WTS Advice for Kids: Beat a Bully
by Darth Rutherford inwow... the irony is amazing.
so here we have a cartoon about how to deal with bullying, which in itself is a positive message.
what's incredible is that it's brought to you by a religious organization that dominates your life, and requires absolute, loyal submission from its members.. if you should dare stand up and question its unique, ever-changing, brand of contradicting "christian" doctrine, then you will be labeled as "weak", "worldly", "bad association", and possibly an "apostate".

I just saw this animation today. The irony didn't escape my notice. They touched on being the target of bullying because of what you believe. They identified social exclusion (i.e., shunning) as a form of bullying. They identified negative labelling (i.e., name calling) as a form of bullying.
They also state that the victim is not to blame. "It's not your fault."
Too bad they don't recognize their own culpability as an organization that not only practises bullying In the forms of social exclusion and name calling, but promotes it as a good and proper and righteous thing to do to someone who either makes a mistake in their estimation or doesn't agree wth their beliefs.
I think, if done correctly, we could use this to our advantage.
A spoof would be wonderful. Satire, parody and editorial comment are protected against copyright infringement claims.
BTW I wonder if frivolous lawsuits claiming copyright infringement is a form of bullying. LOL

It isn't "volunteering" if your Eternal Life™ on Paradise Earth™ is at stake if you don't go Door-to-Door™ in Field Service™.
One of my elderly JW relatives slipped on some ice and had a head injury while going Door-to-Door™ a few weeks ago. Got ripped a new one for missing the Meeting™ the next day due to the massive headache and goose-egg on their head. I wish something like that would have woken them up. *sigh*

Sorry to hear that.
If you have other family members who are JWs, she may have felt compelled to 'unfriend' you in order to prevent a cascade effect by other JW family members unfriending her. The social pressure to toe the line is strong, perhaps more than your mother could stand. I'm not defending her behaviour, just trying to look at the situation through her eyes. She may think that all of her JW friends can see what you "Like" and panicked, believing that her stance regarding The Truth™ would come into question if she didn't react as she did.
I understand your feelings too - it's good that there's some physical distance between you that prevents easy access to your wife and children. When your JW parent show such disrespect for you, she doesn't deserve access to your children on any level. Period. I'd have a conversation with your wife about making any updates or pictures of your family that either of you post on Facebook be blocked from your mother's view via the privacy settings. Any JW who has ever snubbed me or creeped me on FB in order to access mutual non-JW friends gets blocked.

Are atheists afraid of archaeology?
by Xanthippe inlarsinger thinks we are.
i have to answer this because it makes my blood boil.
this is one of the key things that trapped me in a religion for the first 30 years of my life.. we were told the archaeologists have found ur of the chaldeans, babylon, nineveh and evidence for the existence of the hittites.therefore the other things in the bible must be true.. archaeologsts have also found troy in modern day turkey.

Has anyone seen this? The old guys in NY give their thoughts on IN Vitro fertilization
by wha happened? inso giving your fertilized egg to a surrogate is pornia.

By the way, the WTS has always had a hate on for Artificial Insemination. As early as March (?) 1993, they expanded their hate of reproductive technology to IVF and the use of donor eggs and surrogacy, even though the practice of surrogacy was not only practiced, but permitted in Bible times (Abraham & Hagar, for example), and you could make the argument that Mary was merely a human surrogate for Jehovah in order for Jesus to be born. Never mind the fact that Mary was already betrothed to Joseph when she became pregnant, which was considered adultery at the time and was punishable by stoning.
How convenient for Jehovah that he was a spirit and unable to be tried in a court based on his own laws.

The new life is not engendered through an act of love between husband and wife, but by a laboratory procedure performed by doctors or technicians.
In this modern age, we accept it as the norm that children are conceived through an act of love between husband and wife, but it has not always been so. How many marriages were arranged in centuries and millennia past with young girls who only had just had their first period to much older men who were friends or allies of the girls' respective fathers, who didn't even know - much less love - the husband that was chosen for them, who were expected to be obedient and allow themselves to be raped and bear children for the benefit of a dowry or a legal transaction between families. All with the blessing of the RCC or whatever religious ideology was in charge at the time (including currently in certain areas and certain belief systems).
For all the flap the church causes over the unloving atmosphere of a laboratory procedure undertaken by two loving consenting adults whose only "crime" is that they dearly want a child, it's a far cry from other kinds of barbaric "procedures" the church blessed throughout history.

I returned to school in my 30s. Many JW acquaintances gave me flak about Armageddon™ being Right Around The Corner™, and urged me to Pioneer™ rather than waste 3 years in college getting an education and into a well respected and well compensated career.
This year will be 15 years since my graduation and 15 years with my employer. I have a career that I love and a comfortable lifestyle because of it. The JWs who gave me grief about returning to school are still complaining about their lot in life just as they did 20 years ago when I first started thinking about going back to school, about how they can't afford this or that, how Pioneering™ is so hard, how they wish they had a nice house of their own instead of paying rent, how they wish they didn't have to clean houses for a living or work minimum wage because that's all they are qualified to do... and on and on and on... I hated the "poor me" attitude so many Pioneers™ have and decided to make something of my life, and yet despite all the complaining they do about their lot in life (i.e., the consequences of their choices - or having reaped what they have sown) they all believe that I did something horrible by going back to school.
And then they get up on the platform and tell thousands of people how Pioneering™ is so rewarding, so fulfilling and how they recommend it to everyone. The only reason they want everyone else to Pioneer™ is so that nobody will be better off than them. Those Experiences™ JWs hear about are all bull$h!t.

What Are Words That You Or Others Have A Hard Time Pronouncing?
by minimus init drives me crazy when people say "altimers disease".. or jewlery.. .
-
Scully
I have a co-worker who says "fustrated" or "flustrated" instead of frustrated.
Like minimus, it bugs me when I hear the word jewelry pronounced "jew-ler-y", or the word nuclear pronounced "nuke-u-ler".
I refuse to watch shows like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo because I'd become so irritated at the way they bastardize the English language that I'd probably have a stroke. Or want to hurt someone. I have to mute the commercials because they are so annoying.
