i was going through some files on my computer tonight and discovered something i wrote a few years back for an elder serving as a congregation po who claimed he was trained as a geologist (fat chance of that when i actually started asking him questions he didn't even know the basics) and claimed that the societies life book was a very scientific and comprehensive piece of work.
in fact, he claimed that if i could show otherwise, he would use the information in a public talk he was giving that related to the subject.
i blew him off at first because this is just about the same odds of winning the lottery but he kept after me and then taunting me that i had no answer for him.
Okay now I am on to proving that the bible is just a book, and not inspired. Which means more research to be done...lol

a month ago i was mucking about with some thick fencing wire and i suddenly got the idea to bend a couple of pieces into a set of divining rods like i've seen old nutters doing on tv.
so i cut two sections of wire about 2' long and bent the ends 4" at 90 degrees to form old fashioned diving rods (twitching sticks are made of yew or hickory or something .. don't know what, if anything aboriginies used).
You can discount it, but you can't disprove it happened. Is that better?

Why not try teaching responsible sex rather than just throwing contraception at the problem?
Christian communities have tried this, and failed. Teens will be teens, and hormones will be hormones. Preacher's kid or no preacher's kid, they will have sex.
If sex were practiced only in the bonds of matrimony a lot of problems would be solved.Indeed. And if nobody robbed anybody else, a lot of problems would be solved too. Sadly, human nature rears its ugly head. So the next best thing is to do what Scandinavian nations have done -- made sex seem perfectly normal and natural, provide ready education, provide contraception, and remove a lot of the taboo aspects of sex. Result? Fewer abortions, fewer unwanted pregnancies, fewer STDs, fewer problems.
Teens will have sex no matter what. Might as well deal with that reality rather than pretend you can change nature.
there has been several threads since the start of the war on afghanistan (and before it), concerning the issue of bin laden's guilt.
many have seen the obvious, that he and those who harbor him, are guilty, and that the attacks on afghanistan are completely justified if not the only choice for the u.s. still others claim the ridiculous notion that "evidence" should have been presented to the taliban first, and a "trial" should have been held for bin laden before any actions were taken.
i realize most readers on this forum could care less, and the fact remains that the few of us who have argued these points are pretty tired of talking in circles.
I've assumed bin Laden has been guilty from the beginning. But that's the problem, it's only been an assumption. The proof Bush said he would show us has never shown up. When he spoke to the American people shortly after 9/11 and said the evidence was overwhelming, it turned out he was lying to us. After that speech, senior officials in the government and the military admitted anonymously to the press that they did not yet have the evidence they needed. So much for Bush bringing a new moral tone to the country...
Just yesterday I read this news account of fresh evidence. Once again, it sure sounds like it, but still nothing definitive as that article makes clear. As I said, bin Laden is clearly behind it, or at the very, very least fully in support of it, and that's enough for me. But I've been annoyed and amused at how the politicians have lied to us yet again.

MrMoe, really? I hadn't heard that, and I'd be interested to know if that really was the case. Everything I've read indicated this was a children's book that adults began to read only after it became so popular.
The Hobbit, for instance, was deliberately written as a children's book, and it reads that way. The other Tolkien books are very much written for adults. I've not read any Potter books, mainly because I have no interest in children's books, so I can't say for sure.

forgive my morbid curiousity, but exactly what sorts of rituals were these?.
bear in mind that as dubs we were told that the rituals of the roman catholic church were satanic, that smurfs were satanic, that rock'n'roll was satanic, etc., etc.

a guy was seated on sophisticated chair and received somekind of electric shock, or "soft program" uploaded on his head.. after that everything he experienced was not real.

Huh? Did I miss something? Teejay and I did have a discussion, and we came to an understanding that we both basically agreed. To me, that doesn't include the idea of winner or loser, but a discussion among adults where we share ideas. It's not a competition.
Why not just read and absorb someone else's ideas.
I did that.
Then without feeling the need to draw every little flaw (you perceive), make a whole, unashamed, response. Nobody wins or loses so obviously, but everyone can read and comprehend, eh?
I didn't pick on every flaw, but instead responded to every question brought out. I suppose I could have ignored part of his response, but that isn't the point of a discussion board, IMO.
For purposes of example you end up changing the whole discussion to one of 'beauty pagents', not the issue being discussed 'swimwear contests'.
Nah, that was just sloppiness on my part. I thought of that as soon as I wrote it, but didn't bother to correct myself as I didn't think it would be an issue to anyone.
