An "idea" by any other name ( "conclusion" ) is still an "idea". We are able to do this ( "ideation, thinking, conceptualizing" ) because of the cerebal cortex. The process "itself" is an encumbrance to the direct experience of "what is". Until this issue is understood there will only be "ideas" and the problem with ideas is that cannot "hold" enough. They are limited . The "Mystery" can only be encountered and it is the thinking process itself that is in the way.

The Idea of God.
by Blueblades inthe idea of god is either a fact, like sand,or a fantasy, like santa.. the idea of god has guided or deluded more lives, changed more history, inspired more music and poetry and philosophy than anything else, real or imagined.it has made more of a difference to human life on this planet, both individually and collectively, than anything else ever has.. to see this clearly for yourself, just try this thought experiment:.
suppose no one in history had ever conceived the idea of god.now, rewrite history following that premise.the task daunts and staggers the imagination.
.from the earliest human remains----- religious funeral artifacts-----to the most recent wars in the mideast,religion----belief in a god or gods----has been the mainspring of the whole watch that is human history.. if the idea of god is a fantasy,a human invention,it is the greatest invention of all human history.. there are only two possibilities,"to be or not to be",that is the question.. blueblades

The idea of God is a result of the ability to "think" to "conceptualize". That process itself (thinking ) is the problem. If stopped , it cannot interfere with the perception of "what is". The perception of "what is" leads to an experience beyond expression because "what is" is infinite and absolute (and it is you). This experience has been "high jacked" by the "conceptualizers" and "bastardize-rs" into the plethora of ideas on which we are presently "choking".
Two puzzlements that can help one "conceptualize" why evidence of God can never exist are St Francis " What you are looking for is what is looking" and Allen Watts " Can the eye see itself? "

You Knew The Score!
by Englishman inmany years after i was df'd, i found myself at the end of a shunning campaign led by a robotic jw neighbour.. the neighbour had moved in next door to me.
he'd even borrowed some tools of mine before he discovered that i was an ex.
at this point he began a serious "i'm ignoring you" strategy which i found utterly hilarious as he was the one who had chosen to move in next door to me.

Some time ago, on this board , we were discussing how the Watchtower hides behind the ST Amendment ( Free Speech, Freedom of Religion etc. ) here in the USA. The Government does not interfere with "church " rules and only enforces this amendment to the Constitution when you are "choosing " a religion. Once "inside" , you are on your own. It was suggested that a "full disclosure" requirement ,attached to this Amendment, would protect countless numbers of people from making a "religious " mistake.
The disclosure would be along the lines of informing people , while going from door to door, that certain lawsuits are pending or accomplished and that if the person were to become one of Jehovah's Witnesses( for example) he or she would be required to "give up" certain basic human ( expression of conscience) and civil rights (free speech etc.) Sadly, given the "mind control" techniques that have been developed in this century and what has become known about the human "psyche", enforcement of this idea is long over due in the USA.
Does anyone know of any country anywhere that has anything resembling a "full disclosure " law for religions that actively seek out new members.

Is the idea of immortality in any way possible?
by logansrun inthe traditional christian view of immortality hinges on some form of dualism -- the notion that your consciousness is not dependent on the brain and can survive the dissolution of the body.
modern science has not found any evidence for this whatsoever.
it seems rather likely that our consciousness and mental abilities are bound to our brains and their neuronal firings.

How does the mind "see" color?
The brain , as observed, has an electro-chemical codes . The mind not only observes the codes it interprets them. The codes are "read" by the mind.
CONCLUSION!
The mind must have a "code dictionary". The nature of that dictionary is that it exists independent of the codes. Why so? Because codes do not "create" ideas they symbolize them. Therefore the idea comes first then the code for the idea . Implicit in this is the possibility of a world of "ideas". A world without "codes". Without physical brains.
This can best be understood by asking yourself...Where does "color" come from ? What is say , "red".

Elders visits 2004 ???
by Siddhashunyata inlast year ,at about this time, the board was discussing how elders would be coming around to ask "inactive ones" if they "considered themselves to be one of jehovah's witnesses ( entrapment question).
in light of the current wt studies on apostasy and the faithful and discreet slave, does anyone know if that program is set to operate again in 2004?
last year i had my visit in march.

Nathan, by no means am I an apologist for Blavatsky or Annie Besant but it woiuld be worth while to do a search on these two and consider them in light of the times they were living. Understanding life is no easy thing. Some of their ideas were ahead of their time and they suffered dearly for them. No offense intended.

What is more important to understand...
by Siddhashunyata inmoral principles, doctrine , prophecy , ourselves ?

SaintSaten, yes. That's why personal relationships (Marriage etc) are so difficult to maintain over time. Instead of "seeing" the other person "new" we see a "conditioned image" and that's the one we address and respond to. Conversely so do they.

Disillusionment and Intellectual fertility -- Thank you WTBS
by Siddhashunyata inthank you wtbts .

Thank you WTBTS . , you have been the womb for the developing embryo of our intellect. You see, we had to go beyond you , beyond your chicanery. We had to be disillusioned while in a state of sincere belief. While many of us have suffered because we really were believers, in the end, we have grown. We are no longer vulnerable to "belief systems". We know the importance of "self reliance" and questioning. This forum is growing richer and richer . It is intellectually fertile. It is your loss because you construed yourself as the fountainhead of "Knowledge" and removed yourself from the voice of those who were serving you. Now you listen in , not as a friend , but as a jealous adversary, intolerant of rivalry. People are talking and they don't need you. You could have made provision for them but you were dishonest and you insisted on your "Appointment" as God's mouthpiece. You really do need His help now because you are up against a host of insurgents and they are not ignorant. This forum is a real danger to you.

Early Christian apocalypses
by Leolaia inearly christian apocalyses
i thought it would be a good idea to put together into a single thread all the early 1st.

The general consensus on the board is that these writings were a natural outcome of the socio/cultural/technological atmosphere of the times ( 1st, 2nd, century). I don't want to sidetrack the thread but it may help to ask the question : what types of writings are going on today that are the equivalent of the apocalyptic writings in that they provide an answer ( and perhaps hope) to the " things" of this present time period? ( Perhaps another thread could go into this if the idea is to distracting .)
