Hey, don't pick on outlaw! I find his cartoons both funny and educational, and anyone who says otherwise can meet me behind the bike sheds after school and get their ass handed to them.

God is Real in Principle
by looter innow the majority of people nowadays do no go by the hope of old times.
now the reason for this is important and goes beyond mere words.
our culture sees ethics especially national or civil politics as the rules and standards by which we guide ourselves.

Warning bells! Any organization that promotes spying or reporting on one another should raise concerns!
by stuckinarut2 inwe all know that the society promotes a culture of reporting on one another to the elders for any breach of wt policy (not actual crimes - just breaking of wt rules).
many here have been "caught" researching facts about the society on sites such as this one.. surely that should raise alarm bells??
only high control cult-like groups operate like that!.

In a word fear
The organization gives elders the power to be detective, jury and judge in people's private lives and this inevitably leads to abuse. Many publishers are willing to put others down to either climb the ladder or just make themselves feel better because the reality is that very few can live up to the org's rules and as a result feel worthless.
Also many elders are all too willing to scapegoat publishers because they're terrified of losing their position.
In my opinion many congregations are one big fear factory.

Education, Indoctrination, or Propaganda?
by stuckinarut2 incan anyone remember that classic magazine article that stated:.
"education teaches one how to think, but propaganda tells one what to think" ?.
(if someone can post that quote and article that would be great!).

That same article tells you to check the track record of any organization that claims to have authority, yet I'm pretty sure when a person checks the JW's track record they call that apostasy.

"No collections are taken at their Kingdom Halls or conventions."
In the UK the org sets an amount per publisher per day for circuit assemblies to be paid by the congregations, a motion is made and a show of hands is taken at a midweek meeting for this contribution and many more contributions demanded by the org. To question this at the time would be highly embarrassing so most people just put their hand up. One question a lot of jdubs have in private is why an assembly hall built and paid for by the brothers costs considerably more than just hiring another hall.
If the desired amounts are not received through the contribution boxes the advice from the c.o. would be to give a local needs, you vowed therefore it's a sin not to pay. So more guilt tripping.
How the org can claim the higher moral ground over Christendom is beyond me, thankfully moreand more jdubs are starting to question where all their money is going.

Are there any instances of "GOD" order and/or condoning the rape of women in the bible?
by Black Man inthis came up recently with my dyed-in-the-wool jw pioneer mother, who swears up and down that there are no scriptural instances of this happening.
i seem to remember a couple passages, but can't remember where they were..

Judges 5:30 'They must be dividing the spoil they found,A girl, two girls, to every warrior, Spoil of dyed cloth for Sisʹe·ra, spoil of dyed cloth, An embroidered garment, dyed cloth, two embroidered garments For the necks of the plunderers.’
Mucho human rights then.

Good to hear you've woken up and welcome to the forum. Do you think your husband would listen to ttatt? You know him better than anyone but you mention he had many issues the last time he was in 'the truth'.
It would be great if you could escape together.

A big warm welcome to the forum.
So sorry for your sad experience, it's terrible reading about the effects of an organization only interested in itself.
It's disgusting that the organization allows men with no training whatsoever handle cases of child abuse.
I hope your family are recovering, it's a joy to hear that you've all got free from this harmful cult.
All the best.

"Preach in all seasons...troublesome and fine" 2 Tim4:2
by stuckinarut2 inpreach the "urgent" life saving message in all seasons and circumstances says 2tim 4:2 right?.
oh except if it's cold, hot, windy, snowy, rainy or you have done an hour of walking etc... then just gather in a coffee shop and chat with witness friends.... so urgent indeed.....

When I was fading I used to do the absolute minimum when out on field misery, like staying at the group for as long as poss and taking the longest route to the territory, pioneer pace etc.
Then it suddenly dawned on me that I'd just become like most Jdubs out on service, staggering from coffee to Ice cream with no urgency whatsoever.

The old chestnut conscience scripture in 1 Cor 8:9 is used in the paragraph so that will give the prejudiced elders licence to still ban beards if they want.
Plus they probably still won't allow brothers with beards on an a$$embly platform. Always made me laugh that one, especially when many of the drama's required the wearing of a fake beard!
Beard fractions! Lol!

A sister I knew has passed away: I may go to the funeral
by StephaneLaliberte ina sister that i knew has passed away recently.
we weren't friends, but back in the days, she, and her family, were among the people i would always talk to at the hall and assemblies.
she was the type of sister that was kind and probably had more love to share than most people i know.

Same as above, make it about your friend and nothing else. I recently went to a funeral of a really old guy who was always friendly to me at meetings, even when I was fading, I'm glad I did it.
The talk will make you mad, 4-5 minutes at most about the individual and the rest used to advertise the Borg
people may use it as an opportunity to preach to you as well which was annoying for me as there were many things I could of said in reply to ones telling me they missed me and I was welcome back anytime (yeah right!), but I kept my cool and just made it about my friend who had passed away, quite a liberating experience in the end, hope it goes well for you.
