prayer of others with actual problems - children experiencing abuse for example.

When the pedophile is welcomed back while fornicators aren't
by Aleph ini remember growing up in the truth in the 70s, then the 80s, i was quite young, full of hope, dreams and beliefs that it was a wonderful organization of jehovah's witnesses....soon we would discover the world is not sun shines and rainbows in the jws...for my brother, david, it was more or less the same, he was full of zeal pioneering.then one day, the truth exploded, the teacher much older than my bro, was unmasked, the circus began...elders came rushing in, things went swiftly, only one way, the abuser used the bible to justify sexual intercourse with my brother while he was only 14...and things lasted for many months....my brother left the truth, but the pedophile though disfellowshipped was welcomed back in less than 2 months !all the scandal was hidden, no one came back to bring any help to my brother, they simply ignore him like he was the one responsible of all, no comfort, no care, this is like this.i don't know why i m still in... somehow, i think i have enough, not because i have heard too much, but because i have seen with my own eyes, all the things that they do inside, the manipulation, the pressure... bible is pure, but this... this has nothing to do with the teaching of jesus.
they pretend they are pure and white, but really, they are just men, doing bad like anywhere else.
the worst part, they don't take care of the ones suffering, and they only makes things worse with their stupid policies..

GoneRogue - I had a friend who got DFd at least 3 times. She was reinstated in 3 months each time. 3 months was the minimum time to be DFd in her congregation. I guess it may depend on whether or not the body of elders like you.

Fading challenges
by Addison0998 inso the past few months since we’ve been married, we’ve hardly been going to the meetings.
and my mother says that an informer has been calling her to “tell on us” for not going to the meetings.
we’ve told some people that we have been attending meetings in a different area and hall since we are considering moving there.

When we first got married someone told our families that we were not attending but we were.
Move and don't have your publisher cards sent over to the new congregation. Don't share your address with anyone and live your life and be happy.
Don't give the busy body spies another thought. If you don't start going and they don't have your address it won't take long for them to forget all about keeping any eye out for you.
Then the only thing you will have to deal with are your parents. That is the price of fading.

Hard decision to make because two years is a long time to invest.
Try not to feel guilt about ending it. You studied this religion with an open mind and have discovered it is not the only true religion. Now you are free to continue your search if you want to and broaden your knowledge.
You can feel proud that you are not easily led and cannot be socially influenced to join a group purely because the people are love bombing you.

Welcome! Your story is familiar. Out of sight out of mind is the norm. Have you noticed how your true, unconditional friends for life are in your congregation and when you move house and congregations you get a whole new bunch of true, unconditional friends and never see the ones from the previous congregation? This is the case even if you only move to the neighboring congregation a few minutes away.
There are unfortunately no true, unconditional friends in this cult. "Friends" are ones that can be seen to be spiritual by their attendance at the meetings and out field service. When you are no longer seen, it is assumed you have fallen away and are no longer considered fit association.
At first this is hard to deal with and you experience depression and then anger. Eventually you will come to a place where you feel free and happy that they leave you alone and you can spend time pursuing friendships with people who like you just the way you are.
