Did Scum learn how controling his elders were? I asked him what his elders thought of him coming to this forum and got no answer. He said the elders don't tell him what to do, like with his music and rock band but now he isn't posting here anymore. What happened? Could we have been right about his congregation being like all the others?
Geee, hope he didn't get into trouble

active and happy jw
by scumgrief ini am an active jw and was raised as one.
i have been watching the site for a while and thought it could benefit from the opinions of someone who is happily a member of the jw's.
i will not get into any argumets that lead to nothing except name calling, and will not talk with anyone who is just plain mean (plenty of them in here).

I talked to a friend of mine that has a bachelors in psychology and asked him where the JWs would get such an act like shunning. He said its typical behavior management. Pavlov's dog theory. The only thing is, it wouldn't work on most inteligent humans. They need to change there methods, you think and act of actual loving kindness would kill them? They would be a great religion if they allowed God to actually run it.

Christian love, my @$$
by mindfield inindeed... since i decided that i wouldn't be a publisher any longer and make no more talks, i've noticed more people avoiding me, talking less to me, etc.
i mean, what is this crap?
i wasn't baptized, i still maintain exemplary behaviour, etc.

I was in a grocery store, just getting there when I saw someone run out of the store to his van, it was one of the elders. I didn't know they could run!!!
Anyhow, I was just talking with a friend that has a bachelors in Psychology and asked him where they get this shunning idea from. He said Pavlov's dog. When the dog did something he wanted it to do he would ring a bell and give him a treat. Eventually when he would ring the bell the dog would drull on automatic response. So this is what they are teaching and why. They just haven't figured out that it doesn't work on humans. So who is the one that will go to a kingdom hall and start barking now? I really would love to hear the response of the people if that actually happens!

Reasons to Quit
by Frenchy in-some of you might recognize that caption as the title to one of merle and willie's biggest hits but this is not about drugs and alcohol but about something many of us here hold in common.. i have read many reasons stated here for those who have left the organization either formally (through df'ing or da'ing) and those that are still technically in but mentally out.
some (quite a few as i expected) have left to pursue lifestyles inconsistent with teachings which they evidently once held dear (they were questioned about those beliefs prior to baptism) but have now abandoned.
that reasoning is absurd but it makes good sense to the rank and file.

I wish it were real too. But something so hurtful to so many can't be good. I wish I could get over the hurt of realizing they weren't as loving as they once promised me they would be.

just keep letting her know you are there like my sister did for me. She would keep telling me that no matter what I did, she would always be there for me. Then she would ask me, "Will the JWs be there if later down the road you relized what kind of friends they really are?" So just keep letting this person know you will always be there for her and she will come around eventually. And pray.

I had a nonreligious email that was just cute and funny and sent it to everyone I considered a friend. Some were witnesses. One gal, Sara, sent me a letter of reply. I quit going to the kingdom hall for several reasons. She stopped by and told me she missed once when the CO was in town and I told her if that was the case, she should keep in touch. I desperately wanted to talk to someone but feared it so I relied on Jehovah to show me who my true friends were. I gave up and just wrote a letter of disassociation after 6 months of no contact except when the CO came and MADE them come and visit me. Sara was the one person in the congregation that cried her eyes out, my husband informed me. He was there. I had a cute email to forward and wanted her and a few others to know I was just thinking of them and she never wrote email to me before, but this time she did. She told me "Serena,
Under the present circumstances it would be better not to forward or
send
any e-mail to my address.
Thank you, Sara"
This is the same woman who used to tell me she loved me and loved to have me around. I sent her a response anyhow saying "I still love you guys and want you to know I will always be here for you. I would never treat you this way ever."
I never treated any of them badly, never bring up religion around them and don't try to stumble any of them. I just didn't want to be around the religion. The religion is what is teaching them to act this way towards others. I was right in waiting for Jehovah to show me who my friends really were. And somewhere down the road, if any of them quit or if they don't, I will be there for them too. That is being a Christian. Having unconditional love.
So I just had to post this to get it off my chest. It still hurts when you find out all them that call themselves "the friends" are really phony in the long run. -

Who should and who shouldn't?
by serenaj92 ini should get alot of different oppinions here but that is what i want.
i was looking up who should partake of the bread and wine, and who should conduct bible studies.. in the bible, jesus does the last supper with his apostles.
some people call them saints now or annointed ones.

what churches are these, this is interesting. I think as long as they are knowledgable that would work. and what do you mean any believer can partake. most of them that I have visited say members only.

Scum,
What did the elders say when you informed them that you were coming to this forum?Didn't they "advise" against it? That is what they used to do to me for my music and activities other than field service. They didn't say no, but they advised against it, or encouraged me not to do this, and if I didn't take their advise, they and others in the congregation magically kept their distance from me. Like all of a sudden, they were busy, didn't get my phone messages, or just forgot.

when they write out at the end of the month how much time in field service they spent in that month, going door to door as an example.
So you believe then that only the elders and annointed should recieve the emblems (bread and wine) and that they should also be the ones to conduct bible studies?
I have noticed in churches, that only the men, pastors, priests, ministers conduct the bible studies, and if it is anyone else they are supervised. This is understandable. But making all members conduct their own bibles studies with people they meet at doors, even when they don't believe they should be, never seemed right to me.
