I always thought Jehovah's ways were supposed to be an *improvement* on what human laws were, that Jehovah had *higher* standards than Worldly™ or secular Superior Authorities™.
I guess not, huh?
"jws leaders need to mandate elder bodies to uniformly report abuse to the authorities no matter what jurisdiction; prohibit elders from being involved in any investigative process to decide guilt or innocence in place of the authorities; do away with the two-witness rule to determine, as if they were magistrates, guilt or innocence of someone accused; prohibit so-called repentant molesters from engaging in the door-to-door ministry, and always inform the congregation if a convicted or confessed molester is meeting with them.
" -barbara anderson .
this is another reason why the watchtower society doesn't require that the elders uniformly report abuse to the authorities no matter what jurisdiction.

since i have stopped attending meetings i have realized that there are alot of good t.v.
shows that i have missed as well as channels that i would not watch because they would no doubt be in opposition to the scriptures(har har).. .
i have been watching the history channel and the discovery channel so much over the last few months that it is amazing.
Mr Scully enjoyed The Sopranos.
I enjoyed Mad Men, although I've kind of lost interest the last couple of seasons.
We both enjoy Game of Thrones immensely! It sucks so bad that season 4 is so far away!!!
For comedies, we like The Big Bang Theory.
We laugh our butts off whenever we watch Ancient Aliens on the History Channel. For a while, we were referring to the History Channel as the Hitler Channel, because it seemed to be nothing but Nazi this and Hitler that. Just before 12/22/2012 they were cramming all kinds of Mayan Prophecy stuff down the viewers' throats, but that's kind of gone by the wayside.
We love MythBusters on Discovery. Jamie and Adam have The.Best.Jobs.EVER!!!
there was an 16 year-old-girl in our old hall who was convinced by an ms that she needed to get baptized in order to be a more eligible, desirable and qualified potential marriage mate.
i should also add that this brother was interested in her even though he was 15 years her senior.
it got me wondering how many others have done this.
My brother-in-law was secretly engaged to a girl who was Studying™. They weren't given permission to marry in the KH until she was Baptized™. They had to postpone their wedding plans a couple of months until after she got dunked. Two weeks later.... they got married at the KH.
Now, to answer your question, I think it's a terrible reason to get Baptized™ because if you're trying to get a date or get laid, you're thinking with your genitals and not with your brain.
FWIW, I can't think of any reason that's a good enough one to pledge your life to a book publishing company and symbolize it by water baptism.
so since we have not been to a meeting in 6 months or so, i decided to ask my daughter (on the way home from cheerleading practice - yeah i can't believe i am letting her engage in such a worldly activity lol) if she misses going to the kingdom hall.
she says sometimes because she can't see her friend - but she has made new friends so it doesn't bother her too much.
so i ask her, "well, what about learning about jehovah?
sosoconfused
Don't stress about it too much. Like MrFreeze said, all children are born atheists - without belief in the supernatural - I can totally relate. When I was 6 years old, my parents started Studying™ with the JWs. We'd never been a churchgoing family before this, not even at Christmas or Easter. Anyway, the first Meeting™ we went to, I was listening to them talk about how the earth would turn into a paradise after Armageddon™ and I distinctly remember thinking "That's NEVER going to happen!"
Kids have a better BS detector than we give them credit for sometimes.
sometimes we waste hours and hours debating a subject like the flood, and the impossible scientific and evolutionary consequences that it entails.
we go into great debates about how all of is is possible, what a "kind" means (species, obviously not)... etc.... but believers will not stop believing... so here is something even a child would think of more logically:if god is all powerful and love why would he have not just made the wicked drop dead, painlessly?
simply, humanly.
I think sometimes religious people use the graphic violence (a) to scare themselves - and their kids - into behaving (b) as kind of taking delight in the death of someone they consider to be a sinner (Schadenfreude).
i have been encouraging my mom to cook with coconut oil, it does help with her dementia symptoms sometimes.
it is just not safe for people with dementia to use knives for cooking, thats why i need some recipe ideas.
thank you!.
use a spoon to take it out of the container instead of a knife.

Good for her.
Good for you too.
just put my 6 yr old to bed and we always have a chat about the day.
she tells me that she knows about another thing that happens to our bodies when we die in addition to buriel and cremation.. .
she tells me that they can do something really nasty to the body but its ok because they're dead so don't know about it.
I'd be curious as to what prompted that discussion in the first place.
Did another 6 year old come to school upset because their pet passed away? or maybe a granny or grandpa?
Did someone find a dead creature on school property, like a mouse or a bird?
I can't imagine a teacher just coming out and having a class on 'what happens after you die' - there must have been an event that precipitated it.
Did someone bring a book to school about a death in the family?
Yes, there's only a week left of school, but for your own peace of mind, I'd ask the question. "My child came home wondering about something you discussed in class, about what happens when you die. I'm wondering how that topic came about? She was quite distressed and needed me to follow up on it. How did the discussion proceed? Did other children talk about their beliefs or just yours?"
It's one thing if the teacher invited the children to talk about what they think happens at death, but quite something else if the teacher just stated her opinion without giving the opportunity to discuss.
how can you tell if your business successes are coming from satan or god?
because if your work gets real busy and you miss some meetings and/or fs, is that how you tell that it's from satan?
but then if you contribute a big amount every week, is it from jehovah?
It comes from getting up off the couch and working your ass off.
complete donation what happened?.
today i added a new article to my blog showing part of a never before publicized letter where the watchtower organization makes admission of how jehovahs witnesses actually responded to the 1990 change to its complete donation arrangement.
my article is titled complete donation what happened?
It's kind of funny, but when they first moved to the Complete Donation Arrangement™, Mr Scully was assisting the Ministerial Servants™ on the Literature Counter™, and I commented that there would be massive orders for cassette tapes, CDs and expensive volumes that people generally didn't purchase because they were considered to be luxury items. Mr Scully gave the people in the Congregation™ the benefit of the doubt and said that it was like being on the honour system, and the Brothers™ would be fair and honest and contribute accordingly. I told him he was dreaming in Technicolor™.
I also objected to the idea that we were expected to Donate™ the same amount as we did prior to the Complete Donation Arrangement™, plus any Contributions™ we received from Householders™ were expected to be put in the Contribution Boxes™ as well. I considered that to be "double dipping" as far as the WTS was concerned and I'm so glad the whole thing blew up in their greedy faces.
That's what happens when you're in league with Billy Graham as a "Friend of the Court", dumbasses.
