Is your 3-day Watchtower Emergency Kit all ready?
by FatFreek 2005 inhave i missed something by not browsing each and every posting here?.
up till very recently, my two sons (one a jw and one, a non-jw) lived in the same community.
the never-baptized son decided to move to a different u.s. state and within a few miles of my home i'm a df'd person as of 33 years ago.

It's kind of funny, in a sad way, that some JWs are going to the kind of extreme emergency preparedness measures that you mention.
I suppose, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the Indonesian tsunami, major earthquakes, etc., that JWs are readying for the Great Tribulation™ - the WTS has always focused on the Composite Sign™ as pointing to The End™ being near.
I've never heard of it all happening in the space of 3 days though. That seems really strange to me - only 3 days of supplies, like water and food?? A 72-hour kit is what Emergency Preparedness organizations recommend, but for The Great Tribulation™?? Really??

I don't like volunteer work.
by moshe ini think the jws ruined me for doing volunteer work.
i always feel imposed on when they ask me to take on responsibilities- i can help out in an unofficial capacity, but don't ask me to take on a real position with duties and deadlines.
i guess any volunteer job that brings back those negative feelings from being an elder and ministerial servant counteract the good i feel from volunteering.

I don't like volunteer work either. I've found that when you're in, they always ask you to take on just a little more and a little more, until you've got way more on your plate than you really wanted.
I do things that don't require a big time commitment - I donate blood and you're only allowed to do that every 2 months. It takes a couple of hours out of one day, and I know that it will help 3 or 4 other people. That's good enough for me.
I also attend a weekly craft group and when someone new joins and wants to learn, I'm happy to spend that couple of hours helping them.

The union [local bargaining unit] sent a huge gift basket full of sweets and treats to each unit in the hospital, plus the union's head office sent out keychain flashlights with their last newsletter.
The hospital usually provides coffee coupons from the cafeteria for Nurses' Week, but I haven't seen any yet. Plus the CEO usually goes around with the one of the medical directors on the evening shift to each unit, handing out cookies and tea or coffee to the nurses. I'll find out if that's happening tomorrow when I'm working nights.
There was a skills fair today that was pretty interesting. Various units and committees made poster presentations of initiatives they've been working on, including 2 from the NICU where I work.
There's a Nurses' Week Luncheon on Friday. Usually I'll attend if I'm not working or sleeping. You pay $10 for your ticket and the union sponsors the rest. Every time I've gone it's been an amazing buffet lunch. I have to skip this year because I'm coming off night shift and will be dead to the world. The units will bring in extra staff to cover nurses who want to go to the Luncheon, and the hospital provides shuttle bus service to the venue where it's being held.
They've organized a volleyball tournament for 20 teams from various units for tomorrow night. Again... I'll be working, so can't even go and cheer for my team.

How would you refute . . . ?
by leaving_quietly ini have an issue with preaching.
specifically, going door to door, talking to people who, for the most part, have no desire whatsoever to hear what i have to say.
more specifically, being required to do so as a means of salvation.

1 After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest. 3 Go forth. Look! I am sending YOU forth as lambs in among wolves. 4 Do not carry a purse, nor a food pouch, nor sandals, and do not embrace anybody in greeting along the road. 5 Wherever YOU enter into a house say first, ‘May this house have peace.’ 6 And if a friend of peace is there, YOUR peace will rest upon him. But if there is not, it will turn back to YOU . 7 So stay in that house, eating and drinking the things they provide, for the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not be transferring from house to house. ~ Luke 10:1-7, NWT
