  Hip replacement on Monday. Wish me luck.

  as the title says i'm having a total hip replacement on monday.

  the pain has grown over the years and now i'm using a cane to walk.

  after steroid injections and physical therapy, it was decided that a total hip replacement is appropriate.

  Grreat Teacher, I think you'll do fine with the surgery and post-op period. Your surgeon will encourage you to get up and walk as soon as possible after the surgery, so please do so! Glad you have the walker and cane at your disposal... just make sure you label them with your name and phone number in case they get misplaced (it happens!)

  If you can have some meals prepared ahead in your freezer and arrange to have someone help you clean your living space just before and a couple of weeks after the surgery, that will keep your workload to a minimum.

  Finally, when you register at the hospital - particularly if you have been a patient of that hospital system while you were a JW, please, please, please have any mention of your being a JW REMOVED from your chart. That is how the HLC tracks down people in the hospital. They are granted privileges as "pastoral care" visitors and can request a list of people of their denomination admitted to the hospital when they arrive to make their Pastoral Care Visits™.

  Is English a hybrid language?

  the short answer is no, it is not.. i have heard one or two proposals that it is, including from langfocus, a usually excellent youtube channel.. but no, english is actually a germanic language which has borrowed many words from other languages.

  here are several reasons why english is germanic at its core .... 1. verb forms.

  As for the present/past continuous (I am/was going), well, French doesn't have that.

  It does… kinda

  while walking = en marchant

  while eating = en mangeant

  French also uses inversion of the statement format in formulating questions, est-ce que tu as… can be shortened to as-tu…

  est-ce que is more formal

  and then there’s that famous song

  Voulez-vous coucher avec moi? sounds better than Est-ce que vous voulez coucher avec moi? in this context. 😉

  Years ago I read (and still have on Audiobook) a title called "Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue - the Untold History of English" by John McWhorter. There are lots and lots of sources for words that are used in English. What started as English (see Beowulf and The Canterbury Tales) morphed as the British Empire overtook territories and entered into trade with other nations.

  For example, why does English use the word "do" when other languages don't? More often than not, "do" is not used in other languages, except as a verb: to do (faire in French; machen in German).

  No funeral

  i have run across another jw death where the final wishes are for no service.

  another wanted a celebration of life which the elders squelched as far as i know.

  Both of my JW parents decided there would be no funeral service, no obituary. Nothing.

  When some of The Friends™ found the idea disturbing, mother said "I'll throw a party when he's Resurrected™."

  With half my siblings in and the other half out, it was rather a relief. I was dreading having to deal with the infomercial and the self-righteous BS from the JWs.

  974 results found,this is the number of congregations of jehovah`s witnesses that have signed up to the redress scheme for child abuse victims in australia.. what does that tell us ?.

  Perhaps the total number includes congregations, as well as circuits, districts, zones, and branch so as to patch up any loopholes in the prosecution's targets. WT is nothing but thorough in its attempts to mitigate responsibility.

  me i slowly came to see religion was a crutch we use to dream of a better "afterlife"....i feel half my life was wasted building an organisation that had no criminal mastermind behind it...just alot of mislead people looking for leadership.

  The JWs had taught me that all other religions were false. I realized they were a false religion too. The end.

  However, I only gradually came to the realization that I am atheist, about 5 years after quitting the JWs. I hadn't really considered what I believe, but I kept asking questions and figuring things out on my own.

  Mainly, though, I just have absolutely no use for religion. These belief systems have been used for millennia to oppress and divide and pillage people, with the never-fulfilled promises of heaven or Everlasting Life™. It's the only con-game where people have to pay, and pay, and pay, (not just money, but time, energy, thoughts, love, friendships, etc.) and never get to enjoy the things they were promised.

  Who cares?

  Live your life the way JWs only wish they could. When they see you, and see your happy, carefree life, they think about how shallow their life is, how shallow their Friendships™ are, how meaningless and unsuccessful their Ministry™ is.

  I've started shunning them, because there's no effing way I will ever go back to their so-called Spiritual Paradise™.
