  responsible childbearing in this time of the end .

  i heard the talk that formed the basis of this article in the summer of 1987 while attending with my pregnant wife.

  the stress was on not having children and devoting lives to preaching the watchtower's message.

  I remember those talks well, too.

  I also remember having an elder come up to me shortly after we announced that we were expecting our third child (planned!), obviously very disturbed that we ignored theocratic advice. He said that the pregnancy had to have been an "accident" (how I despise that term!) because nobody who took the scriptures seriously would be stupid enough to PLAN to have a baby so close to Armageddon.

  I wanted to spit in his self-righteous face!!

  In retrospect, I wonder how many JW women experience post-natal depression as a result of this kind of verbal/psychological abuse from "the friends"?? I had it with two of my three children....

  Religious Restraining Orders: Do U Want 1?

  i thought this court case was rather interesting.

  in short, the baptist church in iowa got a permanent restraining order against anyone who is "unsaved.

  Wow, Skipper, this is very interesting.

  I can imagine enforcing a restraining order of this nature would be very difficult. How on earth can they justify a 10-mile radius?? Do they own all that land surrounding the church?? Are there roads in the vicinity that are used for local traffic?? Are there signs posted that read "10-mile radius, Enter only if you have been SAVED!"?? Who pays the taxes on the land within the 10 mile radius??

  Am I missing something here?? Or is this church asking for something completely unreasonable? And what about the separation of Church and State?? Doesn't this completely violate that principle?

  i can't believe it.. i haven't even read coc, and isocf!!.

  'The Truth" about the Golden Rule

  even though i ceased believing in the christian god many years ago, i've always thought that the golden rule contained in the sermon on the mount, was the perfect philosophy.

  you know, do unto others.... i was quite surprised when i discovered that these words were not original to jesus and were in fact already contained in the talmud.. rabbi hillel, who died somewhere between 10 & 25 ce had written "do not unto others what you would not have others do unto you" sab 31a.

  still good words to live by, but not original to jesus as the bible would have you believe.

  My husband is of Irish ancestry. St Patrick's Day is now on par with Christmas since we've left the JWs as far as he's concerned.

  When I first met him, I didn't realize he had only been "in the Truth™" for a couple of years. It became very evident though when he asked Do you have any Irish in you? When I replied that I didn't, his next question was Would you like some??

  This happened at a District Convention. I was so embarrassed!! LOL

  Do Not Call Violators Fined Big $

  i heard a news item on the radio on the way home tonight.

  unfortunately i was avoiding being splattered by a truck at the time, so my recollection is hazy.. anyway, the item stated that a bunch of consumers who had been on the do-not-call registry in new york, sued and won a large sum of money (either $100,000 or $200,000) when they were called by a telemarketer.. i've not been able to find an online news item about this.

  anyone else hear this?.

  This is very interesting Expat.......

  And all the more reason why people should register a "Do Not Call" with their local municipality, instead of with JWs who claim to keep their own records.

  Having a third, disinterested party taking care of the registrations will ensure that a situation does not arise where JWs' become "misplaced" or individual JWs can claim that they were not aware of the householder's wishes.

  The WTS is probably fully aware of this legislation and is trying to curtail having this kind of lawsuit come up against them. They know they'd be in trouble if it ever came to court. This is also probably the reason why they are reorganizing and making all congregations become separate legal entities.... to minimize any lawsuits at the organizational level and keeping them directed at congregations instead.

  I wonder if they'll DF someone for ignoring a Do Not Call ordinance and causing the congregation to pay out a $100,000 settlement??
