I think people often see what they want to see. So if you're a JW, you can watch the news and see what a horrible, violent society we live in. It's like when I went to visit my 80 year old uncle shortly before he died. His was a constant old man's lament of "I don't know what this world is coming too. Things are so awful." The Witnesses can be like that all the time.
The truth of the matter is, if you're not involved in illegal drugs and crime, your chances of getting murdered are extremely small. Get involved in crime and the odds increase astronomically.
I'm one of those people who sees life and society in general as overall really good and safe. I know there is bad shit out there, and I do my best to avoid it. Life is what it is, and once you accept that, it's a pretty wonderful time to be alive, if you're making wise choices about how to live.

Why is the murder rate going down?

"the world is going to hell in a handbasket" is the general belief of most witnesses, especially those who are of middle to low income and have to deal with the unpleasantness of things a little bit more than the well-to-do witnesses who may have their paradise right now.

Earth First and the Deep Ecology movement is sort of like PETA for trees. Attracts a lot of fanatical types, as the video clearly shows.
We're not losing forestland here in the Northeast US. In fact, we've gone from about 25% forested a century ago to about 80% forested today.
It's the mindlessness and the lack of reason and common sense that some of these folks embody that pisses me off. Comments like the one about the great life the rock leads is what I mean. They are a fringe group and will likely remain so.

That original post makes perfect sense to me, including the timetables. It'll take a few more years to send all the current POs through the week-long school.
Interesting that the concept of persecution is mentioned five times in the quotes: isolation, difficult times, and other buzz words. This gives the rank and file the impression that these are big doings created by imminent persecution, and not just downsizing due to expenses.
The selling off of perhaps billions in Brooklyn Heights real estate is no surprise. It has long been one of the primo sections of Brooklyn, and even more so now. Getting out of Brooklyn has been a long term goal of the WTS for decades.
Using a handful of circuit POs to fill in for COs and elimination of the COs fits what we've been hearing. Using persecution as an excuse for simplifying and cutting expenses is typical of the WTS.
This all makes sense.

!iam happy to say that i came to my senses and went back to school and became a nurse,very happy i did my wife is still a jw but she stopped the pioing and she to became a nurse.. i will make sure my kids dont get temped to be encouraged to do that wast of time.as the wife still goes,and my mom and dad and sisters still go.. anyway would love to know what others who were pioneers felt of it and what doing now,please tell..

Aux. Pioneered through my last year of high school, Reg. Pioneered through the birth of my first child four years later. After that I Aux. Pioneered and even Reg. Pion. for several years while my kids were growing up. Taught two Pioneer Schools in the 1980s.

I wonder if there is a way to register to vote without anybody knowing.
by easyreader1970 inafter i have mentally fallen away from the wbts, i no longer feel that waiting for some sky god to do something is an appropriate response to dissatisfaction.
but since i am still in the organization in body, i can't really do anything openly.
i was in the library yesterday and i was tempted to register to vote but i am not sure if it can be done in a way that my wife could never find out.

In my state, VT, there is a list of registered voters for each town, so if someone wanted to go to the trouble of finding that list and checking, they would see your name there. The list is usually available at the polls. As a news journalist, I used to use it because it gave the total of voters, and I could do percentages from it.
But, other than that, it's not made public. And I don't believe that you can be DFed for registering to vote. I have had friends DFed for joining a political party.
I registered while still a JW as an Independent, trying to do it on the sly. Wouldn't you know it, I was talking to the town clerk on the steps of town hall, and dammit if she didn't give me the oath right then and there, in the middle of my town's downtown square! Of course no one saw it, but I was nervous about it.

And I disagree with one of the comments above, I'll bet he believes every word. I also know that there will be a percentage of the audience hanging on and believing every word, and a bigger percentage silently gagging a little bit as they listened, knowing how much of this was unsubstantiated speculative bull shit.
Nothing better for the ex-JW crowd than to have this stuff made public for all to see. The WTS constantly chips away a itself with its words. It is its own worst enemy.
