  If "the Truth" is the truth, why are witnesses so scared of research?

  it is an often asked question i know, but it perplexes me.. if witnesses are so convinced that they have "the truth", why is the act of researching information from external sources so taboo?

  didn't the bible itself tell people to "use their powers of reason" and also praised ones like the boreans for researching things they were told??.

  seriously, if there is no doubt about the organization being "god's channel" on earth, and it alone having the "truth", surely researching would only enhance such 'facts'?.

  When The Persecution Comes

  when i was young everybody used to fantasise constantly about how brave we would all need to be "when the persecution comes".

  we worried about what "they" would do to us and how we would never talk or betray other jws.

  psychologically it was a damaging environment for children; but maybe that's another topic.. who would have thought that when it finally came it would take the form of being sued for protecting pedophiles.

  The bunker videos make even less sense when you consider all the bad knees and backs and obesity present among Jehovah's witnesses. I'm serious. My mother can't exactly run up and down stairs or climb a ladder... Logistically it's a complete joke. (But I know, Jehovah would help them, etc.)

  where does one find the truth after the watchtower ?.

  according to the jw governing body... only jw's are left on earth after armageddon.. so i'm a private bible student and find jesus and all the prophets in total disagreement with this "gov body" who like all religions leaders, are actually the prophesied false christs.. please read math 24 straight... to see how to survive the great tribulation.

  only after the great tribulation does the sign of our lord's presence appear.. this is not armageddon yet.. discussion from private bible students is most welcome..

  I am personally convinced that this great tribulation or time of troubles was the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem in 70 CE. Likewise, "this generation" referred to that generation.

  If there are errors in the text relative to what really happened, then so be it. Call it a continuity error or plot hole.

  I do wonder if they'd be in the business at present of selling so many properties today if they had simply told their followers to go get degrees and good jobs, get married, and raise big families who would then go on to get degrees and good jobs.

  For all the criticism that JWs have for Catholics and Mormons, they figured that out ages ago.

  A Mathematic Perspective on Evolution

  i would like to apologize in advance if any of my information on the biology side of this discussion is incorrect, because unfortunately it is not my strongest scientific subject on account of my being subtly encouraged to view it with distrust.. i've recently debated the of subject of evolution with my father, i made the argument that when viewed over several million years random mutation provides a more than adequate explanation for humans having evolved from a common ancestor with chimpanzees.

  then he got this derisive look on his face a waved his hand saying "evolution's explanation for everything is the amount of time involved.".

  so i decided i would examine this mathematically.

  As you may know, a computer program is made up of ones and zeros, like this: 110010101011000. The way they are arranged tell the computer program what to do.
  

  Pet peeve: I get it, but I tire of that example, because it is not how programs are written. Binary is a numerical representation, and it is applied in computer science because of transistors being on and off, having enough power or not. Binary logic and arithmetic are important, but don't kid yourself if you think programmers are writing entire programs in binary. That would be dumb.
