  What Happened to the Religion I Left in 1995?

  josh here, new to the board.

  glad to know this site is here.. i would not be writing this if it were not 2014. i was a ministerial servant and regular pioneer who left the jehovahs witnesses back in 1995/96, around that time.

  i left suddenly, didnt fade away, just left when something clicked one day in my head during the morning shower and made me realize this religion wasnt true.

  Any recent wack-a-doodle elder comments in your congo lately?

  our go-to wack-a-doodle elder moved to a new congregation a few years back.

  the position has been vacant since then.. we had an elder move in a few months back.

  he appears to be angling for the position of resident wack-a-doodle.. at last night's service meeting, he said (paraphrased): "as a congregation, we've been busier than ever before with our special campaign.

  One platform topic that seemed a little "off" to me was when the speaker asked if anyone had noticed the unusual increase of birds. The audience pondered for a moment. Then, with facial expressions of enlightenment nodded in curious agreement.

  "Has anyone read what Jehovah's plan is for the birds?" he asked. He continued with 2-3 scriptural passages about Armageddon's flesh eating birds. I looked around to see some nodding in agreement and smiling as the speaker spoke of only the JWs being saved.

  I've visited a LOT of churches and synogogues, but this was definitely the darkest service I'd EVER attended.

  Can anyone disprove 607 BCE date using only the NWT and WT literature?

  i haven't come across any arguement that does not involve secular history and external references.

  in fact the wt can not get to 607 bce without using external sources as in knowing that they need to get back from 1914 ce to 607 bce, and botching an argument using an external date as reference to create their start point at 537 bce.. i realize that to get the final date we must provide a fixed figure from somewhere which can only be a historical source, but the objective would be to disprove the wt flim flam.

  once that is achieve we can use which ever fixed historical point they wish to chose.

  Testimony card returns

  old timers, or careful readers of the proclaimers book, are familiar with the "testimony card" used in the early days of rutherford-era door to door witnessing.

  the jw would traipse up to a house, knock, hand the card over to the householder, and wait while he read it.. well, it seems that "everything old is new again".

  i was just waking up so im paraphrasing alittle(i was dosing off all day) anyways in his introduction he said.

  "there is more evidence to prove gods kingdom on the earth is a reality than wind,electricity and gravity is a reality on the earth".

  i havent posted on here for many a year, but i have become an activist this year and i need a bit of advice please.. .

  a friend and i have designed some stickers and we will be attending the conventions this year, with the intention of trying to wake people up discreetly.

  I was going to message you on this to stay under the radar but I suspect that those reading your threads may find this of interest. I truly would like for this to remain buried in this thread. You will want to read James 1 and James 4.

  I recently realized that paragraph 7 is one of the first opportunities to show

  1. that the literature may be twisting scriptures to fit WTS conclusions, and

  2. that the WTS can do an abracadabra on the interpretation if you're not paying attention.

  The paragraph is about how the evil religious leaders of Christendom are telling people that bad things happening is God's will. Let her know that you read the book of James as a result of this paragraph. Ask if, contextually, she understands James 1:13 as being about God's will or man's will. If she reads it and acknowledges that the passage is with respect to man's will, ask her why they use that scripture to support God's will. If she says otherwise, let her argue in as many ways that she can, that the passage refers to God's will.

  As an aside, I've had three different JWs tell me variations of stories of conversions to JWism AFTER an evil ill-informed religious leader told them (or someone that they knew) that the loss of a loved one was God's will. If you are so blessed with this, ask if the writer of James would support that conclusion. If she answers in the affirmative, ask her how she interprets James 4:15 - Is God's will with respect to a life just true if they are doing commerce?... What all might be included with "this or that?

  If nobody died with their surviving loved ones being angry at their religious leader, focus on the last sentence of paragraph 7. Tell her that in order for an interpretation to be true, you believe that it has to be true thoughout the scriptures. Tell her that if what the paragraph says is true, you need for her to help you with some other scriptures. Go to Proverbs 16:4. Follow with Isaiah 45:7 and the NWT's cross-referenced scriptures at Eccl and Amos. If you haven't ticked her off, go to one of the Potter passages. I like Romans 9:10-25... there are some real gems in that small passage. Each of the following verses denies the WTS of some aspect of it's proclaimed truth: 11, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23.

  Let it rest for a few weeks. I promise you're going to want to leap to the next piece, but don't.

  When you get to the top of page 29? ... "HEY!!!!!! When I told you that James 1:13 had to do with man's will on page 10, you told me that the passage was about God's will! Why does this book now tell me that the passage is about man's will? Wait a minute.... seriously, which is truth??? Whose will is the verse really about?!?"

  Either way, she's stuck either denying WTS truth found on page 10 or denying the truth found on page 29.
