  i've been noticing lots of these pins on lapels.

  i could almost understand the jwdotorg pin because the new mantra is to go to the website.

  but why on earth are they sporting a building?

  Well, you have Dora the Explorer © targeting young kids with "her" brand. IMO Caleb and Sophia are the WT surrogate for characters like this - marketing is targeted to *children*. This is the age (5 - 14 years) where brand indoctrination is the most effective, because children are drawn to make believe characters, including Dora, Caleb and Sophia, Tony the Tiger, Lucky the Leprechaun, Ronald McDonald et al, etc.

  Personally, I think it's hilarious and a bit desperate.

  It reminds me of those Shaklee or Amway "Ask me how!" bumper stickers back in the 80s.

  It would be even more funny if it was an exJW / Apostate™ marketing those idiotic pins to JWs. I know someone who makes pewter pins and jewelry and he says it's easy money if you target the correct market.

  i believe in humor as an effective way to bring attention to an important topic.

  humor has made many people aware of the true nuttiness of the jw cult in the past (sign language masturbation video—went viral).. amazon allows humorous reviews and even showcases them.

  My personal favorite is in the new Learn from the Great Teacher book, where it tells children that touching their private parts or (heaven forfend!) each other's private parts "makes Satan the Devil and the demons happy".

  It's not just about "you don't want to make Jehovah and Jesus sad, do you?", it's become "you don't want to do something that makes SATAN happy, do you?"

  Poor JW kids getting their minds f*cked on a regular basis - I have those books - the pink one, the red one, the yellow one and the paperback one - and I never let my kids near them.

  I've personally known a couple of families who have lost children over this idiotic ban on blood transfusions, prior to the WTS/HLC 'softening' the position on blood transfusions in Canada, where children are concerned.

  What about families like these, ones who did as WT commanded and opposed their children receiving blood transfusions? Had they been allowed to fast forward 20 years or so, it would not have been an issue and their beautiful children might be alive today.

  So, yes, in my humble opinion, the context in these cases *must* include a big fat "fuck you" to the WTS, the HLC and the toadies / Elders™ who robbed those families of their precious children, and murdered them by proxy.

  Why is religion in general so obsessed with what people choose to do with their willies and vaginas?

  what was it in the evolution of religion that got them so hung up about what people do with their genitalia?.

  i mean, the (mis)use of genitalia is up there with murdering another human being in terms of badness.. and in the 21st century, we have a situation where in the jw religion, it's deemed as acceptable for three middle aged/old men to sit a teenage girl down and ask her the details of her use of her genitals.

  to any normal person this is intrusive, completely inappropriate and bordering on deviancy.. why they so obsessed?.

  Think about it: your genitals and what you do with them is a very personal and private matter. If a person or religion can compel you to share those most private details of your life with strangers and impose rules on you in how you should conduct yourself with your genitals, they can pretty much succeed in controlling every other thing in your life.

  so i know one should remove his own stick from his own eye before ones self judges another, but i noticed something.

  it seems that the wealthy witnesses are the elders, the circuit overseers, the governing body... are they really different from any other 'worldly' religions or even organizations?

  i mean look at the jewels the friggen pope wears.

  A few thoughts:

  There are different sources of power - there is power that is given to people based on a claim of authority, as in the case of the GB; there is power that is bestowed upon an individual based on notoriety or popularity (like Trump); there is power that comes from one's own merit - being authoritative, being generous, being fair, etc.; and there is power that arises out of what one has: money, prestige, celebrity.

  Money can get you out of a lot of scrapes and money can allow you "privileges" that those on a lesser playing field will not get. It can make the beneficiaries of their generosity look the other way when they do things that other people do not get away with.

  Jesus did say that it would be like a camel passing through the eye of a needle for a rich man to enter the Kingdom. Some people think that he wasn't talking about a literal sewing needle, but a restrictive gateway that - in order for a camel to pass through - required the camel to be unburdened and to crouch down and bow its head... a position that from a human perspective indicated humility (getting down on your hands and knees with head facing downward). In that respect, if a wealthy person showed humility when dealing with others who are not so well off (not bragging about his possessions or his ability to school his kids at Harvard or Yale, or showing favouritism toward those whose positions allow them to grant him privileges or leeway, or making a show of their generosity for the attention it provides him) then I wouldn't have a problem with it.

  i last spoke to my father in march 1990. we finished a "quick build" kingdom hall and i had a 17 year old spiritual awakening and decided to drop high school to pioneer full time.

  (yes i was a dumb ass) he was not happy since my parents were divorced he was catholic.

  we had a arguement and he said stay in school get a degree...and dont come back if your a witness!!

  I'm so sorry for your loss.

  Understand that the breakdown of the relationship was not entirely your fault. Your father basically disowned you and that was one of the worst decisions he made. Why would you reach out to someone like that?

  Yes, it's no longer in your hands to repair the rift. But maybe you could create a legacy that you could one day share with your own family. Put together a photo album, maybe some memories that you have of the good times you recall. Remember the positive things you had with your dad.

  Forgive him - he was hurt that you chose the JWs over him, and he gave you a terrible ultimatum.

  Forgive yourself - you were hurt by the ultimatum, and likely if he hadn't said those words, your relationship would have survived.

  Org Is RACIST! Towards Sisters Of COLOR In Particular--IMO!

  In my experience, the Organization™ has no respect for any human that lacks a penis. They've made statements to the effect that

  • women have smaller brains and should therefore leave the thinking to the men
  • a woman will hurt the fragile male ego if she should earn a better wage than her husband, and should not aspire to have jobs that could provide a better wage
  • women tend to be more emotional with respect to decision-making, and should always ask their husband/father for his input and listen to him (allow him to run her life for her)
  • women are nothing more than "a hank of hair and a piece of bone", according to "Judge" Rutherford
  • women are at the mercy of their hormonal urges, especially when "the ovum is at large", and will allow anything to *bleep* them, just like a cow in heat does (thank you, Fred Franz)
  • women are responsible for their being raped, either by dressing provocatively, not screaming, or wearing a thong (that nobody can see), or if they are married, are responsible for their husband's adultery by not providing the "marital due" whenever he wants it (ps: there is no such thing as marital rape)

  I'm sure there are people on this forum who can come up with more condescending bull$h!t the WTS has uttered and published with respect to women.

  But you are correct, HiddlesWife, that there exists a hierarchy among women as well. Asian women tend to be valued more than Caucasian women, due to their cultural conditioning of being submissive and subservient. They fit the "quiet and mild spirit" stereotype of men who need a power-fix over a wife. Frankly, I think this attitude exists outside the WTS as well and in my career as a nurse, I've seen it across all kinds of religious and cultural experience. Unfortunately for women of African descent, whose upbringing instills the value of not taking $h!t from nobody are regarded as "not knowing their place" within the Headship Arrangement™. Caucasian women fall somewhere in the middle, much depends on how opinionated they are, who their father and/or husband is within the Organization™, and if she comes from money, all the better for her.

  The bottom line is that if you do not have a penis, you are a second-class citizen in JW land. The only way a female earns herself any value/praise is by becoming a doormat for the men in her life.
