Need Help! About Blood Transfusion
by Marvin Shilmer innot too long ago i read a news story on this forum about deaths due to medical errors in australian hospitals.
i think it had something to do with statistics generated by some minister in a department of health in australia.
part of the article cited numbers of deaths (or errors) due to blood transfusions and a conclusion that transfusions were given more often then medically necessary.

Yes, if it's the same one, it's Feb. 22, in the Watching the World section, under the heading Blood Transfusion Dangers.
It says: "about 18,000 (Australians) a year died as a result of complications they developed directly as a result of the medical treatment they received."
This doesn't say from 'blood transfusions' although this is implied by the direction of the article. This appears to be misleading.

SAVE ROE NOW!!!
by Valentine indear friends of reproductive freedom,.
george w bush and his right-wings friends are quietly pursuing their domestic agenda while the nations attention is focused on international terrorism.. bush's attacks on women's reproductive freedom continue.. examples;.
1. on his first day in the oval office, bush re-instated the global gag rule, which takes family planning funds from organizations that even mention the option of abortion to their patients, risking womens lives overseas.. 2. bush has promised to re-visit the food and drug administration's approval of ru-486.and anti-abortion forces in congress have already introduced a bill to limit it's availability.. 3. with the expected retirement of 3 supreme court justices ,including sandra day o'connor, who is often the critical swing vote on abortion rights issue, bush has made it clear that he will nominate the most adamant opponents of abortion and civil rights.. the bush administration is committed to strategies that limit life saving stem cell research, criminalize abortion providers, reduce the availability of birth control and deny funding of health reproduction education in the schools.. what better way to take on the christian coalition and ultra-right leaders and movements, than to use your voice to speak up now!!.

I don't presume to put myself in the position that I can determine the fate of other people's children, no matter what the circumstances.
You aren't using the logic I was using at all.If you care so much about everybody else's unborn children, can I assume that you extend that same level of care to their children once they're born? Do you make sure they have enough to eat? Do you provide clothing and shelter for them? Do you make sure they aren't abused?
Why take such a passionate and unrelenting stance about them before they're born, but not carry it to it's natural conclusion and continue butting in for their benefit after they're born?

You antichoice people crack me up. You equate abortion with shooting someone on the street, yet when you see 'born' people living in the street with their children, you act like it's no business of yours.
You say that there is the option of adoption. Are you willing to adopt an unwanted baby? I doubt if you would adopt a healthy baby, let alone a baby born addicted to heroin or crack or with AIDS. Are you willing to accept responsibility for the quality of life of children whose parents can't afford to feed and clothe them? NO! You want to cut funding that helps low income people.
You want to be the ones who make the decision for 'life' and then cut yourselves off from responsibility of that 'life' once it is indeed 'life'.
If you force a woman to have her baby and it starves to death after it's born, are you guilty for that child starving?
If you force a woman to have a baby that she doesn't love, and she later mistreats and neglects it, are you guilty when that person either dies from mistreatment or ends up in prison?
If you force a woman to have a baby that grows up to be another Hitler, are you guilty of bringing evil into the world?
You want to have your cake and eat it too. If you are doing the 'right thing' by preventing abortions, then you should do the 'right thing' and take responsibility for the outcome.

How on earth can you possibly think that you know what is best for every woman and unborn child in this country? You think that your opinion, which you say isn't based on anything other than your own perception, should be the rule? What makes you think that your opinion is so right that it should be forced upon the majority of people who don't agree with you?
I don't like the thought of abortion either, but I certainly don't think that I have the right tell other people how they should view their own unborn offspring. I would certainly never try to create legislation to force them to do it. Are you willing to accept responsibility for the unwanted children that will result?

I personally feel the concept of abortion to be distasteful and sad, but I think that women should have the right to choose to have one.
The religious right (GW and Co.) are absolutely wrong to think that it's their God given right to force others to live according to their view of morality. Most of these people aren't willing to take responsibility for the lives of the children that they want to force into the world. In fact, these fanatics are usually the same people who complain the loudest about the pittance given to welfare recipients. They conveniently overlook the fact that the majority of recipients are children.
Do these people accept blood guilt if an unwanted child is later mistreated and killed by his own mother? No, they do not. They think they can butt into someone else's business about such a personal matter, but then wash their hands of it when it doesn't turn out well.
JW's point to Exodus 21:22-24 as proof that God views an unborn child as 'a person'. The revised standard version (and some others) seems to say the opposite:
Exodus 21
22 "When men strive together, and hurt a woman with child, so that there is a miscarriage, and yet no harm follows, the one who hurt her shall be fined, according as the woman's husband shall lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
23 If any harm follows, then you shall give life for life,
24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
25 burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.I've looked at many translations, and they usually say 'her fruit departs from her' instead of miscarriage, but even those words would obviously apply to a miscarriage in the early months of pregnancy. In any event, this scripture is referring to what happens to the woman who is 'hurt' during this struggle. In is only her death and not the death of the unborn child that calls for the payment of 'life'.
It's clear that, according to the Law that Christians believe was given to men by God, the value of unborn children is determined by the parents (father) and not by society.
