  Our New Orleans is gone.

  after talking to many of the evacuees from new orleans and watching all of the local coverage , interviews of surviors ,they are just thankful to be alive.

  they are also in deep despair over family members who they can not find, they don't know if they are alive or dead.

  not to mention the ones they know are gone.. there are so many are just heartbroken that the home they knew is gone forever .

  Would rebuilding it there again be the wisest thing? Is it an option to rebuild somewhere else?

  Probably not, but we have to have a port on the mississipi and as bad as new orleans was, i believe any other viable place for a port would be worse.The mississipi runs through the center of the country and trade from all over the world arrives there and is distributed nationwide. The city started with the French Quarter which is slightly above sea level because it was one of the few places in that area that was. I dont know any other place we could have a major port on the mississipi delta. Those more familiar with that part of the country may correct me, im coming from the point of view that cities usually develop where they do for a logical reason.

  ok, all you "bleedin' hearts" get ready to flame me..... i have been watching the developments in the devastated areas like everyone else, and something has begun to strike me.

  there seems to be tens of thousands of people who are just sitting around waiting for help to miraculously drop out of the sky, and the longer they sit idle, the madder they get that the government hasn't swooped in and immediately solved all their problems.

  i have a few questions about this mindset:.

  Im sure you would have held your breath and swam through the murky toxic water to the bottom floors of your house to hopefully find a cabinet intact and taken the soggy toxic bread and eaten it and made it back to the roof in the 60 seconds or so before you passed out and drowned.

  new orleans is becoming an interesting sociological study.

  when the artificial comforts of the human world are gone, all you are left with is your animal instincts.. people are reacting based on their life experience combined with their genetic make up.. some docile, some in aggressive attack mode

  i'm sitting here in awe, just having read that evacuation helicopters are reporting being shot at in louisiana.

  shot at.. looters are seeing an opportunity to take goods that will probably be destroyed or paid for by insurance anyway.

  it's dirty and nasty and wrong, but i can live with it.

  Perhaps they need it? Antibiotics, insulin etc may be needed and it's not coming from outside now.

  I hate to see New Orleans gone but its a lake now. The city is going to be entirely evacuated. There's really no point in draining a lake to build a city there. Future visitors can view the ruins with scuba gear.
