Recent fav president poll; and who was yours?

a recent poll showed that abraham lincoln was america's favororite all-time president; jfk and "w" ties for 2nd and clinton got second.

now during our dub years we didn't pay that much attention (or claimed we didn't hehe)to the history of our presidents.

but i was curious as to who you guys think our best all-time president was.

I think that Bill/Hillary Clinton should be shot for treason.

In recent decades, as one president after another has betrayed American principles and rights, they should all be tried for treason. W. is the worst of the lot.

How anybody can think this guy is a great president is amazing to me. I realize much of this discussion is a choosing sides game, and if the guy you are talking about is on "your" side, then he's great, and if he's not on "your" side, then he stinks and is a traitor. But what on earth can anyone see in W. is a mystery to me. He's selling out the American people left and right, and people are applauding this just because he has simplistically wrapped himself in the flag and told everybody he's at war?

His method of therapy was a major breakthough at a time when it became clear the Freud's method of treatment was very ineffective, per a classic study by Hans Eyzenck, a British Psychologist.

Ah, no wonder you feel the way you do, larc! Believe it or not, even classic studies can be wrong. Sometimes studies are funded simply to prove a predetermined point. And Freud's method of treatment was and is extremely effective for many psychoanalytical disorders. Not everybody wants to put in the work this method requires, so some professionals went in different directions to find "quick fixes" that would be more popular to the masses. And the result of that is there are many different types of therapy in use today, and many very bad therapists. No study can invalidate something that has proven itself so well over the decades. Even if some people very much want to invalidate it.

t appears to me that Bush (or actually Cheney?) has managed to put together at least a half-competent cabinet, which is better than nothing. Seems to me there have been worse cabinets.

Well, Reagan's cabinet members kept getting criminal indictments handed down, but that's par for the course in modern-day politics. Seems there were a bunch of low-lifes in Bush's cabinet and in Clinton's.

However, although Bush Jr's cabinent is most definitely competent, in this case it is worse than nothing. These guys are busy shredding the Constitution. I've yet to see a worse cabinet when it comes to respect for the country. They are taking a "Trust us, we're the government" approach, something that is most un-American.

Bush showed up with a satellite photo of both Koreas at night - the South ablaze with electric
lights and the North in darkness.

Whaaaaat a simplistic idiot! What on earth is this supposed to prove? That all places that have a developed electrical structure are good, and all places with an agrarian society instead are bad? I realize North Korea in particular is a lousy place to live, but to make a point using this concept? Can't this guy think through anything?

Bush still has no shot at reelection. Presidents who get into office the way he did have historically never been reelected. And no matter how much of an artificial high he gets in the polls with his war, it can't disguise what is happening domestically. As his father saw with Desert Storm, it isn't enough to be a war hero. Bush is a goner.

cellomould, I haven't said much because I have no argument against your point. I think Bush is the worst president I have ever seen.

Boy, that's a strong thing to say, but as I keep considering it, I stand by that. Nixon was at least competent.

The only complaint I have about your indymedia piece is that they make it sound as if Bush has done all these things since the war on terrorism began, when in fact he began dismantling any semblance of being a 'compassionate' conservative almost from the day he was inaugarated. That indymedia piece unfairly stacks the deck, but otherwise I hear what they are saying.

i remember the andy griffith show (featuring the affable deputy fife) from the earliest times of my life.

it will be popular when my daughter is old and gray, no doubt.

but now... i'm beginning to wonder about me.... i find myself watching i love lucy whenever it's on, and i once hated... i say hated, the show.

Just nostalgia, teej. My MP3 collection is heavily skewed toward music from my teen years.

And don't forget, if a TV show became a 'classic,' there is a reason for it: it was (and still is) good. Ain't nothing wrong with enjoying something good.

would you go out with someone who was not physically attractive if he/she had a big heart on the inside, a great personality, lot's of things in common with, etc...i guess i'm asking what's more important to you the person on the exterior or who he/she really is underneath?.

I've seen that too, but more so among young ladies (and young men). It seems to be a trend that fades with age and experience as people learn that the flashy types aren't usually the ones who make good mates.

I've never been flashy, just steady, pleasant, and normal. Did me not a bit of good as a JW teen, for all the teen girls went for the seedy and flashy types, the ones on the fringe of the organization. Well, later in life, I found I became a lot more popular as women got to see my steadiness as a good thing.

The young want excitement. The rest of humanity just wants someone to love who will love them back with loyalty and respect.

Clinton was a very intelligent man, for all his personal faults, and the usual political hypocrisy and deception.

Nobody that met him, enemy or not, failed to comment on his grasp of issues and intelligent way of talking about things.

Poor Bush had to follow this. It's bad enough he's not that bright to begin with, being the slow one of the Bush family.
