Why Do Christians today need a "governing body" of elders to be their spiritual "teacher"?

since the bible reports that jehovah led first-century christians individually through instruction directly from the holy spirit, with no accountability to a "governing body" in jerusalem, why do christians today need a "governing body" of elders?.

Ask him what you should do with the New Light in the New Testament:

1 John 2:27 " But the anointing that you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as His anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in Him."

Let me know his thoughts.

If he has time to address another question of mine, ask him about James 3:1 - the verse that tells us that not many of us should be teachers... since that's the case, why are ALL JWs required to knock on doors? If he says that's how to serve ask him when the other service roles were thrown out that were presented in Romans 12:4-8.

Don't ask it like I posed. I'm annoyed tonight - can you tell?

i have such internal conflict on the trinity,,,i do not believe it,,,i dont know if it is jw brainwashing.

Orbison11, what is your goal? Are you trying to figure out how that Trinitarian stuff works to decide whether it's truth for you or not?

It's really not that scary once you get it.

....or have you decided to ditch the whole concept and look for a church that is non-Trinitarian. :)

The JWs slipped up again with the same Alpha and Omega error from 1978

the saying people will make the same mistake over and over again is so true.

in the "revelation grand climax at hand" the revised one 2006 the wt again makes the same error and attributes the words at rev 22:12 to jehovah on pgs 306 and to jesus on the last page 319. you would think they would have learned their lesson from the 1978 wt blunder.

they almost use the same wording discussing the suddeness of jesus coming and jesus encourages his followers of his sudden coming and they list 5 scriptures and say jesus spoke them and one of the verses is (rev 22:12).

His half sister (shared mother) is an absolute sweetheart and went to school with my daughter. When their mom died I was heartbroken for the my daughter's friend. His mother was a beautiful person.

I am absolutely certain his mother was not a practicing JW.

What is the most damning watchtower publication?

i want to purchase a couple of vintage watchtower publications to help in my helping jw's break free.

some of the older ones are expensive or hard to come by - i know you can buy them on cd's but i'd like to own one or two of the "classics of propaganda"- some of the ones that speak for themselves as to the ridiculousness of this religion.. of course any magazine i pick up today speaks to me of the ridiculousness, but you need something much more hardcore for the jw's.. any recommendations?.

As a non-jw, I was interested in the evolution of the door to door work.

In my research, yes, I learned that this whole scam started off with Russell who created a printing company under one corporate name, then started writing magazines under another corporate name then claimed that he wasn't making profits off of the magazines. Hmmm, but he HAD to pay the printing company - that he owned. Brilliant. He was followed by a truly religious Rutherford who realized through his college experience in selling encyclopedias how profitable door-to-door work could be and that got rolled in... These two? What was their religion? Money... Still and yet, being wrong, for some, despite Deut 18:20-22 could be forgivable...

BUT, the most insane piece I've read was written in a Watchtower of July, 1943 describing the mapping of territories. ANY non-jw who reads THAT? End of discussion... IF a conversation continues?... Compare that article with Ezekial 13... Case closed.

There are NO scriptures that say Jesus went door to door. John 18:20 screams the opposite. Luke 10:7 infers the opposite. History says that Christians caught proselytizing in the early centuries were fed to the lions. So... "early Christianity is not being mimicked... you're being lied to," is my mantra.

As for teaching, my experiences of the temperament of the JWs I've spoken with suggests that quite a few need to serve in a different capacity. James 3:1 suggests the same.
