Name the cuts the WTS has made in the last decade to save $$$
by Winston Smith :>D in.
in light of the well placed speculation of the awake going from bi-monthly to monthly publication, all arrows seem to point to the wts attempting to consolidate their operations to save $.. as metatron has stated, it looks like a death spiral for the wts.
maybe that's overstating it, or maybe it's closer to the truth.. here are some items i can think of that the wts has done in the last 10 years to save $no more subscriptionselimination of food service at assemblies and conventionshardcover 192 page books moved to softcoverprinting more items [name badges, dc programs, etc..] in two color instead of 4 color processselling the furman building in brooklyn heights.

There used to be a new study book each time a new book was to be studied on Tues group now there is constant repeats and repeats and repeats...........
Well it costs so much less money to have everyone review the previous books then to print new ones..................WAIT!!!!!!!!!! perhaps, they have ran out of new light.......................Maybe they'll start back on the "Studies in the Scriptures" and review all the old light

Ladies and Gentlemen, Your True God, "El/Yah"
by ColdRedRain inhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/el_(god) .
in the tanakh ?elohim is the normal word for a god or the great god (or gods).
but the form ?el also appears, mostly in poetic passages and in the partiarchal narratives attributed to the p source according the documentary hypothesis.

Forscher,
The name El is a god's name, just as yap and mot, is also a gods name in the canaanite panthieon, yet they also made their way into hebrew with a meaning of what the god governed, I forget what they both were gods of, but one was the god of the ocean/waters. and the name became a noun in hebrew, meaning ocean/water, not a proper noun. The same is true of the noun el, was originally a proper noun El.

The Global Flood
by coldfish ini've just read an intersting article on the flood to do with dates and whether is was truly global or a regional flood.. http://www.commentarypress.com/essay-flood.html.
my father used to be an elder for many years and the flood was one of the things that made him walk away not just from the jw but also belief in the bible.
he was hung up on issues like the flood taking place about 3500 bc and how that fit in with the pyramids.. i don't know much about egyptian history or the ages of the big pyramids, but his reasoning was if the flood wiped out every human on earth except noah etc then at 3500 bc there were only 8 people on earth.

What's "OK" in the JW org. today that was "wrong" just a few years ago?
by JH ini remember about 15 years ago, most jw's didn't have the cable, but today most of them have the cable.
what was wrong or borderline then is ok today.
give examples of what's "ok" today compared to "not ok" years ago.

My understanding is they now allow alternative service to military service, something they never would do in the past. I wonder how many of the brothers feel that went to jail for this stance feel.

country girl, I don't know if anyone mentioned this about Yap, but aside from stone money, the women run around with no tops on. and it's shameful to wear shorts that show the thigh. Men mostly wear a g-string type of clothing, even when doing bussiness with westerners. Yap is a part of the Federated States of Micronesia, I really wonder why they list Yap, Chuuk, Poenpae, and Kosarie as different countires, becvasue they are all one.

The way to get the jw's goat!
by gypsywildone inthe way to stick it to the borg is not self defeating behaviors.
it's not smoking a cigarette, & saying "nah, nah, nah look at me".
it is not putting yourself at risk in risky sexual acting out.

Every one of you that becomes happy & successful in whatever you do, is another little kick in the pants. Every one of our kids that turns out phenomenol is something they can't ignore, or explain away!
Yes they can, "it is Satan blessing them for going against Jehovah". Funny how Jehovah doesn't bless them in the same manner.

question for history buffs..
by candidlynuts inlast night my honey and i watched the program about pharoah on discovery channel.. they did facial reconstruction of pharoah and his sons heads...
anyway..in it they discussed how monotheism began with the egyptians.. that led to my honey and i talking about how people worshipped "god" in isolated areas thruout history before christianity or any other religions came to them.
what we know of history people would have rain gods, sun gods, earth gods , fertility gods etc.

Pretty much , my own feeling about the question, and from the studying I have done on religious history. But the reason I would say is to answer the questions that are not able to be answered in ancient terms and science (i.e. How did we get here, what or who made the stars ect ect). The only answer the ancients could really give was "GOD" or at least a supernatural being.
Religion has been a part of life for humans since unwritten times. As pointed out most religions have had many gods for different purposes, a rain god, a god of war, a god for women, a god of crops, even a god of death or afgter life was very common. Akenaten (spelling?) is the most ancient person to have instituted a monotheistic religion, even some of his writtings made it into the bible, if I remember correctly one of them is Psalms 117 or 119, I'd have to look it up again.
The Hebrews didn't have a monotheistic beleifs system until sometime in the 1st millenium bc, prior to that they were as pagan as any of the rest of the known world. Baal and Yah (Yahway) were gods of the caananites they were 2 of the sons of El the almighty, and they were very bitter twords each other even in the Cannanite beleifs, Which shows why there is so much animosity twords Baal in the bible. Eventually the likenss of El evoloved into the Yahwah, we know today in the bible.
Most of the current OT was not written or at least added to the Hebrew holy writtings until sometime in the 6-7th century BC. However some of the writtings are older, such as the Akenaten verse mentioned above, but were adopted by the hebrews and claimed as their own.

something in crisis of conscience i didnt know about... that shocked me
by candidlynuts inon page 164- 166 , in the chapter titled " double standards" subheading " two sorts of weights for measuring".
the administration of the headquarters of jehovah's witnesses many decades ago decided that, because of the exsisting law, jehovah's witnesses in mexico would present themsevles , not as a religious organization, but as a "cultural" orginazation.
the local corporation there formed " la torre del vigia, was so registered with the government of mexico(footnote).

the one thing no mentioned here that I saw, is at the same time, they were also having the Witnesses bribe government officals for a card saying they did a year of Military service, even though they had not. On the same note, and at the same aproxmate time the brothers in Malawi were being killed for not buying a party card, that pretty much did nothing then said they were registered citizens of Malawi. There was only one party, no competition, no voting required, just register.

I'm trying to fully remember, but there was an idiot group that put a proposal to the UN, about subduing religion, I forget how it went and what it said, b ut it was a group that needed a nation to submit it (and never got one). it was a finatical Anti religion group, not unlike finitacal religious groups. If I come across the site I'll post it. But it was meaningless, nothing more then you and I wanting to ban Chocolate in Switzerland.
