Oh MOE! Don't get me started! My husband brought my ready-made family into the marrige with him. I am the not-so-proud stepmom of a 14 yr old boy, and a 10 yr old girl. they are so indulged, and I don't mean materially, necessarily. They are pampered, coddled, and made to feel they are smarter, better than other children. There are house rules, which are laughable, because they are never enforced. They both have a nasty habit of saying "I hate you." to any member of the family, Pop included. As long as they are being entertained, or bought for, they are happy. The minute the party int heir honor ends, the poor behavior starts up. My husband and I are in stepfamily therapy, which is helpful to the extent that it forces him to see issues he hasn't been able to see, even through me, but he still has trouble enforcing with any consistancy. And to think, we have several more yrs....teen yrs...of this! UGH!

JWs and Stronger Marriages?
by Pubsinger ina bit of a follow on from the "honesty" thread.. another claim that jws make is that they have stronger marriages and are less likely to divorce.. try writing down all the jw couples that you know of that have divorced.. there are bonus points for those who didnt make 2yrs!.
i think you will be shocked at the number you can come up with.
we came up with 60 couples in less than 20mins.

Dobby, I think it goes beyond unhappy marriages, even. Many of the JW marriages, by virtue of the submission rule, are abusive and controlling. I have heard it time and again. Worse, I lived it. Worse still, I felt if I were somehow a better example of a Christian wife, i.e., MORE submissive, all would be well. When I finally got good and sick, I left.

Trying again for more door to door reasons
by Bang ini posted a question before regarding the way jws go door to door.
[luke 10:7.23] and remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages; do not go from house to house.
if the apostles didn't do it and jesus said not to, why do the jws do it en masse?

OK..So then, as bright as I am (and I am BRILLIANT...just ask me) what line of reasonign did I buy into that obliged me to go DtoD for 22 years, many years as a pio? What was I thinking by way of justifying the behavior, which looking back, now seems a ludicrous way to spend my time.

I like Pub's reply. I would NOT have been able to sit still. I would have had to appraoch her. she could have just been in a really bad mood, i.e., human. Nonetheless, as a JW, she needs to be ever-vigilant...always on her toes..always reflecting the love that should ooze from every pore as a result of the overflowing measure of hole spirit...blah, blah, blah. Still, I would have noted her unkindness to her.

Jim, "Most couples are together becasue the truth is the only thing in common." Amen. that was the truth in my case. I never would have met nor married him, were it not for the "truth". I definitely stayed in the marriage for 22 years because divorce would have brought reproach on Jehovah's name and org. And what of the years of abuse? Did they not bring reproach? Ah well, moot at this point. Have left both him, and the org. In earlier years, I knew of fewer divorces. The divorce rate among JWs seems to have sped up in recent years, and I know a couple of dozen cases.

Seriously, who is Diane Wilson? I live in NY, and it is highly improbable that I will make the event. So, who is she?
