I do not see the obtaining of a "permit" such as the one the municipality of Stratton is proposing to be an infringement on the right to freedom of speech/worship for JWs.

We teach our children not to talk to strangers. We caution wives and girlfriends and sisters to not allow unidentified persons into their homes. If a person representing themselves as an employee of the gas company or cable company or phone company, etc, comes to my door without ID and without my having requested a service call, they don't come into my home. Period.

Homeowners and tenants and other taxpaying citizens are entitled to maintain the security of their premises and themselves. The municipality to which they pay taxes (Caesar) is trying to implement a means whereby the citizens know who is coming to their doors. If a JW is rude to a householder, an ID tag with their name on it could be reported to the authorities, and possibly their permit could be suspended or they could be reported to the local congregation by the civil authorities. Currently, when a JW says something offensive to a householder, the householder has no recourse.

Nobody complains about having to obtain a drivers' licence in order to drive a car, and in some places you have to pay a fairly hefty fee, plus insurance in order to obtain that licence. This proposed permit is FREE, and all JWs have to do is apply for it.

They're making constitutional mountains out of molehills.

It's only persecution because they are making it into persecution. They are the ones filing suit against the municipality, not the other way around. Who's persecuting whom here?

it seems that i'm a dangerous man.. last time we went over to vist my dad in canada, my sister rang the local congregation to warn them that i was going!.

wow ... i feel like 'the jackal' or something ... international danger man!.

I'm sorry to hear that your sister has been up to no good. I don't think you're particularly dangerous, but then again I don't think I've crossed you lately (or ever!)

Conflicted has a point: the JWs are afraid, very very afraid, of us.

The dubs in Lethbridge have special reason to be afraid: they lost a huge number of their members in the early 80s, as Canada's Primo Apostate Numero Uno, Jim Penton, hails from Lethbridge. Having met him in person (he stayed at our home a few years ago when he had business in Ottawa), he's not really a scary fellow, quite the opposite. Still the dubs love to "demonize" anyone who has the balls to stand up to the Governing Body.

Stretchmarks....uggh....

hello all, i'm 17/m, and i lift weights a lot.

unfortunatey, i've been cursed with stretchmarks, and i've had them since before i started lifting (since about 13).

i've tried everything from cocoa butter to vitamin e oil, nothing makes them go away.

When stretchmarks first happen, they're like red scratches on your skin; eventually they will fade and become the same colour as your skin. Unfortunately, you'll always have them.

Rest assured, the people who care about you don't care about your stretch marks.

There are more "guidelines" than just the one cited. For example, a person who suffers a massive loss in their blood volume will have a haemoglobin level that registers as "normal" because there has been nothing administered to dilute the concentration of blood. Also, if a patient receives intravenous fluids, their haemoglobin concentration will fall because the extra fluids will dilute their blood. Physicians are the ones who are trained to make that determination, based on ALL the FACTS of a patient's case.

The line about "heart failure" is misleading. To the lay person it sounds as though the patient goes into cardiac arrest immediately when circulatory volume increases. That is not the case. The body is amazingly adaptive and will compensate for small shifts in fluid balance. What is being referred to, in my professional opinion, is what is called "congestive heart failure" which involves a fluid volume that is greater than the heart's capacity to circulate it, resulting in a "backlog" of fluid. The condition is highly treatable and reversible with medications like diuretics and digoxin.

Leave it to the not-so-brilliant minds of the idiots at the helm of the WTS to increase their followers' paranoia about the medical profession yet another notch.
