Plm...Wow! You have put forth a lot of effort in order to get your degree...good going! I do have an easy time of it, and I wonder if I had to put forth effort comparable to yours, if I could have goteen this far, and performed this well. I understand your not wanting to "Jinx" anything, so I repsect your superstitons, but let us know when it is finished, and you can exhale! HbH

Adult College Students - Take a Bow!
by zenpunk ini notice that there are many of us here who were discouraged from going to college/university in our younger years, courtesy of the watchtower society.
i would just like to say "congrats" to those who, in spite of the indoctrination and the fact that they've had to attend college later while holding down jobs and paying their own way, have attended college and received degrees!.
when i left high school i went right into pioneering as college was not an option in the witness world.

Are the MEN apostates more imp. than the WOMEN?
by LDH inwell, here are my thoughts on the subject.
we sit here and bash the wbts for having gender separation, but what about us apostates?
do the women apostates carry as much weight as the men, and why do you say so?

"Are the MEN apostates more imp. than the WOMEN?" I had to look at this thread to see what imp. sttod for. Are the men more impotent? More impractical? More impressive? More impish? More imprecise? Hahahha, well, you get the idea. I must say after decades of the submission doctrine, I feel equal to the task with all posters. I don't feel a superiority of males here. I must admit, I skipped the reading of most post here, so I really might have missed the point of the question. But these men are not JWs. They are freethinking people, and as such, I assume they don't buy into the "men are at the helm" rules anymore.

Puufsrule: "Elderly!" Goodness! We prefer the title, "nontraditional student." I am almost 46, and in the fall I will be starting my 3rd year in college as a psych major. I have won merit scolarships two years running, have been asked to be a teaching assistant (TA), and I maintain a 4.22 (My school gives A+s) All of this after a 27 yr. hiatus from high school, during which time I became a JW and a pioneer. Of course, college ed. was a no no. 4.22? Eat it, Bethel!

by Sadie5 innow that you're out of the borg and don't have to get up saturdays to peddle magazines, try to fit in the family watchtower study, get up sunday mornings to rush off to the kingdom hall, do you feel like week-ends are great?

I kinda feel out of tune with the board
by Kingpawn ini've read lots of the threads over the past months, and think i understand the board's "makeup" of people (and please correct me if i'm wrong).
if i'm right, i might have a hard time relating to what the rest of you have gone through.. i became a jw in 1979 or so, and spent more time studying to be one than being one.
i was df'ed a short time later, briefly went through an effort to rejoin, and called it off when my first child was born.

Mark, I would say, count your blessings. Feel grateful that you don't have the level of regret that some of us who gave years of ourselves to the org. now have. We feel completely duped and robbed of life during those years. The fact that you didn't buy in, and were resistant to being brainwashed is in your favor. You needn't feel totally akin to the rest of us in that. Still, and I speak for others of us who post here, you are most welcome to join in the discussions, post your opinions and feelings. This ability, alone, makes this a wonderful place to be, since as a JW, independent thinking and opinion is discouraged, to put it mildly. As far as accepting certaing doctrines, you have the freedom to accept and/or reject anything you want, also something a JW cannot do, but I would encourage you to really search out information on some of those topics. I think you will be better equipped to form an opinion with all the input. Just my two cwnts. Thanks for listening. HbH

Online love
by StinkyPantz indo you think it's possible to fall in love with someone online?
assuming they give you a real picture of themselves and are honest about themselves.. is it possible to love this person before you meet them?
i'm not talking about the kind of love you share with your friends, i'm talking the real deal.

Soledad: Join the club...met my husband online, too. We celebrate our one yr. anniversary next week. And to the others who expressed sentiments about people just not getting what life is like as an ex witness. Absolutely! I felt awfully alone in my feelings...had a difficult time putting things in perspective until i came onboard here. It has been immensely helpful (although I wish I could find a spellcheck of sorts!)

A million thanks - all is well so far!
by TheOldHippie ina million thanks to all of you good people responding to my post regarding my daughter's surgery - it made me very humble and grateful, and my eyes very "watery" to read all the good thoughts and vibrations.
my daughter woke up last night after a looong surgery, and was very tired and in pain, as they had removed knots and stuff and things, and in order to get more working space, they blew in gas to separate the various inner parts, liver and stomach and uterus etc., to keep them apart when operating (man, are they capable of working miracles these days!
), and so she felt as if her entire inside had been turned upside down and separated and looked into and put back - what was not too far from what had really happened.

demonized child
by finnrot ini was raised a witness, and i was always told that demons were everywhere.
i was told that if you let your mind open to "wrong" thinking that demons will invade you and take over.
and just about anything could get you demonized.

Avengers: Mysentiments, exactly.
Finnrot: I served in several congregations throughout my JW career, and in all there was a profound "respect" for Satan's powers. I would not have Bewitched on my TV, I avoided garage sales, and considered unfaithful those who went to them. They were most certainly putting Jehovah to the test. I was not raised a JW, so I can't imagine the harm from the mixed messages, let alone the looney ones. HbH

Sarge is definitely the smartest of the three, and the most sensitive. At the risk of anthropomorphizing, I swear he knows how I am feeling. He loves human companionship, and he loves to swim. You are right, you'd get a kick out of him. The other two can't help their breed, and they do not confine themselves to judgements and prejudices that accompany small breeds, like Poms. They are who they are, and are entirely lovable.
