The USA also brought as the Watchtower, Scientology, Mormons and many other nice organisations. But in balance of things we also got Google, MGM, Universal Studios and all the other stuff that I like - oh and McDonalds (not ironically!). So we're good. Just stop shooting at things and keep the carriers in your own waters.

I lived there and loved some things, hated others. But overall I can tell you that most Europeans that I have met don't want to live in the US.

Will Google Balloons help turn the tide in developing countries?

well, i'm back on jwn so i may as well start a new thread!.

this story caught my eye on sky news recently.... http://news.sky.com/story/1104007/google-balloon-project-gets-off-the-ground.

it's basically a new initiative from google to bring the internet to far flung parts of the earth including parts of africa that are simply not wired up to the internet yet.. i'm not sure how the accessibility will work in terms of subscriptions etc, but google seem serious about it and early tests have been positive.. so, the question raised in my mind was, could this turn the tide against the watchtower?

Things like Cell phones have changed the game in developing countries. Yes, people need food, but they also need information to stay on top of the game to get food, water, sanitation. One practical example:

We had for centuries guys in african markets that actet as lenders. They come from the same family lineage and basically control the prices and the interest rates. They have the monopoly on these markets. Since the advent of cell phones, people startet contacting each other and borrowing money between themselves, leaving the "middle men" out. Also exchanging information about where to get rice, flour, etc. avoiding having to walk for miles without end. They toppled the "power" and this is a big step in the fight against poverty.

Let the ballons come. Only good can come from this. Also: Finally you will have Witnesses from poorer countries reading JWN.

How can one understand unusual personal experiences such as when going from door-to-door?

given that i know how corrupt, dishonest and evil the watchtower is, i have wondered how to understand a personal experience i had many years ago - long before walking out mid-2009.. after an unusual series of many "co-incidences" on a particular sunday, my friend and i ended up at the door of someone who had been praying to god for someone to be sent to him, and who was expecting us.. i am still convinced it was by divine intervention, but cannot understand why a prayer is answered by sending representatives of an apostate organisation.. also when taking up residence in a foreign country, under very difficult circumstances, i twice ended up "inadvertently" moving in to homes just around the corner from the kh.

on one occasion it was about a 15 metre walk from my front door right into my seat in the kh!.

have you had similar experiences?.

My experience:

I was 16 years old, horny and a brave Witness. One Sunday there was no one to accompany me and I went alone door-to-door. I knock on a door in a beautiful condo apartment. Usually nobody opened that door. To my surprise a good looking MILF opened the door (Ok, ok, to a horny 16 year old they are all good looking ....anyway, she only had a sheer, see-through nightgown on and was completely naked.

I started stumbling.....aaaaand......NOPE. Nothing happened. Left with the greatest boner and a dry throat.

No, I interpreted that as satan tempting me...or was it that she wanted to have sex and I was the answer to her "prayers"? I will never know...

Wizzstick how is your family dealing with your inactivity? Just to compare notes Mine is running the full Monthy show. Just one relative keeps contact with me, visits me and calls to know how I feel (not talking me back - me thinks he is "probing" his way out).

Fellow ex-Bethelite here. I know exactly what you mean. I was assigned to several branch offices (mostly developing countries) and had over the years interesting conversations with Bethelites from London. Yes, it seems that London Bethel was "a bit off" (=crazy whackos). They used to have books about Witchcraft (which shocked one of my conversation partners). Anyway, keep it coming. Let us know if you need anything.

so, here i am almost 5 years after the big exit.

life during this time has been tumultous, joyous and sometimes full of tears.

got new friends, social circle moving well (i am an outgoing person), new girlfriend (after messy divorce of jw wife), own business.. but i knew something would come back and bite me into my rear-end:.

Hillary, you're probably right, my girlfriend said the same thing that too much fading time has made me paranoid. These JW folks on LinkedIn probably won't even notice what I wrote on my resume.

Shortly after the leave I started my own business (only one job, before that) and never had to deal with the "problem" of my lost years. In conversations it is easy: depending on the person and the circumstances I decide to tell or not to tell. It has been way easier than I thought. People have good understanding. My girlfriend is fantastic in terms of support and balanced thinking. It is through her that I noticed my "cult thinking", which helps to work on it and get rid of.

Flipper, we have to meet and I have to hear that guitar playing . Thank you Antioch, because of your post I started looking a few Mad Men episodes. Very interesting show.

sosoconfused I did something similar. I spinned the "works" at Bethel to my advantage. Giving out mops, suddenly becomes "Team Management". Placing WT mags becomes: "Setup of a direct sales structure" LOL
