I was a Christian, and certainly, in my imagination, like all true believers, created a "relationship" in which I "knew" Jesus and Jehovah and felt their influence in my life. That all changed when I realized everything in that relationship came out of my own mind and needs.

You speak of Adam and Eve in your posts as though they really existed. Like I said, you need a couple of good science courses and some serious instruction in critical thinking. If there is one thing for sure, it's that we did not descend from a specially created man and woman who came into existence some 6,000 years ago.

With no Adam and Eve, the whole basis of Christianity disappears - just like your imaginary relationship with mythical gods.

What was your first car?

mine was an old fiat 127, i bought it 1983 and it was at least fifteen years old then!

the seats were vinyl and there were no rear seatbelts so i could send my girlfriend and her sister flying with each bend in the road!

it wouldn't go above 55mph and was rattling like rollercoaster when it finally got there.. the rear window fell out and it finally croaked in puff of blue/black smoke.

First car: 1963 Ford Fairlane, dark blue, that I bought for $200. A year or so later I bought another, white, for $75, which my buddy and I put a Galaxy three speed manual transmission (on the column) in. It had the V-8 260 engine - smaller bore but same block as the awesome Ford 289.

When we put in the transmission, we got the linkage backwards, so 1st was where 3rd should be, etc. Really odd to drive, but you could shift up the gears with the same hand you were steering with, which when you're 18 is a pretty smooth move!

Come on! It takes about 30 seconds of reading to figure out this is a satire! Even the names - Dawkins, Faust.

This is funny, but anyone who thinks it's real needs a good swift kick in the ass. Even the premise - JWs, LDS and Scientologists combining efforts in backing Romney - is absurd beyond belief! And that's the point. Anyone who had any knowledge of any of these religions would know this is satire!

the yoga instructor passes around little sandalwood scented eye pillows, pops in a "mood music" cd, and dims the lights.

we all sit cross legged on our slightly sticky mats.

I did yoga classes a few years ago, and some on my own since then. I'm starting a new, intense exercse program this coming week, and one day entails 90 min of yoga.

I've loved it every time I do it, though I tend to have a not-especially limber body for a few of the poses. My hamstrings have always been exceptionally tight. The yoga really lets me stretch them.

Done properly, yoga is excellent exercise. All you need to do is look at Madonna's body, she's 49, and the fact that Sting still performs quite unembarrasedly shirtless at 55! Both are long time yoga practitioners.

Did You Ever Think The Demons Were Bothering You?

when i was younger i used to have terrible convulsions and hear "voices".

my mom was convinced that it must be "the demons".

the congregation prayed over me and eventually i went to a doctor that was able to figure out why i was so sickly and presto: everyone's prayers were answered..

At some point pretty early on in my JW life, I decided that if I worshipped a god who was incapable of protecting me from ol' Satan and his bad boys, then he wasn't worth worshipping, and from that point on I never worried about demons as a JW.

And guess what? They never bothered me either!

And now that I no longer believe in either gods or demons - ALL of 'em leave me alone!

A horrible scary thing happened to my daughter. You won't believe this

my daughter was on her way to work last week and stopped for a milkshake at a fast food restaurant.

they were caught on tape using the slop bucket they used for cleaning bathrooms etc.

to empty out the milkshake machine while they cleaned it, and then pour the milkshake mix (in the contaminated slop bucket) back into the machine.. apparently there was also a group of kids from an after school program that had a party there that same day.

Boy, did you ever post on the wrong site! You should really have taken a look around before you tried your Kirk Cameron routine on us! Kirk sounds impressive confronting street punks, but put him and his Englishman clone on stage with a couple of knowledgable atheists and he gets his ass handed to him (sort of like you are on this thread) and comes off sounding like the ignorant, self-righteous little Bible-thumper he really is.

So, if I get this straight, you were this guilt-ridden 25-year-old who read a 2000 year old book of mythology, thought it was real, had some sort of self-induced mystical experience, and now you've become an insufferable, but saved, bore out to save the rest of us pathetic souls.

Whoa, thanks for sharing - as though we haven't heard that same sad song and dance a thousand times before.

We might have believed at one time, as you still do, that the Bible is this harmonious book of capital-t Truth, but few of us still do. We left all that behind when it dawned on us that in fact the Bible is such a mish-mash of nonsense, myth, quasi-history and outright insane ramblings that 100 people can read it and get 100 different versions of The Truth - and ALL of them, just like you, will think all the rest are full of shit and ONLY THEY have THE REAL TRUTH.

You sad, sad, guilt ridden, little spiritual tyrant.

Go get a healthy dose of skepticism, rationality, critical thinking skills and some genuine education. Then re-read your holy book.

After that come back and talk to us again, and maybe you'll actually be able to answer some of these questions instead of preaching at us. Do you really think that the Bible telling us that Jesus was resurrected which proves the Bible is true which proves that Jesus was resurrected PROVES ANYTHING?? Christ man, get a brain!

The evidence that Jesus even existed is nearly non-existent, and any proof that he was actually resurrected is completely non-existent! If he did at one time exist, he disappeared 2000 years ago, and we haven't heard a peep from him since!

For many, many years as a Witness I kept a 3x5 card with each year's number of Memorial partakers on it.

Now, I had a few decades worth of figures there, and it worked out that the number of partakers actually increased 1 out of every 4 Memorials, or 25% of the time!

The literal 144,000 is one of the most whacked out Witness teachings. According to early records, there were hundreds of thousands of early Christians killed.

At this point, there are about 15 million "144,000!"

Bizzy Bee's post about talking with a JW elder at the door about the pedo issue where the elder's response was "What if the child is lying?" is very revealing.

It is the same mentality that requires Bethel elders to ask the local elders to what extent was the child responsible for the abuse.

It's the JW mentality of not trusting the flock, of blaming the victims.

Barbara pegged part of this mentality well when wrote that the elders see sexual abuse as a sin instead of as a crime.

he hangs out with all the middle aged women at the hall.

his gait, voice and gestures are feminine.. if he were a "wordly" man he'd be a "flamer".. well, here's my question: is he or isn't he?

I had a lover for a short while who referred to herself as a "fag hag" - a straight woman who hung around all the time with gay men, because she's really comfortable with them. My partner, Lori, told me that in her early 20s, she and a grlfriend lived in an apartment house where a lot of gay men lived, and she really enjoyed it, specifically because of the thought above - she could be comfortable around men who were not predatory.

Also, the comment that at Bethel they are called NPHs - non-practicing homosexuals - is dead on. That's what I've seen in 30 years as a Witness. I've shocked JWs by saying that you can be homosexualand a JW, you just can't be a practicing homosexual! And it's absolutely true. I think Bethel had more than its share, because it was a way for gay brothers to focus themselves on "spiritual" things and combat the "desires of the flesh," and there are lots of gay brothers who really want to please Jehovah and "do what's right."

I had three friends who married and had anywhere from 3 to 5 kids each - and all left their wives and the JWs because they were gay.

Another very close friend tried to marry a couple of times, but had the sense to not go through with it - and eventually he left and joined the gay community as well.
