  Long assemblies

  there have been a couple of postings lately about long assemblies.. does anyone remember these, or maybe even attended them?.

  i was just a young child in the early 70's and something tells me i remember a long assembly, but don't remember if it was 8 days.. how long were they exactly, and what times.

  what the hell did they talk about???.

  Hehe. Considering they don't really talk about anything in the first place, I guess its pretty easy to just stretch that as long as needed.

  sisters all dolled up in lolly-wrapper dresses of sparly taffeta with balloon sleeves and brothers strutting about with shiny grey siuts with narrow lapels and black leather ties?

  i was at the watchtower website reading the article on organic food.

  under the heading of how it might be dangerous they say that prince charles of england thinks we might be overstepping our bounds into god's territory.

Under the heading of how it might be dangerous they say that Prince Charles of England thinks we might be overstepping our bounds into God's territory. First, if something is God's territory i'm sure he can prevent us from entering it. The other thought I had was, why do the WT writers feel that quoting a famous person who has nothing to do with the subject at hand proves a point? What's next? "How should a christian facing cancer treatment decide what course of action to take? Let's ask People Magazines sexiest man of the year, Ben Afleck for his opinion."

  this is for people trying to talk to their families that are still in the jw"s. .

  try asking them if jehovah has performed the greatest act of love .

  the bible says there is no greater love than that a man should lay down his life for his friend.

  Why be so nice to religion?

  it seems to me that in the u.s. most anything religious is always considered a good thing.

  nearly all media go out of their way for religious organizations in ways they rarely would for anything else.

  for all the religion bashing whining that the christians do in this country, i rarely see anything in public that bashes religion any more than anything or anyone else.

  As to our country being founded on Christian principles, I would appreciate it if you could tell me where in the New Testament there are any discussions of representative government, separation of powers, the principle of habeus corpus, the principle of freedom of speech, freedom of religion, a free press, the right of the people to peacably assemble, the right to bear arms, protection of private property, protection from unreasonable search and seizure, or trial by jury. Didn't find them? That's because they are not Christian principles. If they were, why would the United States have had to declare independence from a country with an established Christian church? If those are Christian principles, why were they not articulated during the 1400 years Europe was completely Christian?

  This country was founded on principles of the Enlightenment. This was a political philosophy that was articulated during the 18th Century. If the author had paid attention in H.S history class he would know that.

  Yeah, I understand how the Bible as we know it came about. Perhaps I misunderstood you. When you said " Argueing christian beleif from the bible only is the wrong way to go", I thought you were implying there was some other way to become a christian. Are you Mormon?
