  How do you??? Help Please

  i have shipping issues....what can i say.

  i need to ship cookies and pies to the base where my son is.

  i thought about using the shipping store that is here locally.

  Hi Sheila,

  I send baked goods USPS Express Mail overnight(ask waiting if her goodies get there in one piece). The delivery is guaranteed by next day noon. It's never failed me. Since it's going to a military base be sure and check the box marked "waiver of signature" on the addy label they'll have you fill out.

  I've shipped a pie before and I recommend you freeze it, cut a piece of parchment to cover the filling then use one of those seal-a-meals to wrap it tight. If you don't have a vacuum sealer take it to your local market(deli/bakery)and have them do it for you. Then place it in a tupperware or rubbermaid pie carrier. Center the pie then stuff some paper around the pie so it moves as little as possible. Put the plastic lid on and it's ready to go. Make sure everything is packed nice and tight in the shipping carton. I sent a package overnight weighing 12 lbs last Friday(approx. 1000mi)for $40. It arrived in less than 8 hrs.

  Country Woman, Thank you for sharing the Sinterklaas story. It brought back a few good memories this morn.

  Some years ago I was visiting friends of the Orthodox persuasion and they instructed their little ones to place their shoes outside their bedroom doors on the eve of St Nicholas Day. I did the same(just for fun ;) but feeling a bit guilty. I stumbled out of my room the next morning to find my shoes filled with candy coins and treats. This is great!! :D

  My favorite place on the planet to be around the holidays is Munich-the Marienplatz Christmas Market. I've only been there in December once but must get back there someday. The city is totally Christmas crazy!! The food, crafts and music are outstanding. I hated to come home.

  Interesting post Nathan-thanks. I've been following this off and on and from what I've read this will be the loudest explosion ever heard by man and will kill everything within 1000 kilometers. Let the nuclear-winter games begin. Scary for sure but as Sentinel commented...I'd be outta there!

  Secret Santa II......

  i've just read in another thread that due to circumstances the secret santa for this year hasn't been able to happen, so i want to try and organise another one!.

  according to the lady at the post office, the closing date for international mail to be delivered before xmas is this week, but for post on the same continent we still have a few weeks so i'll try and take that into account so everyone can have their prezzy before christmas day.

  if everyone who wants to join in can pm or email me at [email protected] with their details before 12noon sunday 30th november(uk time), i'll try and get the details back to you by sunday night.

  My mommy is dying.... :(

  i'm off to new york this morning.

  i'm fortunate that my oldest daughter will drive with me, missing class to support her mom and possibly to say a final farewell to her grandma.. my mother has has two strokes this year, and, after the first one in may, told me that she felt like she was dying from the inside out.

  she had another stroke at the end of august, and was eventually put in a nursing home.

  ya know...if i insult someone...i generally don't mean it...and i usually apologize for it....the topics that got me in trouble are ones i feel very strongly about.

  people i know are in harms way...being shot at...and dying...many here would say there's no meaning to those deaths...which takes the heart out of a soldier and makes it harder for them to concentrate and stay out of harms way.

  as many of you know there has been little friction on the board lately do to some recent deletions and exodus to another board.

  in my deep sympathy and feeling of total unconcern about these events i took it upon myself to do something about it.

  i planed my strategy using maps, schematics, long ropes, a 12 year old bottle of single malt scotch and about three minutes of planing.
