I read about this in Christopher Hitchens' book God Is Not Great (How Religion Poisons Everything) several years ago. I'm appalled that this practice has been allowed to continue, and that the offending Rabbi has not been reported to the Department of Public Health for wilfully transmitting an STI or arrested for endangering the health of newborns and child sexual abuse.

What pissed me off was the decision that the parents' and Rabbis' "freedom of religion" trumped the children's right to not be sexually abused or have a potentially fatal disease transmitted to them.

among the ammenities are a sand volley ball court, two tennis courts and a full basketball court.... there's also parking garages and picnic areas for visitors.... by the way, not sure exactly what this is but you'll notice a shaded area labelled "undergound chamber"... interesting.... (i wonder if moving out to the middle of nowhere was intended to keep bethelites from sneaking out at night and going to the liquor store... just saying).

Following that logic, they should have no problem with JWs building new homes, buying new cars, etc. But that isn't the case, is it?

FWIW, that's the question I would ask JWs who brag about these new HQ, to show the hypocrisy in its purest form.

They don't want us to have success, because they want to be able to point at us and say to their children: "This is what happens when you Leave The Truth™" - they want us to be drug addicts, alcoholics, criminals, living on skid-row, psychotic, etc. to scare their kids off of Leaving The Truth™.

If we're happy, successful, in good relationships, well-adjusted, doing well financially, how can that possibly scare their kids and keep them in line?

Banks never show the tellers what counterfeit money looks like? Its truly a lie!

i have been meaning to post this for awhile and i just came across this example yet again with a jw it is so frustrating because it is just not true!.

i so clearly remember assemblies and talks where this point was brought out over and over, that banks teach their teller only what real money looks like so they will know the feel and touch of it, that banks never give their telles counterfeit but only real money so then when a counterfeit comes through they can catch it easily because they know what the real thing looks like so well.

it is even in the bible teach book that was printed in 2005.. none of it is true.. when my husband and i left bethel in 1994 i was working at two jobs all the time to try to make it, finally i got a job as a bank teller.

Baptism

i just wanted to ask a question as regards jw baptism.

i already know that just before the actual baptism the soon to be jw has to answer 2 questions, but what i'd like to know is this: during the actual baptism do the jw's stick to matt 28:19 "baptizing them in the name of the father and the son and the holy spirit" ?.

thanks in advance for any help.. i'd also like to know if it would be possible to speak privatly with one of the more experianced members.

"At the close of the convention baptism talk, the baptism candidates will be in position to answer with depth of understanding and heartfelt appreciation two simple questions that serve to confirm that they recognize the implications of following Christ's example.

The first question is: On the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will?

The second is: Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in association with God's spirit-directed organization?

Can anyone prove that birthday celebrations are forbidden by God?

i know that there is no mention of any birthday celebrations in the bible besides the two which were celebrated by non-believers.

and it just so happened that on each of these events, someone died (one non-believer and one believer).

but does it mean that just because the bible mentions these two events, that all birthday celebrations are forbidden?

I wrote a spoof article based on King Eglon being smited while "easing nature" and King Saul having his robe cut by David while "easing nature" as "proof" that "easing nature" was not for True Christians™. It's exactly the same Logical™ train of thought for the ban on birthdays.
