Even in Bronze Age ancient Israel, it might be older men that were judging at the city gate, but it was conducted in public where all the Jewish mothers could observe and hold the men accountable.
... and then make them a nice brisket.
okay, i know the royal commission hasn't started yet.
but i'm confident enough that he will be telling some whoppers.
so i thought i'd be the first to get a thread started for something that will begin... very soon now!.

i'm still trying to catch up on the rc broadcast posted to youtube, and i haven't been able to keep up with everything discussed here about it.
however, there have been a few points that i wish i could submit.
repeatedly it has been stated that unless there is a confession, jcs can only act on testimony if it is corroborated by two or more witnesses to the wrongdoing.
Billy,
I wonder if they read your earlier email...
"sadly, though, most [pedophiles] go unpunished by authorities today.
in australia, for example, it has been estimated that only 10 percent of offenders are prosecuted, and few are convicted.
other lands have had a similar record.
Those seem to be the ones that were reported, both abusers and victims.
I have to wonder how many remain unreported, given statistics that claim that [t]he average pedophile molests 260 victims during their lifetime.
I'm thinking in terms of District Conventions™ and Regional Conventions™ and Circuit Assemblies™ where these individuals can experience a target-rich environment, where JW parents and their children feel that they are in a safe environment, and are more likely to be trusting of other individuals in attendance, even when they are not personally acquainted.
It's terrifying to imagine my nieces and nephews in these environments, knowing that in my country, there are at least 400 known JW paedophiles (this was reported to me by someone with relevant knowledge, in approximately 2003). With approximately 40 Regional Conventions™ this summer, that means there could be 10 child molesters at each one, cruising around the venues and hunting for naïve children and their families to groom.

Billy,
It's interesting that the admission of adultery is from an Unbelieving Mate™. What if it was a JW couple, and one of them admitted to adultery, especially if it was the male party?
How many JW women have been blamed and shamed over adultery on the part of their JW husband, for example, for Not Providing the Marriage Due™, and putting him in a state of such terrible sexual duress that he just couldn't help himself by seeking another outlet for his libido?
It seems to be par for the course that when JW males do bad things with their private parts, there's always lots of excuses for his behaviour. The wife wasn't Submissive™ enough. The 5-year-old girl was a ¢o¢k tease. The cashier at the grocery store dressed provocatively. And on, and on, and on. In this Good-Ol'-Boys Club, there's never any accountability on the male's part, and no real expectation that he should keep his d!ck in his pants unless his JW wife invites/permits him to do otherwise.
i was raised a witness, baptized at 16, vacation pioneered, got married, etc.
i was very much your typical witness and believed it was the truth until last summer.
a very close relative of mine left the witnesses.
Atacrossroads,
Welcome to the community. I was in your situation just over 20 years ago, when 'the truth about The Truth™' was just starting to dawn on me. Mr Scully and I had 3 young children at the time. We didn't have a computer. There was no Google. But I started watching a televised university course on Social Psychology and began seeing correlations between cult behaviours the prof was describing and things we were experiencing with the JWs. While Mr Scully was at work, I would load the children in the car and drive across town to the library - the kids would look at picture books, and I would read a couple of chapters of Crisis of Conscience.
I was going through terrible postpartum depression, and was treated horribly by the local Witnesses because of it. Rumors were spread that Sister Scully didn't want to go in Service™ anymore because I was having panic attacks at the doors. I asked for help, perhaps I could go on Bible Studies™ with some Pioneer™ Sisters™? One of those "amazing" Pioneers™ approached me after a meeting shortly after this request and told me to "Get your own damn Bible Studies™."
There were other abuses that occurred which I've posted about before, but finally, the straw that broke the camel's back was when my then "best friend" told me "If you're going to turn your back on The Truth™, you may as well take your three beautiful children in the back yard and blow their heads off with a gun. That way they won't go down with you at Armageddon™ and will be Resurrected™ in Paradise™."
When I told Mr Scully about this, I asked him how this measured up against Jesus' words in John 13:34,35. This was not a show of love at all. None of the nasty, mean things that the Congregation™ had done to us was a demonstration of love. And he had to admit that it had been the same in every Congregation™ we'd ever attended. He'd spent years Reaching Out™ for Privileges™, being passed over time and time again for no clear reason, and when I shared with him what I'd learned about mind control and behaviour control through the Social Psychology course, it all kind of clicked for him, and he was ready to explore.
We called the 1-800-WHY-1914 line and spoke with dear Marilyn (RIP) and about a week later we received booklets from her about the WTS.
I started making plans to attend college. We started planning our fade. Holidays were observed but on the down-low. We got accused by someone in the Congregation™ of celebrating Hallowe'en when I hung some Indian corn on the front door and put a bale of hay and gourds on the front porch. I asked them what natural, seasonal decorations had to do with Hallowe'en. When Christmas came around, I put up pictures of snowmen and hung some evergreen branches on the front door. We caught $h!t for that too, but again, snowmen and branches on the door are not Christmas decorations, so they had to back off.
Finally we moved out of the Territory™ to accommodate my return to college. We were in a different Circuit™ and never made an appearance at the 'new' Congregation™, so nobody knew us, our Publisher Cards™ were never transferred, and none of the people in our old KH expected to see us at Circuit Assemblies™.
It takes a lot of patience to overcome the programming, but it's do-able. We're all here to help you along the way. Your husband may never relinquish his loyalty to the JWs. I think it's unfair of him to say to you that he "never signed up to be married to an apostate", when he was totally Inactive™ when you got married. Clearly, you didn't sign up to be dragged into a cult either; and you have every right to put the brakes on if you want no part of his religious delusion.
Hang in there.

the mother, who passed away in the spring of 2015, signed a new will just one week before her death, while she was dying, in which she made the jws beneficiary of her 300 000 $ dollars inheritance.
if you watched the questioning of terrence o'brien by angus stewart at day 7 part 3 on youtube--thanks so much for uploading these videos--you'll see that mr. stewart puts quite clearly to brother o'brien that the jw 0rganization is a "captive organization".. he makes this reference regarding the practice of da/df'ing and shunning, which he mentions is the one thing that makes ex-jw's the most angry.
because insisting on shunning ex-members causes psychological trauma and separates people from their family, friends and their community of support; therefore, they are held captive by the organization if they don't want to lose those most dear to them.. i believe angus stewart is to be commended for seeing clearly what the wt/jw religion is truly like in practice, and it isn't pretty.. the term "captive organization" is usually used in finance to mean a business front, a legal veil that shields the parent company from liability and having to make big insurance payouts.
for example if the australian branch gets sued and loses, the "wt australia" corporation will pay the amount awarded by the judge to the complainant.
I'm guessing the Branch Coordinator™, Terrence O'Brien, is Counting Time™ for his Field Service Report™ while on the witness stand. That thought alone is making me throw up in my mouth a little.
now we know why the governing body of jehovah's witnesses cancelled all the major regional conventions of jehovah's witnesses for 2015 and are only holding smaller conventions at the jw assembly halls.
"imitate jesus" convention series australia schedule .
interestingly the first round of regional conventions are due this weekend in the jw assembly halls in sydney (new south wales), melbourne (victoria), and brisbane (queensland).
If they reserved those Regional Convention sites in advance, I'm pretty sure they'd lose their deposit on the venues.
I'm guessing they don't want reporters filming, or asking delegates what their thoughts are regarding the Royal Commission...
Silence is worth a lot to these criminals.
my wife's mother just related to us an interview she heard during the recent three day convention that she just had to share with us.
a brother and his wife have, for over 20 years, shunned their daughter because she ran off and eloped with a worldly guy.
while openly sobbing, he related how difficult it has been to shun his daughter and avoid unnecessary contact with her and her family.
The loss hurts, to be sure. Children don't understand why they have grandparents who don't want to have a close relationship with them or their parents.
On the other hand, be grateful that these children will not be indoctrinated behind their parents' backs by JW grandparents who are undermining parental authority, and eventually hope to turn the grandchildren into loyal JWs who will shun their Disloyal™ DF'd or DA'd parents.
Mr Scully and I decided together that any time our children spent with JW relatives would have to take place under our supervision to ensure nothing of this sort took place. Eventually, as the children became more independent, they wanted little to do with JW relatives. We taught them what JWs believe, and they came to their own conclusion that the belief system was not for them; nor did they want anyone preaching at them or praying for them or disrespecting their father by shunning him. (He was DA'd by answering a trick question when a couple of Elders™ made a Shepherding Call™ many years ago.)

it sounds to me like he was a jw before he became a physician.
"kalauawa, who became a jw 31 years ago, said he had to overcome a major conflict between his religious and professional beliefs, because jws are opposed to blood transfusions.
@ Asian
What about JW nurses who are told to administer a blood transfusion per doctor's orders? Can they? Would his/her conscience prevent him/her from doing so? Could they be fired for not following doctor's orders? Could they lose their nurse's license? Any nurses/ex-JW nurses here?
When I was growing up there was a nurse in my congregation. She had no issue with administering a blood transfusion, because it was the doctor ordering the transfusion.
Then again, I've come across JW nursing students more recently who refuse to administer blood transfusions or RhoGam / WinRho to Rh negative women who have just delivered babies. The fact that some will and some won't is pretty confusing for educators. The fact that the WTS has created a gray area that allows JW health care providers to impose their own beliefs on patients who accept these treatments is going to come back to haunt them eventually, imo.
Frankly, colleagues of a nurse who routinely palms off their work to other nurses is not going to have a lot of friends in the profession. Most don't have enough time in the day to get all their own work done, let alone deal with someone else's blood transfusion (which can take between 2-4 hours per unit ordered to administer, with assessments at regular intervals during the infusion, plus calling the Transfusion Medicine department to order up your units one at a time when they are needed). Also, most physicians order a minimum of 2 units of blood, because a single unit is only going to increase the patient's hemoglobin level by approximately 10 mg/L and most hospital policies indicate transfusion when the patient's hemoglobin level is less than 80 mg/L. (Normal hemoglobin levels are higher than 100 mg/L; therefore 2 units are required to bring a person's hemoglobin levels up to a barely normal level if their starting level is 79 mg/L.)
