Do you find yourself kinda thinking conspiricy theorist are maybe correct?
by IreallydidwalkoutofaKH ini don't know if it is me or if it is becauce i was taught so much false teachings growing up, or maybe that the watch tower publications are about a 10th grade level and when i read a thoughtful article i want to believe it.
but boy, television media seems to present the public with truths the same way the watchtower presents its truth.
with 10 minute sound bites, never getting to deep and really not explaining very well the history of some of the subjects.just a thought!

"As long as we cannot trust our news sources then everything is theory and no one's point of view should be labeled absurd."
That's also part of the problem - the sloppy thinking that says "no one's point of view should be labeled absurd," even if it is totally lacking in evidence. I disagree. I think some ideas, backed by facts, logic, science and evidence, are superior to those that don't have any support.
I happen to make a living as a news writer, and from the inside I can assure you that there is no conspiracy to hide the truth amongst news organizations. Does that mean that the news is always accurate and truthful? No. But it is not the opposite of that either.
Again, this concept of such high level conspiracies assumes a level of competence and secrecy that has never been seen in human history. And bringing the Devil into this?? Come on! It's like the fundamentalists blaming the Devil for the fossils that prove evolution over millions of years as opposed to the Bible's 6000 year chronology.

Additional support for the "end to COs" speculation?
by sir82 inon the "c/os in the uk" thread, a newbie poster named "ernie" posted this:.
have the rumours about getting rid of cos been confirmed?
although not officially in the public domain , my understanding is that cos will not be given a new assignment after their existing one ends on aug 31st 2009. each co has been sworn to confidentiality on this matter.

Think we ought ot keep this at the top of the pile. Very interesting info.
That original quote was from a new poster in the UK. Maybe we could get them to elaborate?

There's a crack in everything...
by Confession init's unavoidable... when a jw finds out you no longer believe it's "the truth," they're eager to jump on flaws in your thinking.
they (and formerly, we) want to believe that, when someone leaves, there must have been something that "soured you" to the organization.
some personal thing that resulted in bitterness and therefore your departure.. it's good to be able to say that you didn't leave because of any big scandal or personal affront, isn't it?

Confession:
You have my experience expressed perfectly. It was the 1914 Generation change when I felt that moment of being given permission to investigate whatever I wanted about the WTS.
At this point what exactly constitutes the Generation of Matt 24 is a moot point - I think the whole concept is silly. BUT, the mountain of evidence that I uncovered because of that teaching change showed me, as you said, that the WTS is not what it claims to be.
Good post.

I don't have it in front of me, but I seem to remember that the chief engineer and/or architect of the WTC buildings was one of the main participants in a recent documentary I saw on the collapse of the buildings, one that completely debunks all this conspiracy crap.
He was, understandably, deeply personally concerned about what happened and wanting to know why. The explanation given was reasonable, scientific, didn't contradict what we all saw with our own eyes and didn't ask us to believe the Bush Administration planned and carried this out without ONE of what would have been at least hundreds of people involved coming forward about it.
And there was not a 100% success rate. Did you forget the folks who sacrificed their lives to bring down one of the jets headed for Washington?
We've had these discussions before. It seems impossible that the conspiracies with little or no evidence continue to be believed, but I think that speaks volumes about the power of this type of view over certain minds.

I have always wondered about this....
by Iwonder17 inwhat happeded to all of the people between the time that jesus was on the earth until russell?.
if the gb is god's only means of communication, then how did those people receive instruction during their time period?
are they now all lost forever?.

"Yes, all those people between Jesus and 1935 are in heaven. And they numbered no more than 144,000"
Yes, and a MASSIVE flaw in WTS teachings. Anyone who looks at that explanation reasonably would very quickly see that it completely blows the 144,000 as a literal number idea right out of the water.

WAC and other conspirators:
Again, what you ask us to believe is a level of competence and secrecy that is simply unimaginable.
You want us to believe that fuck-up governments that haven't been able to carry on successful wars in a backwater like Afghanistan (USSR first, and now the US and allies), yet they can work together to pull off "something" that is "being orchestrated at a global level and that all of the leaders of the major nations are part of it."
Sure governments conspire and do horrendous things. But the concept that all the scientists and engineers and politicians are conspiring against the rest of us is fxxxing ludicrous.
As Hilary Step and Terry have eloquently expressed it, you guys are just another form of evidenceless "us against them" JWism. I was sick of that a long time ago, and I'm as sick of the conspiracy theorists as I am the fundamental religionists.

White Doves comment perfectly exemplifies what disturbs me so much about conspiracy theories:
Don't believe what everyone actually saw with their own eyes - the WTC buildings collapsing after two hijacked airplanes full of jet fuel smashed into them. The impact and burning jet fuel had nothing to do with the buildings collapsing.
No! A conspiracy theorist wants you to believe something that is 1000 times less reasonable.
They want you to believe that hundreds of people concocted and carried out a plot to SECRETLY wire all the floors of the heavily occupied WTC and blow the damn thing up - coincidentally following the crashing of two harmless jetliners into them a half hour or so before the collapse. AND, all of this was planned by our own government, and people willingly wired the building with explosives, knowing it would kill 50,000 of their fellow citizens. Most remarkably, NOT ONE of these hundreds or thousands of conspirators has peeped a word about it, and they did it without leaving a shred of evidence.
On top of that, this was pulled off by one of the most incompetent administrations in the history of the country, filled with people who can't wait to leave it and write a damning, tell-all of their experience.
My experience with conspiracy theorists and their theories is most often like what White Dove wrote: Don't believe the obvious, consistent and most reasonable. Believe the absurd, unreasonable and lacking in evidence.
Bullshit!

JW "craze" about cremation? Never heard of it. Did a lot of JW funerals and went to many more, very, very few cremations.
I want to be cremated for several reasons, and the modest expense is one of them. I hate that it costs thousands of dollars to die in this country! How absurd!
I'd like an Edward Abbey funeral - lots of friends, good liquor, live music and hopefully some gunfire, after my kids scatter my ashes in the Connecticut River. I've lived along that river and seen it nearly every day of my life.
