Murderous Jehovah's Witness bludgeoned female customer before leading meeting. Spiritual paradise?
by Balaamsass2 in1/31/2024 in the strange but true category.
confused holy spirit appoints killer servant.
"" a twisted jehovah's witness bludgeoned a woman he rowed with over incomplete building works to death with a hammer, then merrily whistled as he packed up his tools and went to lead a service at the church where they met.

Wow, the guy takes over 15 months to do contracted work that could have taken 8 weeks at most?
Seems to me the wrong person got whacked in the head with a hammer.
Isn't there a scripture about "letting your yes mean yes", as in "you entered this agreement, you'd better keep your word"?
This behaviour actually reminds me of the Canadian case of Basil Borutski, who murdered three women in rural Ontario in 2015. He would ingratiate himself to these single women, doing odd jobs around their homes that they didn't want to have done, trying to take over their spare time, etc. really creepy.
He died in prison earlier this month, maintaining his innocence and blaming the women for their brutal murders at his hands. At least he never had an opportunity to go before the parole board or being released after 25 measly years for his crimes.

Inaccuracies regarding pagan origins
by AEnEm ineaster and christmas have pagan origins.
many of us were told that since birth.
the evidence?

It makes me laugh how WT cherry picks which pagan customs to keep and which others to throw away.
Wedding rings, marriage celebrations (with white dress and bride being "given away") are also customs that according to them, are of pagan origin, but, hey let's look the other way, so we can offer some kind of fun to look forward to, otherwise the Sheep™ will become restless. We'll dress it up with a nice bow and even let them celebrate their wedding anniversaries.
If you're going to do that, you may as well go whole hog.... since "a little leaven spoils the whole lump" etc.(Galatians 5:9)

Earnest:
No, Scully. According to a Jehovah's Witness spokesman he "was not in an appointed position throughout the time of the alleged events”. (Courier Mail, September 5, 2022)
So it follows that he was removed as an elder before 2008, when the incidents started. That doesn't entirely tie in with the police allegation that he "used his position of religious standing within the Jehovah’s Witness community to target young men in their late teens to early 20s between 2008 and 2018" but it could be true. Thanks for the clarification, Earnest. I just don't believe the "spin". Sexual predators can take a long time grooming their victims and the victims' families. These guys weasel their way into "friendships" with them, becoming a trusted member of families. They don't just wake up one day and decide to molest and rape minors. They start out with youngsters and get the families to trust them to be alone with the kids. They do fun stuff together, playing games at the family's home, being part of the Book Study™, accompanying the family on outings, paying for stuff, having dinners together, etc. All of that could have been happening long before the sexual assaults occurred.
I know this because there was one in my Congregation™, assigned to the Book Study™ group in my family's home, and I was his target (after his step-daughter and daughters). My dad, a Ministerial Servant™, was not privy to this information, only that he had been Disfellowshipped™ and Reinstated™ TWICE before. The Elders™ in-the-know decided that their own daughters deserved protection and distance from the predator, and I did not.

Let me guess.... he was still an Elder™, In Good Standing™ at the time these incidents occur. No surprise there.
The other thing... he was let back in after being Removed™ as an Elder™... without ever having to apologize to his victims, and his victims were required to testify before the Judicial Committee™ with him right there in front of them.
F*cking B@stards.

Beards vs. Shunning announcements
by slimboyfat induring lett’s announcement that beards are now allowed he elaborated at some length how brothers ought to feel and react to the change in policy.
he warned brothers not to resent not being able to grow beards earlier if they had wished to do so.
he also warned brothers who supported the old policy not to allow themselves to wonder what the point of doing so was now that it has changed.

jehovaxx:
It will be interesting if someone tries it like they celebrate Xmas every year and then say they are repentant every time. Will the elders follow the new direction?
The solution to that is easy: keep your fairy lights up all year round - they look rather lovely in the summer evenings while you're out on your patio or balcony partaking in some wine.

June 2024 WT: Don't talk about Anthony Morris
by neat blue dog inthe latest study edition mentions hypothetical scenarios of jws who are no longer serving at bethel or no longer elders, etc.
and says we shouldn't speculate, as defaming them could border on slander.. we could unintentionally defame someone by spreading negative information.
..... would it be proper to speculate on the reasons why these adjustments were made and to share that opinion with others?.

I remember when Ray Franz was banished - there was an announcement in the Kingdom Ministry™ to not speculate on why he was gone, nor to attempt to contact him. Something to that effect. It was a very long time ago. Could it be....?? was he lurking here... ?

I wonder how many JWs who have been shunning DFd and DAd family members and friends for years are going to feel reluctant about reaching out to touch base with those folks, and what their reaction will be when those family members and friends tell them to pound sand?
Honestly how does one approach that?
"Hey! Long time no chat! We just got New Light™ that we can talk to you again... isn't that great?"

"hello? hello?"

Who Pays The Ferryman....?
by hillary_step infrench philosopher blaise pascal once noted, "men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction.
" a case study for this statement can clearly be evidenced by the governing body of jehovahs witnesses.. the gb present themselves as lovers of truth and righteousness who are the only persons on this planet who speak for god.
this doctrine is at the very core of the beliefs of jehovahs witnesses and is one of the few that cannot be rationalized away by wts apologists.

Hailstone message AND everyone will be saved? Questions
by slimboyfat ini’ve not been paying close attention to watchtower developments, but talking to a jw yesterday it occurred to me the society (yes, still use that term - old school) have been sending out mixed messages in recent years.
from what i gather, a few years ago the gb announced that during the great tribulation jws would be required to preach a “hailstone message of judgement” which involved telling people it was too late for them to repent and they were definitely going to be destroyed.
there were hints that this could be very soon, “any day now” preaching could stop and the hailstone message come in, kind of thing.

Earnest:
- This was reported on in the October 15, 1923 Watchtower (pp.307-314), the sheep were identified as those in Christendom who were sympathetic towards the Bible Students and their message.
There is a reason why scholarly articles do not recommend using sources that are 100+ years old... it's supposedly because we are 100+ years smarter.
And... it belongs in the dungheap.
