Looking back,"That was crazy, moment"
by MarkofCane ini got baptized later in life.
i was around 21, i had left and went out into the world should of listen to my gut back then, but instead i disowned myself and came back into the fold.
before i could get baptized, the elder who studied with me said i needed to get rid of everything that was contaminated by this world: music, books & clothing, everything.

My sister held a "break the records" party at her apartment in the late 80´s too where a bunch of brothers from her hall came with their old "bad worldly" music records and they listened to them first to see which of the songs were questionable. Then they broke them into pieces with their hands. Some records were harder to break than others or split into lots of pieces so they all agreed that the "worse" or more "demonic" the songs on the record, the harder they were to break. It was a fun party though I found as a kid. -

Assemblies - Before and After Waking Up
by Funchback inhappy friday to all!.
i haven't been to a meeting for maybe 10 years.
i only know what's happening nowadays from the experiences i read here or the internet in general.. anyway, on to the topic: i started attending meetings at the age of 7. as a kid, the only thing i looked forward to at the assemblies (circuit/district) was walking around veteran's stadium (philadelphia district convention) during intermission, hanging with friends, looking at girls (as i got a little older) and trying to have enough tickets to get pizza!.

I never liked going to any conventions or assemblies because it´s just too damn long to sit in those uncomfortable stadium seats and the hours would never go by! The only thing that I looked forward to is also the drama and going home at the end. A weekend wasted. -

Well, my sister was woken up on a Saturday morning from two sisters through the door to door service and she was actually glad that they woke her up because she would have been late for work if she´d slept in! So the next time they came back for a return visit my sister already started a Bible study with them (even though she didn´t even realize it yet)! This was back in 1987. She was baptized in 1988 at the age of 30. I remember that convention very well, because we got the "Revelation" book then. -

Types attracted to the sect known as jehovahs witnesses.
by atomant inl have observed the types of people attracted to the sect are many times unbalanced, unstable, emotionally insecure types.the jdubs seem to home in like vulchers circling the prey ,preying on the vulnerables.they tried it on me when my father who was an elder died.promising that if you become a dub you will one day see him again.l said how can you promise that when you keep making false misleading predictions.l was wondering if others have observed this phenomenon.

Well, my sister was contacted by 2 sisters on a Saturday morning and she was actually glad that they rang the doorbell because she would have slept in for work. But at that time she was looking for the "right" religion in church and she went to church very often but felt that there was something wrong in Catholicizm. She even made me kiss the feet of some Jesus statue in church (where others have kissed that same statue who knows how often before!) So the next return visit was already a Bible study with my sister. After not even a full year of studying and going to the meetings, she got baptized at the big 3 day assembly in 1988 (she was 30). She witnessed to my mom very extensively (who sometimes had to tell my sister to stop because it was all too much at once for her) and to me. So my mom and I started studying with an elderly sister in the town where we lived. We all blindly believed everything that was told to us. My mom did sometimes get very upset at the meetings when topics about sex came up in a talk or a WT study. She said that she doesn´t think that that is an appropriate subject when kids are there. But eventually she got over it. Now my sister and my mom are very devout JWs. They hardly ever miss any meetings and if they do, they listen in on the phone. My mom and I got baptized on a 2 day convention in 1993 (I was 17 and my mom was 57) . I stopped going to the meetings in 2002 because I met my husband then and he´s an opposer. So up till recently I was very resentful of him because he would let me go now but not our very young child. A month ago approx. I started going on the Internet about JWs and the first Website I went to by chance was JWfacts.com and the next was Barbara Anderson´s site. Eventually I came here. So the first thing that struck me very much was the explanation on JWfacts was that the other, more probable, interpretation of the "other sheep" and the "little flock" that Jesus talked to his desciples about are in fact the Jews who accepted him and the other sheep are the gentiles who also got a chance to accept Jesus! I was sooo shocked because as a JW you´re only told that the little flock are the 144,000 and the other sheep are we, who don´t go to heaven but will live on a paradise earth! I have NEVER EVER considered any other possibility other than that what the Witnesses teach! Next I watched ALL the GB broadcasting rebuttles of Lloyd Evans (John Cedars) and my eyes really opened up! I don´t agree with him a 100% on everything because he doesn´t believe in God at all but I still do. I am still confused about everything. I read some people´s comment on this forum that they are actually GLAD that there WON´T be a paradise earth for us. But I feel very sad because I don´t really feel like I´d like going to heaven (I´d miss animals and swimming). The only negative thing that I could think of is that you wouldn´t get bananas or coffee or other imported stuff as easily as you get them now and that you´d have to make EVERYTHING from scratch instead of being able to just go out to the store and buy it (i.e. chocolate, clothes or shampoo, soap, etc.) But my sister always says: "think about it: then you´ll have all the time in the world to make those things." So I´m just very sad that this is supposed to be it! And I´m not just thinking about myself! 80 % of the earth´s population are dirt poor and others have bad health or illnesses or are deaf, blind, crippled, etc. So if this is all the life we can hope for then I am very disappointed. Please comment. Thank you! -

Thanks for writing back Crazy flickering light,
I actually haven´t read anything from the WT for over one year already. As a kind of a "New Years" resolution I thought that I would at least read the Daily text again but now I don´t even want to do that anymore. Thank goodness I have never donated a lot of money in all of my 14 years of being an "active" JW.
I like reading novels. My mom disapproves of this of course, saying that those "worldly" books are a complete waist of time. I do believe there is a God who created everything. Which Bible translation would you recommend if not the NWT???
I do have one nagging question though: If the GB is ONLY about getting people´s money and wanting to get more into the JW "cult" by evangelizing more and more just for the purpose of getting more donations, then why aren´t they living a luxurious life-style? Where is all that money going? I mean, they are living at Bethel and not in a mansion with a swimming pool, they eat at Bethel and not at some fancy restaurants, etc.. Most of them don´t even have children where one could say that their children will inherit all this money. So WHAT IS THE GOAL of the GB if it´s all about the money???
I´ve had some people write that the GB just inherited all these teachings and the whole organization from the former members and are just continuing running it and do not want to really change anything. I just don´t get it.
When I say that I feel guilty because I´m not doing anything to deserve getting into "paradise", I say it because Jesus clearly said that it would be hard to follow him. Those are NOT JW teachings but Jesus´own words. So if ONLY being a good person is clearly NOT good enough in Jesus´eyes, I wonder what´s required. I don´t believe that one doesn´t have to do a lick to be favourable. I can´t believe "once saved, always saved" because James wrote "faith without works are dead." I mean that´s what the Bible says, not only JWs.
Before coming to this forum I have read almost the entire website from jwfacts.com and Barbara Anderson´s site and the site and videos from Lloyd Evans. I agree with him only to a certain extent because Lloyd Evans is now an evolutionist. On jwfacts.com I have read that the 144,000 and the great crowd go to heaven. The 144,000 are the Jews who accepted Jesus and the great crowd are the "gentiles". On a different website however, I read that both groups are the SAME!
I still have to read "Crisis of conscience" and "Captives of a Concept" and other books. Are there any books you readers can recommend to me as well? Which book should I read FIRST?
Thanks

Why I like the Mormons and why they are so much nicer then the JWs.

as a witness we all thought they were weird.
but the two faiths are a lot alike, except the mormons are really so much nicer than the jws!.

I would NEVER EVER join any other religous organization! And especially the Mormons! They think that God started out as a human and that Jesus went to America! Come ON!??? WTH?! -

I will ask my mom and sister what they think about the changes. But since they believe EVERYTHING that WT says, they most likely will be excited and thrilled about it. Unfortunately they are ones that will NEVER wake up! I just know them too well. Too bad. I kind of had a gut feeling all my life about this religion but I always ignored it. I felt bad for not being able to go to the meetings (my husband´s an opponent) and I resented him for not allowing our child to go to any meetings, BUT now I´m thankfull. Unfortunately my daughter and I can go visit my mom and sister only over the weekends and now that their Sunday meetings are in the morning again, they want me and my daughter to go to the meetings with them without my husband knowing about it. They say that I have too much "fear of man" and that Jehovah wants me to fight for my right to go to the meetings and be active again. They always made me feel sooo guilty. My mom and my sister are in fact the most judgemental and negative people I have ever met. I just started "waking up" 2 or 3 weeks ago and I don´t feel guilty anymore for not going! But I cannot say ANYTHING to my mom and sister because when I mentioned to them about the Australian Commity about child abuse, they said that they hadn´t heard anything about it and that Satan is already spreading lies about JWs and the Organization. AND my sister said that IF it is true, that Jehovah will "CLEAN UP within his organization" and we will all be very surprised at who won´t make it into the new system! My mom and sister are SOOOO gullible! They have NEVER EVER researched ANYTHING for themselves. They just regurgitate everything the elders and WT say. I am mad at my sister that she got us all into this cult! But I still love her and my mom and I don´t want them to think that I´m an apostate now because then they won´t want to have contact to me and my daughter anymore. My mom cries almost everytime I visit her that she´s praying so hard that I "come back to Jehovah". But she can forget it now. I somehow do wish that JWs have the truth and that there will be a new earth because I don´t really feel that I want to go to heaven (I would really miss animals and swimming) and it is a nice hope for the future but on the other hand, I am not doing anything to deserve getting into this new world. So, I am still very confused about everything because I don´t know what the TRUE teachings of the Bible are and if the Bible is even true or just like the Koran a simple book written by normal humans. I haven´t read any "apostate" books yet but I will read them. I sure know that I will NOT join another religious organization because they are all corrupt. I hope that some of you out there will comment on this.
Thank you!

How did you feel when you found out "the truth about the truth"?

Thank you for your answers. But Punkofnice, why do you quote the Bilble (Luke 16:10) when you don´t believe in it anymore? Hahaha.
I wonder why they DON´T act on what they publish. Throw out pedophiles and support the victims by allowing them freedom of choice if they want to go to the police. That is what the publications write but reality seems different by all the stories I´ve read all over the internet. Why hang on to these sick people? It would make much more sense to act at once. That would show EVERYBODY that pedophiles are NOT tolerated at all! That would show that they are different from other religions who just send their priests somewhere else. I just don´t get it! It would save the organization a lot of money too.
Hadriel: Thank you too for your answer. I did not go in too deep into this 607 B.C.E. topic because math is NOT my strenght and I didn´t read the entire account of that at thirdwitness.com because it´s just too complicated for me. But I get your point. But I was always told by the brothers that there is no YEAR ZERO!

Hi, I´ve been an "inactive" JW for about 12 to 13 years now. Just recently I have looked and read more about JWs on the internet. I am quite shocked about what I´ve read and watched on YouTube so far. My mother and older sister are devout JWs. When I told them about the sex scandals in Australia they just said that they won´t believe this "slander". So I will not tell them anything anymore. I am still very confused as to what and whom to believe. I came across this website: http://thirdwitness.com
and I am kind of convinced (at least about the UN membership) that the GB didn´t really do anything wrong here. As for the other 2 points I´m not so sure yet of whom to believe. On one hand it sounds logical what this "third witness" writes about the sex scandals but on the other hand, there have been some victims that won cases and got a lot of compensation money from the Organization; so there must be some truth about the scandals.
I am still new to this and very confused about WHAT the GOAL of the GB is in all of this. If it is just about the money, then why aren´t they living a luxurious life in the Caribbean?
Is Armageddon just a myth? Why did Jesus say that following him would be a struggle? Why did he command his followers to go out preaching if some say that we get saved simply by the "grace of God" and don´t have to do a lick to get into his Kingdom??? If the 144,000 are just symbolic, who are they? Who is the "faithful and discreet slave"? When I read the publications of JWs and went to the meetings and had a Bible study, their explanations all sounded very logical to me. So who can explain these things better? If all religions have a "core good message", why did Jesus say that NOT all would be accepted?
I hope many of you can write their comments of what they think.
Thank you!

Gotta love the ministry. LOL.
by Sabin inyou know how you go to the mid-week meeting & it is all about field service, how you can improve, do more etc.
do you remember how they would say things like..... "you get up brothers & you really don't feel like going out today, you look out of the window & the weathers just not good, then you look in the mirror & you say to yourself, i don't feel so good today.
you know your looking for an excuse not to go cause it's tough to get motivated on your 1 day off.

Yes, I absolutely agree with you there! I have NEVER liked going out in field service and I was always very happy when it was OVER! What I hated even more was telephone witnessing. Talk about sweating blood and water... I just never understood those that want to become a pioneer or do more. Going out there and talking to strangers was always a struggle for me and I could never understand those who actually enjoy doing it. I bet there are some who REALLY like going maybe because it makes them feel better or because they´re just so used to going out. They think they are brave or something. My sister always reproaches that I don´t have the "truth" in my heart and therefor feel the way I do. She is right, unfortunately I have never had a "close relationship with God". I do believe in God and I really do hope that he has a plan for us humans and can end this suffering that both humans and animals have to endure in this world. MOST people on this earth are dirt poor and have real problems and it would be nice if this world and life is NOT all there is to life. But like I said, I really always HATED field service.
