Tech49 on HOURS, TIME, and REPORTS
by Tech49 ini thought i would share some of my observations on counting field service time, reports, etc.
and how those reports are viewed, to those that are still so fixated on numbers.. i served as secretary on the service committee for many years, and have seen it all!.
i was really disheartened when wt changed the requirement for aux pioneering to allow for 30 hrs, instead of the 50 it has been for so long.

Moral dilemma: to tell my husband or not to tell him...
by Julia Orwell inthat his jw best friend he hasn't seen in ages is coming for holidays from where he now lives overseas.
this jw friend was instrumental in getting my husband into the cult before we met.
i heard from a jw from my old cong who just emailed me.

I guess going on vacation is out of the question?
How about stopping all the drains in the house which could require staying at a hotel and falling off the grid for a few days.
Can you make your off work hours much busier?
Theater tickets?
Amusement park tickets
Free hotel stay that HAS to be used that week?
Gosh... I feel horrible for you.

BU2B: The text refers to Jesus for us non-jws. Differentiation using context clues is standard operating procedure.
Kind of like have a father and son with the same first name. To differentiate, the context of the story and even an inflection of a voice allows others to know who is being referenced or called upon.
I believe the creation of this proper noun has served the organization well which is the reason they keep jamming it down the adherents throats.

Should I send this letter to my non-JW cousin who refuses to listen to ANY criticism of our JW relatives?
by nicolaou insome background here; non-jw family members who are overly respectful and protective of the jw's.. i thought i might try a completely different tactic.
what are your views on my letter below?
i thought i'd let it sit with her for a couple of weeks or more before following it up .

Steve is right.
I assure you, though, given our position on not condemning other's beliefs, showing your non-jw relatives how their beliefs are condemned in the WTS would actually go much further.
I had no idea JWs thought my form of worship was of Satan. I thought they just had a different perspective. Telling me I'm completely led by evil? That's a whole different level of insult!

Believing in Two Gods
by NeverKnew ini'm trying to come up with "dumb householder" queries for if i'm ever graced with another door-knocking jw.. if i were to say, "are you the ones who believe in 2 gods," (in reference to christ being "a god" in john 1:1) would i get an answer other than "no"?
i'm not asking what my response subsequent to the answer should be.
i'm cheating and asking what they'll tell me off the tops of their heads since surely they've been asked this before.. .

I love the honesty! I want to see where THEY'D be... I'm a little concerned about using technical terms like "monotheism and polytheism"... I may not want to come off as that smart... not sure.
Cold Steel: Is the plurality of the word "Elohim" known amongst JWs? or have you gone beyond what the WTS has written.... *ahem*
*Lost* (love your name by the way): You kinda took me to thinking about echad vs. yachid in Deut 6:4 which would take me to a request for them to explain that verse against John 10:30 using WTS doctrine/theology and making sure the Bible wasn't contradicting itself.
Julia: I'm not Catholic, but I do know that saints are not deities in Catholicism (giggling - you guys are so cute). They really aren't. There is a different post-death belief system which contributes to the naming of Saints with respect to the work they've done. Protestants and Catholic alike believe in this post-death system. Catholics and Protestants pray to both as well and ask that the Holy Spirit be sent as a guide. :) I love the "have a nice day" deflection! Would that person's address get skipped from then on?
5go: For many of "us" non-jws, angels are angels, saints are saints and NONE are considered a Diety - minor or otherwise. :) Some individuals would take offense to that.
Phizzy: If they brought up the theophanies of the Old Testament, would you then get pushed to explain? Or did you have stealth deflection techniques like Julia... LOL
I watched as the JWs skipped my house yesterday (too many steps, I guess) and realized I needed to plan my next conversation. :)

So, as a life-long non-jw, I'd like to give you my unsolicited advice. Your approach ain't gonna work.
In our world, there is a serious disdain for individuals who rail against other denominations, ESPECIALLY those under the domain name of "Christian". Romans 14 is taken quite literally.
If you want to get a non-jws attention with respect to the inner-workings of the real WTS a different approach is necessary for that which is important to JWs may not be important to non-JWs.
For starters, telling non-JWs that JWs don't see anybody BUT JWs as being loved by God ought to get some attention. LOL
